It’s been a slow Summer, and while August is still technically a part of the season, a lot of intriguing games will be available this month. From a ton of retro classics to a handful of remakes to several wholly original titles, there’s going to be a lot to play in August. And you can find out exactly what the Warp Zoned staff is most interested in after the break.

After having my face buried in my phone all Summer, it’s nice to finally have a large batch of console games to look forward to. But the game I’m most interested in, Rare Replay is actually a collection of games I first started playing nearly 30 years ago. Rare ruled the gaming landscape in the Nintendo 64 era, but its history dates back to the 80s and includes some of the best games on the NES. Just having the chance to play Battletoads again has me excited, but revisiting others like R.C. Pro Am, Jet Force Gemini, and Conker’s Bad Fur Day will keep me busy for a long time. But hopefully I still have time to try out some of August’s other big names…
Gauntlet: Slayer Edition makes the jump to the PS4 this month and when I wasn’t playing a Rare game on my N64, I had Gauntlet Legends locked in to the cartridge slot. So a modern day reboot has me counting my quarters. I’m also interested to see how Ubisoft translates Zombi for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game seems so linked to the Wii U in my mind that I don’t know if I can accept it on another platform. And as a horror fan, Sony’s Until Dawn is a game I’ve been waiting for for a long time. Let’s hope it can capture the Friday the 13th vibe on a console.
Finally, I need a baseball game on my Xbox One and I hope Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings hits a grand slam.

The only thing I’m looking forward to in August is the Beatbuddy launch on the Wii U (it’s also going to be available for the Xbox One)! I’m very excited to play that wonderful little game on my GamePad, now that I’ve joined the ranks and gotten one. Other than that, it’s just going to be slogging through the same games I’m already working on, unless I can find a way to go to PAX Prime! Then my expected games of August will be a much different list. We’ll have to see!

I don’t really look forward to mobile games that much, but the Android release of Fallout Shelter will keep me going until Fallout 4 is unleashed upon the world (thus forcing me to buy a PlayStation 4). If I had a PS4 just now, I would have probably already pre-ordered Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture. It looks like such an exciting, narrative-driven game that pushes players away from massive sandbox worlds and into something more refined.
And if I hadn’t spent so much time on the PS3 version, I would be picking up Dishonored: Definitive Edition as well. Hell, I just might anyway!

Ah yes, August. The trickle of snow before an avalanche of games hits us for almost five straight months. And this month there are two titles that look oh-so-enticing.
The game I’m most looking forward to this month is Until Dawn. I love a good slasher film… whether it’s Friday the 13th or Halloween or Scream, nothing is better than watching a bunch of clueless, morally-corrupt teenagers get hunted down by a masked killer. And Until Dawn looks like it’ll scratch me right where I itch. The other game I’m interested in, and one I’m a little reticent about, is Gauntlet: Slayer Edition. As an old-school arcade fan, I love the games in the Gauntlet franchise. But I am unsure of this new one. Yes, it already made its PC debut last year, but I am really hoping it’s going to be a fun game on the PS4, as playing it online with friends is the next logical step in the Gauntlet series. Time will tell, though.
