After teasing the title last month, Sony is ready to officially announce LittleBigPlanet Karting. The PS3-exclusive is being developed by United Front Games (the same team behind Sony’s other kart-racing franchise, ModNation Racers) for a 2012 release.
Even though it’s not a traditional LittleBigPlanet game, LittleBigPlanet Karting will follow the same “Play, Create, Share” philosophy as its platforming brethren. Players will be able to customize their karting with “the ability to make their own game rules, weapons, and tracks.” Naturally, all of these personalized play styles will also be able to be shared over the PlayStation Network.
While it’s easy to view the trailer above and scoff, “Mario Kart ripoff,” LittleBigPlanet Karting will go its own way with a single-player mode that includes “objective-based missions, boss battles, and mini-games.” But gamers will also be able to go for a ride in multiplayer racing and battle modes using splitscreen or online play.
And LittleBigPlanet Karting will have one other thing that Mario Kart doesn’t… sidescrolling stages! Oh yeah! Chicka chick ah!
