F1 2011 releases for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on September 23.
New James Bond game to be announced at San Diego Comic-Con
Activision confirmed a new 007 title was in the works for 2011 during a quarterly financial call last May, then registered a bunch of Goldeneye-related domains last month. Now, the revelation of the next James Bond game is mere days away.
Destructoid reports getting an invite to an Activision event at San Diego Comic-Con on July 20 where several titles will be shown off, including Prototype 2, X-Men: Destiny, Spider-Man: Edge of Time (that’s a lot of superhero games!) as well as “a new 007 title.”
Activision hasn’t done nearly as well as EA in creating games under the license, but hopefully that will change. What kind of Bond title do you want to see? Another GoldenEye? The long-rumored Raven Software third person shooter? None at all? Let us know in the comments.
Iwata admits to poor 3DS software lineup, blames health scares for lower sales
Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said back in February, “the real test of any system is whether the games and applications draw you in and keep you engaged. Through the launch window and beyond, Nintendo 3DS delivers.” In a recent shareholder Q&A, Nintendo of everywhere President Satoru Iwata admits they were wrong about the whole “through the launch window” part.
When asked about the seemingly weak library during the famed “launch window,” Iwata replied “our preparation was lacking in that regard, and we ourselves understand that is a point we have to reflect on.”
Iwata also touched on the public perception that the 3DS can somehow be dangerous to your eyes, an opinion largely spread through smear campaigns by tabloids like The Sun.
Such comments as, ‘It’s bad for your eyes’ or ‘your eyes get tired’ have wings, so much so that some people appear to have the impression that viewing a 3D image is not good for their eyes…We have carefully taken the individual differences in a child’s maturation into consideration and, because nobody appears to have the information to declare that it is definitely safe to show 3D images to young children aged six and under, we decided to proactively encourage consumers to take care when children aged six and under are using the device.
Thankfully The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D just came out, with more of that trademark Nintendo magic coming via a slew of highly anticipated first party titles for the rest of the year and beyond.
Modern Warfare 3 to include color blind option
One of the many controversies surrounding Modern Warfare 2 was that in multiplayer, teammates’ names appear over their heads in green while enemy names appear in red. If you’re color blind, this essentially means you’re screwed, doubly so if you enjoy Hardcore game modes (unless of course you like team-killing). As part of the “let’s appease everyone Infinity Ward drove away” initiative in Call of Duty: Black Ops, Treyarch included a color blind option for such players.
The trend continues, as the Sledgehammer blog confirms the feature returns in Modern Warfare 3. In response to a question from Nick, a color blind fan, Sledgehammer Vice President and COO writes, “start honing your MP skills, Nick. You won’t be able blame your red-green deficiency for all that friendly-fire come November 8th.”
Accessibility in gaming is a big new initiative; it’s good to see the bigger names in gaming getting with the program.
Capcom prepares Resident Evil 15th Anniversary Box
Celebrating fifteen years of scaring the crap out of us, Capcom is readying the Resident Evil 15th Anniversary Box. This is a truly multi-generational collection, providing PlayStation One discs for Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3: Last Escape. Resident Evil Revival Selection for PlayStation 3, the HD remake of Code: Veronica and Resident Evil 4 rounds out the game offerings in this package. Resident Evil 5 is curiously missing from the box, but it does include a spacer for you to insert your disc of the game.
The set is also filled with other goodies, such as soundtracks for Code:Veronica and RE4, as well as pins and stickers for STARS and the Umbrella Corporation. The Anniversary Box is being shipped exclusively through e-Capcom, so you have to head over there to get yours.
Oh, and it’s only for Japan as of now.
Final NASA space shuttle launch streaming now in PlayStation Home
Today is an historic and somewhat lamentable day as the final scheduled space shuttle launch for NASA, of the Atlantis, is currently taking place. PlayStation 3 owners can view this event live right now in the Space Station Theatre and Sunset Yacht Personal Space in PlayStation Home. Atlantis will go on a 12-day mission to the International Space Station.
Sony provided similar images when the space shuttle Discovery performed its final launch in February.
“We’re honored to be able to present this historic event as a social viewing experience in PlayStation Home,” said David Sterling, vice president, business development, Sony DADC. “It’s exciting to be able to deliver the ability for users to witness the final NASA Space Shuttle flight with their PlayStation family.”
As of this writing (11:36), the shuttle is now 7 minutes into the flight and Earth is getting smaller behind it. Hopefully it won’t be long until we can see these amazing events again.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary to match original score
Halo fans worrying about the handling of the upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary remake can rest a bit easier. Microsoft and 343 Industries are teaming with Pyramind Studios to recreate the original score, note for note. The Skywalker Symphony Orchestra and Chanticleer vocal ensemble will also collaborate to recreate the orchestral pieces and famed Halo monk-like singing.
“It was a huge undertaking to transcribe, orchestrate, and produce every note from the original game soundtrack files” said Paul Lipson, Pyramind Studios COO/Audio Director. “Our team approached every aspect of the music with an immense amount of skill and care, keeping the core Halo sound while updating the production to today’s highest standards.”
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary releases for Xbox 360 on November 15, 2011.
