Homefront sells some copies

Homefront has been pushing some units, enough that THQ would want to brag about it. Brian Farrell, THQ President and CEO stated, “we are delighted with first day sales for Homefront and are already fulfilling re-orders for the game from multiple retailers,” which he declared after the game sold more than 375,000 copies in its first day. The game released a few days ago on March 15 in North America and will be following up in Asia Pacific and Europe throughout the rest of the week.

THQ seems to attribute a lot of the success to dedicated servers, as Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games said, ”Homefront’s excellent multiplayer experience, combined with our commitment to dedicated servers, make this a must-have purchase for gamers.”

This Koreo-phobic military shooter is available now on the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.

Riddler shows his face in Batman: Arkham City

The Riddler served a challenging purpose in Batman: Arkham Asylum, hiding riddles all over the premises and daring Batman to try and solve them. All you heard of him, though, were tape recordings. It now looks like Riddler will be getting some face time in the sequel, Batman: Arkham City. Rocksteady released a couple screen shots portraying Edward Nigma, and you can see them after the break. Crysis 2 on PS3 and 360 analyzed side by side

Yesterday we reported on Crytek challenging anyone to find any meaningful difference between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Crysis 2. Lens of Truth has answered that call, and used the multiplayer demos for both consoles in a head to head comparison. Interpretations have varied, but in general, it does indeed seem like the PS3 version has that general “washed out” look we’ve seen with many multiplatform games, with less detailed lighting and shadows.

We’ll have to wait until the game ships next week on March 22 for PC, 360, and PS3 to see how the two versions ultimately stack up. Until then, we’ll all probably be having fun playing the demo on our respective platforms.

Bastion Hands-On Preview: Narrating Gaming’s Future

Bastion is the first title from Supergiant Games, a small studio consisting of about “six dudes”. The game is poised to be the next downloadable smash hit with its endearing art style, familiar mechanics, and novel use of narration. The team has gone from the big developer culture of EA to a more independent setting, and so far the response from fans has been sensational. We got to play the demo of Bastion and talk with Creative Director Greg Kasavin at this year’s PAX East. (more…)

A study in fanboyism: Crytek calls out IGN

I can’t say I’m surprised by IGN. After all, this is a site that has its top editors cranking out articles about how Xbox 360 exclusives in one year are better than PS3 exclusives in another year. However, this time they may have bitten off more than they can chew. IGN has boldly claimed that the 360 version of Crysis 2 is “clearly outperforming” the PS3 counterpart. CVG has disagreed after playing nearly all of the game, calling any difference “negligible.” Jeff Rubenstein of the PlayStation Blog posted today his interview where he put the matter to Executive Producer Nathan Camarillo, who responded thusly:

I’ve gone on the record saying that if you stick PS3 and 360 side by side I would challenge anyone to find any meaningful difference. I don’t see it at all.

I understand IGN probably just wanted to get a couple cheap hits by playing the console card, but they should have realized they were dealing with a developer’s integrity here. Hopefully we’ll get to the truth of these comparisons when Crysis 2 finally hits stores next week on March 22 for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.

Live action Prey 2 trailer is bothering me

OK, I understand that Prey was a highly acclaimed game, but the guy in the debut trailer for Prey 2 is seriously annoying. This live action clip is recorded by the guy who annoys everyone on the plane – he’s keeping his camcorder on even though he’s been told to turn it off (while you’ve already turned off your PSP) and he’s also trying to get footage of the prisoner you didn’t know was being transported on your flight. If you want to hear the epitome of douchiness in American culture, just skip ahead to 1:06 and listen to how he says “sweeet” and “ohhhhh, that’s bad ass…” with special emphasis on the “ohhhh” and “ssss” at the end. I seriously hope for the developers’ sake the game is not this annoying.

North American 3DS commercial shows off the launch goodies

The first official commercial for the Nintendo 3DS in North America is complete and shows some of the launch content for the handheld in action. Ryu takes on Chun Li in Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition and Nintendo shows off those cool little alternate reality cards which you can interact with as if the stuff on screen was real (trust me, it makes sense in the video). They even try to make Steel Diver look like a fun game.

Are you ready for the Nintendo 3DS this March 27?
