Gravity Rush accelerates into stores on June 12
Ever wish you could walk on walls, fly through the air, and basically control gravity while saving the planet from some monsters? Well your wish has been granted via the Playstation Vita with Gravity Rush, out June 12. Newton would scoff at how easily you’ll be able to bend his laws of physics but appreciate the liberal use of apples in the trailer.
Gravity storms have been tearing apart the world and it is up to a strange girl named Kat, with the inexplicable power to manipulate gravity, to save the population from the requisite hoard of monsters. The distinct, cell-shaded art style looks beautiful and the open world level design is sure to keep you engrossed in the action. Using all the features the Vita has to offer, you can hurl Kat in any direction with a flick of your finger or a tap on either of the screens. Just hold on tight, you don’t want to accidentally flick your shiny new console out the window where it’ll achieve terminal velocity.
You can pick up Gravity Rush this summer on the PSN or as a game card in brick and mortar retailers.
Gotham City Impostors prepares for a February 7-8 release
Batman has taken a holiday and it’s up to the regular citizens of Gotham to protect the city from a gang of The Joker’s minions. Thus is born Gotham City Impostors, a Team Fortress 2-like shooter available for download through PC download services and the PSN on February 7 and through the XBLA on February 8 for $14.99.
Why has Bats gone away? Beats me, but I do know that I’m ready to put the hurtin’ on some Jokerz.
Hybrid trailer features frenetic, zero-gravity shooting
What do you get when you take the aesthetics of Portal, mash it up with Vanquish‘s frenetic cover-based shooting, in zero gravity, and online gameplay for XBLA? You end up with a downloadable game called Hybrid. Quite a fitting name really.
After watching this trailer, Valve’s Source Engine and the development team behind Scribblenauts (5th Cell) could be a winning combo. What do you think? We’ll all find out together this Summer.
The Skyrim Creation Kit gives players even more to explore
So you’ve poured hundreds of hours into the land of Skyrim. You’ve fought civil wars, shouted dragons out of the sky, and accidentally lit a few villages on fire (you say accidentally, but your evil cackling has made me question that). You’ve fulfilled your destiny as the Dragonborn and smote Alduin on the mountainside.
What now?
Just when you thought the land of Skyrim had enough to do, Bethesda plans to roll out the Skyrim Workshop and Creation Kit “soon.” Like the Elder Scrolls Construction Set before it, the Creation Kit puts the software used to develop the game right into your eager little hands. Didn’t think the Throat of the World was tall enough? Add a few hundred feet. Wish there was a cabin in the woods with NPC’s spouting lines from Evil Dead? Do it. The world of Skyrim is a sandbox, and you are now Akatosh.
Sadly, all the wonderful mods that people are sure to make will only be available on the PC version of the game. But, maybe if we are nice, Bethesda will collect the best ones and provide them as delicious DLC for all the good console Dragonborn.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus to launch with PS Vita on February 22
All you Ninja Gaiden fans can toss your shuriken into the air with jubilation because the release of Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus for the the Playstation Vita has been moved up to February 22 (making it a Vita “launch day” title instead of a “launch window” one). Just remember to dodge the inevitable hail of steel afterwards.
The Ninja Gaiden series is not known for coddling its players. In fact, it’s known for its controller-snapping difficulty. Thankfully, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus introduces “Hero Mode,” which dials back the level of thumb-crushing frustration so new players can slash their way through the story.
The game will also use quite a bit of the Vita’s new hardware features. It’ll take full advantage of the rear touchpad to power up Ryu Hayabusa’s moves and use the embedded gyro sensor to allow you to aim the bow with a tilt of the Vita. BE WARNED, you do not sling the Vita in order to activate the shuriken throw. Although, a Vita to the face could probably knock down the heftiest of your real world foes.
Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition power slides into your PS3 in two weeks
Did anyone seriously think that Gran Turismo 5 was lacking for content? With 1000 cars and 70 tracks, it already took 20 minutes just to figure out how much camber to dial in on the wheels and what sort of weather you wanted on the Top Gear Test Track. But, Polyphony Digital decided that you needed even more glorious cars, racetracks, and features.
On January 17, say hello to Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition. It’s for all of you petrol-heads that thought that Gran Turismo 5 didn’t have a long enough install time. Featuring the original game and all the online updates through Spec 2.0 right on the disc, it would be best pop it in before you go out Friday night to party like a race car driver. It might be ready by Sunday morning.
As a little bit of anti-freeze icing on your gasoline-flavored digital cake, included is a voucher for $20 worth of downloadable content including the Racing Car Pack, Car Pack 2, Course Pack, Racing Gear Pack, and Paint Pack..
All that for $39.99? That’s about $999,960 less than it would cost to actually have a Bugatti Veyron in your garage.
