The Big List of Nintendo NX Games: October 2016 Update
The calendar will turn over to March 31, 2017 in exactly 176 days, which is the last possible day for Nintendo to release the NX and still hit their planned March 2017 launch date for the console. And if that seems abnormally short, it should, no console in history has ever been released with such a small window of time between its public unveiling and its launch. It’s disappointing that we still don’t know anything about it yet (though yet another executive has hinted at the handheld/console hybrid concept), but it’s kind of exciting as well.
E3. Gamescom. PAX West. Tokyo Game Show. All of them have come and gone with nothing. Even though it was ultimately a bad idea for Sega to drop the Saturn on an unsuspecting public, this information blackout is almost enough to make me hope Nintendo pulls the same trick. And they just might be able to pull it off too, as the latest rumors around the NX say Nintendo performed a trial production run of their upcoming console in preparation for the beginning of full production.
But what about the games? Thankfully, we learned a lot more about the NX’s in-development lineup of games in recent weeks. (more…)

Kickstart This! Sulphur Nimbus: Hel’s Elixir
With the unfortunate cancellation of Arc Continuum, we’ve reached the last of our recent spurt of Kickstarter games, which hails from Norwegian developer Oddwarg, AKA Oddvar Hungnes, creator of indie hits like Eggman Hates Furries, Super Sawman, and Patapony. Hungnes has a distinguished and anime-like style that can be seen in all of his games, as well as on his Deviant Art page. And now he’s bringing his latest venture, Sulphur Nimbus: Hel’s Elixir, to the crowdfunding circuit.
Come fly with me! Lets fly! Lets fly away! (more…)
Warpback: What We Played in September 2016
We here at Warp Zoned had a busy month of gaming this past September. For the most part, we dug into our backlogs, but with our Senior Editor at PAX West, there were a lot of newer games on the list as well! Hit the jump to see just what we were up to for the last few weeks. (more…)
Kickstart This! Magicland
After Pokemon Go became an instant phenomenon, I was honestly expecting to read about a slew of upcoming augment reality games. But Magicland is the first I have seen, and while it could be accused of riffing on Niantic’s catch ‘em all game, it has more in common with other, more divisive titles like Spore and No Man’s Sky. It may be a little rough around the edges, but any game that might enthrall kids and get them outside playing could be a good thing.
Let’s go exploring! (more…)
Kickstart This! Ultra Captain & The Great Piratey Space Escape
We continue our crowdfunding adventure with the latest Kickstart This! title, the highly-addictive Ultra Captain & The Great Piratey Space Escape. It is the first title from brand new developer Killed Soda, another Canadian outfit based in the lovely sounding Iroquois Falls. Led by their own intrepid captain, Jesse Cybolsky, their five year mission is to create fun, challenging games that are filled with interesting and hilarious moments to really pull players into the experience. So let’s see what makes this project so promising.

Kickstart This! Z’Isle
There are so many ambitious games on Kickstarter right now, and I seem to have missed them all while being snowed under with non-gaming related work (and because I have literally just finished Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, my September obsession). But fear not, dear readers, for I shall be covering them all in the very near future!
There are five projects live at the moment that I absolutely adore for very different reasons. Ultra Captain is a fun-filled space ship manager. Magicland is hopping onto the AR wagon with a game that blends Pokemon Go and Spore. ARC Continuum is a third-person sci-fi shooter set in an epic, rich new world where you have the power to manipulate time. There is also Sulphur Nimbus, an acid-induced flying game featuring a multi-coloured hippogriff, which is possibly a first for any game.
Right now, though, it’s time to enter the zombie-infested world of Z’Isle, a tactical turn-based cyclepunk rpg. Yes, you read that right, cyclepunk!
Bike weapons at the ready! (more…)
It’s In Your Blood: A History of Horror Games (Part Four)
We’ve all been scared at one time or another. While “normal” people may try to avoid it at all costs, the rest of us actively seek out that primitive, guttural thrill. Horror movies do this well enough, but why bother watching when you can participate? There’s nothing like a good survival horror game, from Dead Space to Alien: isolation — but diehard fear junkies know the genre began much earlier. If that’s news to you, it’s okay! Just sit down and quiet yourselves, boys and girls, because class is in session.
After looking back at the birth of survival horror, the rise in popularity, and a huge wave of sequels, today, we’ll cover the next chapter in the genre’s evolution — one some would even describe as the death of true survival horror video games. (more…)
