The Games of June 2014

gamesofjune2014-header

It doesn’t seem like there’s much getting us excited this June. Well, of course, we’re all pretty excited about E3, but other than that, we’ll likely be tackling our backlogs! Read on to find out what games have sparked the interest of the Warp Zoned staff this month.

It’s been common practice for the game publishers to take the Summer off for years now. But the people who program the yearly release calendar for each publisher absolutely run screaming from the weeks surrounding the E3 Expo. This June is no exception as you can practically see the calendar pages turning into tumbleweeds. But I am intrigued by Ubisoft’s Valiant Hearts: The Great War. The puzzle platformer takes place during World War I and features an interesting storyline and a unique art style. Definitely one to watch when you finally take your eyes off of E3.

In June, the only game I’m really looking forward to is the crazy hard 1001 Spikes, which looks awesome! Other than that, I’m super stoked about E3. Some friends and I are going to check out the Sony Press Conference in a movie theater, which should be amazing! I’m really looking forward to it. Here’s hoping they announce that The Last Guardian will be coming out this year, or something equally incredible.

After a great May, June seems to be a bit of a ‘meh’ month. The only game really stirring my interest is Murdered: Soul Suspect, especially after all the hype from E3 last year. Hopefully it can live up to it. I know it will probably be a pile of junk, but I enjoy saying Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark aloud in the voice of the narrator from Monty Python’s Holy Grail. Try it… it’s fun.

“Dark Spark!”

I am interested in 1001 Spikes because it blends my love of 2D games with my love of challenging platformers, but the more I read about it, the more uncertain I get. I like a good challenge and all, but I can’t stand a game that’s brutally difficult just for the sake of being brutally difficult. Here’s hoping for the best, though. I’m also glad that War Thunder is finally coming stateside. I love me some good dogfighting. I also love me some free games. So a free game about dogfighting? I’m on board.
