Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will also be released for the PC
Rod Fergusson, the Studio Head at The Coalition, dropped by the first-ever PC Gaming Show on Tuesday to announce that the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is also in development for the PC. According to Fergusson, PC gamers can look forward to playing the remastered version of Gears at 4K resolution with an unlimited refresh rate. The game will also include DirectX 12 support for a smoother experience. Finally, mouse and keyboard control will be implemented alongside the standard allotment of Xbox controllers (Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the brand new Xbox One Elite).
Gears of War was originally released for the PC back in 2007, however, all three sequels remained exclusive to the Xbox 360. But when asked if PC gamers should gear up for future Gears of War releases on the platform, Fergusson sounded hopeful: “Nothing to announce yet. That’s something I’ll be happy to talk about at a later time.”
The remastered shooter will be available for the Xbox One on August 25, but a release date for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on the PC has yet to be confirmed.
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is coming August 25… but a public beta is available now
Finally pulling back the curtain on the worst-kept secret in gaming, Microsoft has announced that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will be released for the Xbox One on August 25.
To make this the biggest version of Gears of War ever available, Microsoft and The Coalition will add five campaign chapters to the Ultimate Edition that were previously only available on the PC version. An extensive visual upgrade, running at 1080p, will also make the game look better than ever before.
Fans who can’t wait to dive back in to Gears of War won’t have to wait long, Microsoft also announced that a public multiplayer beta test is now available to download through the Xbox Games Store. As long as you’ve got an Xbox Live Gold subscription, you’re good to go.
“What’s next for Gears of War” will debut at E3 2015 as Black Tusk Studios changes its name to The Coalition
Black Tusk Studios is no more. From this day forward, the studio will be known as The Coalition (an allusion to the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) from Gears of War lore). The name change is designed to better convey The Coalition’s dedication to the Gears of War franchise, much like the public links the Halo series with 343 Industries and Turn 10 with the Forza franchise. The Studio Head of The Coalition, Rod Fergusson, further explained the reasons behind the name change in the video above. He also introduced the developer’s new logo.
And speaking of the Gears of War franchise, over on the Xbox Wire, Microsoft has promised that “what’s next for Gears of War” will be revealed on Monday, June 15 during their E3 2015 “Xbox Daily” show at 7:00 PM (Eastern Time). We don’t know if they’ll be announcing the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition or Gears of War 4, but fans of the franchise are surely excited all the same.
The Coalition is actually the second name change for the former “AAAA” developer. Before it took on the Black Tusk moniker in 2012, the studio was known as Microsoft Vancouver. They’ve yet to release a game under any name, but it’s only a matter of time now.
