Two next-generation console launches have come and gone. Thanksgiving has come and gone. Black Friday has come and gone. All the games that will be released in 2013 are now available… not so fast! There’s still a handful of impressive titles that will be released between now and January 1 and the staff of Warp Zoned is here to tell you all about them.

December is always a slow month for new game releases and this year is no exception (I get the feeling I write this exact sentence every year). But the promise of Peggle 2 as a timed exclusive might push me to obtain an Xbox One. That’s right, helping cartoony spirit animals fling a metal ball at multi-colored pegs is a system seller. Of course, my love for twin-stick shooters means I also have my eye on Halo: Spartan Assault, which will be available this month for the Xbox One and (if I don’t upgrade) the Xbox 360.
But my big wants this month are two games that are only tentatively scheduled to be released in the next four weeks. Metanet’s N++ brings their ultra-hard platforming series to the PS4, and it might push me towards Sony’s system when it’s released. A simple puzzler and a minimalistic platformer – these are the next-gen games that most interest me. So it makes total sense that I hope Namco Bandai gets Pac-Man Museum out by the end of the year. A downloadable collection of all things Pac and the first time we in America will get to play Pac-Man Battle Royale? Sign me up.

I’m not going to lie to you guys – I bought a ton of cheap games on sale in November, and I plan to do nothing but play them all month. Well, that’s not true – I am also really excited about The Walking Dead: Season 2. This season of the show has been super intense, and I finally picked up the first novel, so this is really great timing for the game to come out! Other than that, I’ll be trying my hand at games I already purchased this year on just about every system I own. I can’t wait!

I can’t tell you how excited I am for Season 2 of The Walking Dead. Having recently played through first season in less than a week (which as a working dad is unprecedented), I can say without any reservation that this will be an amazing game. I can’t wait to see what’s going on with Clementine, and how my decisions in the first game will affect this one. Can’t wait!
Other than that, the only real game I’m interested in is the upcoming Nintendo eShop title 3D Streets of Rage. One of my favorite games on the Sega Genesis is portable, in 3D, and only $5.99? Yes, please!
Happy Holidays everyone!

Is that really all the games being released before Christmas? It seems a poor list, although I do share Mike and Nicole’s enthusiasm for The Walking Dead: Season 2, especially after the bloody mid-season finale of the fourth season of the TV show. I guess the anti-climax of the next-generation games has come and gone, leaving a vacuum in December. In the UK we have a slightly different schedule. Scribblenauts Unlimited is touching down for the Wii U in December, and given how poor the console is doing it may be quickly reduced.
Or maybe we need this lull to get through the games we have amassed over the course of the year.
