Resident Evil Revelations Review: Revel in This Iteration
Set between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil Revelations is a portable thrill-ride that combines a lot of elements from the series. This the second Resident Evil game to hit the 3DS and is a more robust experience than Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. Players take control of Jill Valentine and a host of other characters to explore a derelict cruise shp in search of the missing Chris Redfield and his partner. Is the adventure worth the price of admission? Or will it make players want to abandon ship? (more…)
Mass Effect 3 Hands-On Preview: Big Damn Heroes
Commander Shepard is coming back to finish the fight! Wait, that’s from another game. Regardless, s/he is returning in the final installment of the epic Mass Effect trilogy, looking to kick Reaper butt, save Earth, and maybe get a little alien snoo-snoo on the side. To help facilitate excitement for the March 6 release, BioWare and Electronic Arts have put out a demo to get fans hungry for the third act of this space opera. Is it more unbridled, space-faring fun? Or will it make you want to punch a reporter in the face? (more…)
The Simpsons Arcade Game Review: D’oh That To Me One More Time
It has been a little more than two decades since The Simpsons Arcade Game debuted in arcades and threatened to siphon the quarters out of our pockets. Konami graced us with a fun beat ’em up starring one of television’s most beloved dysfunctional families back then and now it’s finally available to play on our consoles. Is nostalgia enough to grant the game some staying power or do we have to make it write “I will not be a sucky game” over and over on the blackboard? (more…)
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Hands-On Preview: The Elder Fable of War Effect
Imagine, if you will, that there was an action RPG that incorporated elements from games such as God of War, Fable, The Elder Scrolls series, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect. Now imagine that the development of this game involved Ken Rolston, the lead designer of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the lore of fantasy writer R.A. Salvatore, and the art of Todd McFarlane, creator of Spawn. Well, imagine no longer! Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is on its way and is ready to drown you in an amalgam of role-playing goodness. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Review: Motion-Controlling Hyrule’s Destiny
2011 was definitely the Year of Zelda. The franchise celebrated its 25th anniversary with symphonies, re-releases of previous Zelda games on handhelds, a swanky display in the Nintendo World Store in New York City, and the release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. It is the first true console Zelda game since The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and was promised to take full advantage of the Wii’s capabilities. With the addition of the Wii MotionPlus support, does Skyward Sword live up to all of the hype? Or will we wish to play the Song of Time and be whisked away to an era of better Zelda games? (more…)
Uncharted 3 to include early access to Starhawk public beta
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception has gone gold and is all set for its November 1, 2011 release date. If this news wasn’t enough to elate PlayStation fans, Sony has announced that all copies of Uncharted 3 will include early access codes for the Starhawk public beta.
Starhawk is a third-person shooter from the creators of Warhawk that takes place in a future in which “humanity’s last hope lies in the lawless frontier of space where factions battle over the universe’s most precious resource, Rift Energy.” It promises 32-player online combat on foot and in vehicles, as well as a “Build & Battle” system for more tactical options.
The beta will take place sometime in early 2012. Sony has promised that more details will be available at StarhawkTheGame.com soon.
From everything I’ve read, I’m expecting the game to be the “Firefly”/Battlefield crossover of my dreams. So if you want early access to that brand of awesomeness, pick up a copy of Uncharted 3 and get your voucher!
Fruit Ninja Kinect Review: I’m A Fruity Ninja
So let’s face it: you’ve always wanted to be a ninja. Perhaps you’ve sunken hours upon hours into watching reruns of Naruto in order to perfect the art of turning into a log. Maybe you’ve honed your skills by playing variations of the Ninja Slap Game and have dominated your weaker, less agile friends. You’ve gone and filled out applications for ninja positions, but your lack of the necessary tools and a lord in which to swear your fealty has always held you back. Fear not, would-be denizen of the shadows: Fruit Ninja Kinect is here to fill the void! (more…)
