gamesofmarch2014-header

There are so many amazing games coming out in March that our heads are ready to explode! Dark Souls II, InFamous: Second Son, Shovel Knight, South Park: The Stick of Truth, TitanFall, TowerFall Ascension… the insane list goes on and on. I hope you’ve got time, money, and plenty of food in the house, because if you’re like us, you’re not going to leave the house much these next four weeks.

Read on to see what’s going to keep us glued to our gaming devices in March!

I first got a chance to play Shovel Knight almost exactly a year ago at PAX East 2013, and ever since the game has been at the top of my “must own” list. And I’ll finally get my chance at the end of this month. If the Mega Man/DuckTales-style platformer is as good as I want it to be, hopefully Yacht Club Games will make an appearance at PAX East 2014 to take a victory lap.

The rest of this month’s new releases intrigue me in that, “This is clearly a good game” kind of way, but I’m not sure I want to own any of them. Partially because the two biggest, TitanFall and InFamous: Second Son, will be released for next-generation systems that I don’t own yet. And Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is out because I could never get into the Metal Gear series. Maybe someday.

That said, Dark Souls II has peaked my interest. I’ve never played Demon’s Souls or the first Dark Souls, but the relentlessly difficult action-RPG definitely appeals to the “retro gaming” center of my brain. Maybe after Shovel Knight.

There are so many games to be excited about this month that my head might explode. I’m psyched to play TitanFall, as well as TowerFall Ascension, which come out the same day. Even though I’ve beaten everything there is to beat in it, I’m still excited to play Fez on my Sony devices. And of course, I’m thrilled about the release of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, which looks incredible.

Oh, and after wrapping up InFamous 2 in January, I’m more excited than ever for InFamous: Second Son on the PlayStation 4.

I have never played the original Dark Souls, but I am tempted to pick it up on the cheap so I can pick up Dark Souls II. Likewise, I am sorely tempted to finally purchase a PlayStation 4 for InFamous: Second Son. I have just finished playing the first two, and they are fantastic!

Of course, the hype-wagon belongs to TitanFall this month. I have no inclination to pick up an Xbox One for a multiplayer-only game, but I am curious to play it to see if it lives up to the lofty expectations the media have embellished it with, despite Resolutiongate.

I’m going to take this opportunity to apologize to my family, as I will barely see you this month. If you need me, I’ll be in the basement. Just put some pork chops in a hamster ball and throw it down the stairs.

My must-have title this month is South Park: the Stick of Truth. The care and love that Trey and Matt put into this game, coupled with the production values to make it look like an actual episode, makes this a day-one purchase. I can’t wait. I’m also looking forward to InFamous: Second Son, as the first two were such great games on the PS3. Episode 2 of The Walking Dead Season 2 is also on my priority list – I need to make sure poor Clem is safe!

Finally, I truly am excited for Shovel Knight. It’s basically a mix of Metroid, Mega Man, and DuckTales – three of my favorite classics. The soundtrack is going to be beautiful; the gameplay is going to be top-notch. It’s coming for the 3DS and Wii U, people – I highly suggest checking it out.
