Daily Scoop: May 3, 2017 – New PS Plus games for May + Star Wars Sale at Steam and Humble
Because I’m still here and not Nicole, who we have not heard from in a few days, I will be taking some reader mail today. This one is from Ethel: “Dear Scoop Sub, why are you so terrible? Love, Ethel.”
That’s a fair question. But one I have no answer for right now. So if that is your question, readers, don’t bother writing in — we already know I’m just the worst. Sales, ho!
The PlayStation Plus games for May are now available, so check out some of these free titles this month: Tales from the Borderlands (PS4), Abzu (PS4), Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants (PS3), Blood Knights (PS3), Laser Disco Defenders (PS4 + PS Vita Cross-Buy), and Type Rider (PS4 + PS Vita Cross-Buy). There’s sure to be something in that mix to excite some folks!
Ending Friday, the Midweek Madness Sale at Steam this week includes Battlefleet Gothic – Armada for $15.99, with 30% off its DLCs, and an Age of Wonders Franchise Sale with four games at 75% off each, and expansions up to 40% off each.
Also at Steam, they’ve got some good Daily Deals going, such as Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, and the Darksiders II soundtrack for 80% off each. Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is also on sale for 40% off. Plus, there’s even a few more Star Wars games from 60-75% off, so check those out, too! That’s a lot of warring stars! It’s almost as if it were Star Wars Day tomorrow or something.
And speaking of Star Wars, the Humble Store is having their own Star Wars Sale, with many games from 50-77% off, ending May 8th, many of the titles being the same as at Steam. They appear to be about the same prices, too, but you may want to check to see if a particular game is actually cheaper at one or the other.
Elsewhere in the Humble Store as part of their Sports Week Sale, they have NBA 2K17 and WWE 2K17 for 40% off each, as well as the NBA 2K17: Legend Edition, and the NBA 2K17: Legend Edition Gold for 45% and 50% off respectively.

Daily Scoop: May 2, 2017 – Capcom Sale at Xbox Store and Golden Week Sale at PS Store
So hello there in video game land! How is everyone on this chilly day? What? You mean it’s not 50 degrees everywhere? Curse you New York springtime, for you are full of contradictions and lies! Speaking of weather, no news from Nicole today, however, I did catch a strange report on the Weather Channel that said it was raining blood in parts of the Amazon, with streams and rivers quickly turning to blood. Seems unusual, but maybe that’s just the southern hemisphere’s version of an ambivalent northern spring. Who can say? And now, the sales.
Some great deals to be had out there today! At Best Buy there are two PS4 bundles that might interest some of you. The first one bundles the console with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and a DualShock wireless controller for $259.99. The second one combines the console with the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End – Limited Edition and a matching DualShock wireless controller for $309.99. Both offers include free shipping and are good for today only.
This week in the Xbox Games Store, there’s a Capcom Sale with Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, and a Dead Rising Triple Bundle pack for 40-50% off of regular retail. A small Star Wars Sale inlcudes Star Wars: Battlefront – Ultimate Edition for 50% off, along with a few others.
Microsoft also has Deals With Gold discounts this week for Xbox Live Gold members on Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime with 67% off and The Witness at 50% off. This sale ends on May 9th.

Daily Scoop: May 1, 2017 – New Games With Gold and a few nice Weeklong Deals at Steam
New week, y’all. But sorry, still same me subbing in for Nicole. Maybe the great game deals and shirts make up for it? No? Well, that’s a little surprising. Anyhow, haven’t heard from Nicole since her postcard from last Friday, but we trust her mysterious adventure is going well and that the jungle hasn’t come alive and tried to eat her… yet. Let’s get down to the sales!
On the Humble Bundle front today, just a quick reminder that there is only one day left for the “Wild Frontier Bundle,” so don’t miss out! And in the Humble Store, they’ve got a special today on the Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition for $12.49.
May’s newest free games for Games With Gold on the Xbox Games Store are sure to please. Available for the duration of May to Xbox One Gold members is Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams – Director’s Cut, and from May 16 – June 15, members can download Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris for free as well. For the Xbox 360, beginning today and ending May 15th is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. Daily Scoop: April 28, 2017 – Last chance for April’s Games With Gold and PS Plus freebies
Good news, everyone! We made it — it’s Friday! And, yes, still here sitting in for Nicole. If you’ve been following the Scoop this past week, you know she is on location in the Amazon conducting covert research for persons unknown. We were all excited for her for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend time in the rainforest, but today I received an eerie postcard from her: “The forest is alive. In ways man cannot fathom. The leaves see all. Send Pocky.” I wonder what that’s about. Anyway, sales and shirts!
The Humble Store has some good deals this weekend with The Elder Scrolls Online: Imperial Edition 67% off, and the Gold Edition for 50% off. And if you’re a fan of zombie plagues, they’ve got you covered with Resident Evil for 50% off, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard for 25% off, Resident Evil 4 for 65% off, Resident Evil 6: Complete Pack 79% off, Arizona Sunshine 20% off, and Plague Inc: Evolved for 50% off. Wow, that is a lot of frugal zombie plague-ing!
Reminder that it’s your last chance to get Ryse: Son of Rome (Xbox One) and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (Xbox 360) as Games With Gold freebies in the Xbox Games Store because those deals end April 30th.
In the PlayStation Store, it’s also your last chance to snag these PlayStation Plus free games: Drawn To Death (PS4), Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (PS4), Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom (PS3), Alien Rage: Extended Edition (PS3), 10 Second Ninja (PS4 + Vita Cross-Buy), and Curses ‘n Chaos (PS4 + Vita Cross-Buy). These go bye-bye on May 2nd, so get on it, people!
Okay, shirts! There are a few today, so let’s get started. (more…)
Daily Scoop: April 26, 2017 – Humble Fantasy Sale and Steam turns on the Bat Signal
So, I’m still here, and still not Nicole. :( We have had some communique from her, but are still unclear as to her exact whereabouts. But we believe she has most certainly entered the forest by now. We wish her luck during the coming days and weeks and hope her top secret research assignment from an unknown entity has very fruitful results. Onto the sales, kids!
The Humble Store is doing a Fantasy Week sale with up to 80% off a variety of games. They’ve got Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor – Game of the Year Edition for $9.99, Child of Light for $7.49, and Pillars of Eternity (and its expansions) ranging from 40-60% off.
They’ve got a few great weekly deals going on at the Xbox Games Store. For the Xbox One, there is the awesome Axiom Verge for 50% off, and various Madden NFL 17 editions from 50-67% off, as well as Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Ultimate Alliance 2 each for 50% off.
At Steam, they’ve got serious Batman fever with some crazy Midweek Madness sales on Batman: Arkham Knight and its Season Pass for $7.99 each, as well as Batman: Arkham Origins, Arkham Asylym – Game of the Year Edition, and Arkham City – Game of the Year Edition for $4.99 each. As if that’s not enough Batman, they’ve also got Lego Batman and Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes for $4.99 each, and Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham for $7.49. All these deals end April 28th!
And now shirts, of which there are a bunch today! (more…)
Daily Scoop: April 25, 2017 – Wild Frontier Bundle is now available at Humble Bundle
Hello! I’m still here sitting in for Nicole; thus, you have my condolences. All we know of her whereabouts right now is that she is in South America en route to the Amazon rainforest, or has possibly already reached its moist perimeter, ready to begin her research and correspondence of the aforementioned (in yesterday’s Scoop) secret assignment. This assignment is so secret, we are not even sure who or what assigned it. Anyway, I was not told that this was going to be everyday. I guess that’s what “daily” means, but I thought maybe it was a metaphor? Oh geez, I’m much too lazy for this. Now, the sales!
Since I’m new to this and didn’t do the Humble Bundle yesterday, I guess I should do it today? Maybe? Can we edit out my lack of confidence later? Good. So, the current Bundle of Humbleness (the Wild Frontier Bundle) includes several interesting-looking titles, and if you slap $13+ down on the imaginary countertop, you can also imaginarily walk away with Gods Will Be Watching, Ice Lakes, Frontiers, Hard West, Renowned Explorers: International Society, Spintires, and (the one I’m vaguely excited about) Slime Rancher! How does one even ranch slime? There is so much I, and perhaps we as a society, have to learn about slime, but I can’t wait to find out!
And a quick reminder that Humble’s Intergalactic Bundle ends in a few hours, and includes these games: Space Hulk Ascension, Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity, Galactic Civilizations 2, Planetary Annihilation: Titans, Rebel Galaxy, Galactic Civilizations 3, and Offworld Trading Company. Hurry up if you want these!
Elsewhere at the PlayStation Store, there is a weekly special on Tom Clancy games including Ghost Recon: Wildlands, The Division, Rainbow Six: Siege, and several others for the PS4 and PS3. It’s definitely worth a look!
Over at Steam, there are two particular games I wanted to mention, and they are Superhot on sale for $16.74 and Flinthook for $13.49.
So grab yourself some games! Good night! Oh, do you want shirts, too? Okay… (more…)
Daily Scoop: April 24, 2017 – Nicole is on top secret assignment
Hi, Scoopers! I’m not Nicole. Sorry about that. Nicole is on top secret assignment in the Amazon, or possibly she’s just using Amazon.com, and will be away for a bit. But, fear! I am here! Yes, I did mean that rather than “never fear,” because she has set really high standards for the Scoop (plus she scares me a little) and I do not want those angry Hogwarts-esque Howlers delivered by toucan when I screw this up! Now, to the sales!
There are several eye-gougingly great sales (as in, if you were trying to buy these games in a store, the deals are so good that you’d all be trying to gouge other shoppers’ eyes out to get them? Okay, I need to work on my adjectives, noted). Amazon has a good sale today on Lego Dimensions and its expansions, including 25% off the Starter Pack and 25-50% off Level Packs including Portal 2, Doctor Who, Sonic the Hedgehog, Back to the Future, and Scooby Doo.
Steam has Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 for 25% off until noon (Eastern Time), as well as an all-day deal on The Flame in the Flood for $7.49.
GOG is doing Full Throttle Remastered for $11.99. Also at GOG, Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell is $3.74, plus you can get the Full Series Bundle (which also includes the Devil’s Workshop Pack add-on, Saints Row 2, Saints Row: The Third, and Saints Row IV) for only $24.45. Not too shabby!
Now for shirts! (more…)
Conan’s latest Clueless Gamer features Overwatch, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey… and butts
Conan O’Brien’s latest “Clueless Gamer” segment featured Blizzard’s Overwatch, where he was joined by two special guests from Game of Thrones, Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey. And a very special Iron Throne. “Clueless Gamer” almost inspires me to want to stream games because it’s so entertaining to watch funny people be bad at them. And that’s totally me: funny and bad at things. Maybe I shouldn’t limit myself to streaming video games but just record myself trying to do anything at all– until the final episode where I visit a botanical garden and, if cartoons have taught me anything, get eaten by a giant venus flytrap.
As explained by Conan, the objective of Overwatch is to “just shoot each other,” and shoot each other they do, with Peter Dinklage either being great at video games or maybe harboring some blood vendetta against the other two (or maybe there’s some residual anger from that Destiny thing). Characters briefly seen or mentioned in the segment include Junkrat, Zenyatta, Hanzo, D.Va, Lucio, as well as some extensive Widowmaker. And I’m sure you can imagine why: Butts, Butts, Butts. So many shiny orbs of buttocks, like glorious reflective garden gazing balls. What was I talking about?
Overwatch was released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One today.
