Metrico+ Review: This Visually Unique Puzzle Platformer Charts Its Own Course
Graphic designers who spend their days translating statistical findings into a series of colorful bars and charts are working in the interesting new field of infographics. And if you’ve opened an Internet browser at all in the last five years, you’ve more than likely seen dozens of them.
Companies love infographics because they’re able to distill complex statistical studies down into an image that is easily shareable across Facebook and Twitter. Audiences love them because they provide easily digestible primers on subjects as frivolous as the many on-screen deaths of Sean Bean to serious societal problems like income inequality.
Dutch development studio Digital Dreams used this same philosophy to create Metrico, a puzzle platformer that was released for the Vita in 2014. The team expanded on their original concept, and launched Metrico+, a remake/sequel, for the Xbox One last month. (more…)
Amnesia Collection Review: Are You Afraid of the Dark?
As a primarily console-centric gamer, I rarely use my PC to play games. But don’t get me wrong… I know it’s a great platform to play games on. I did download Undertale, and I do intend to play it, but quite frankly, my rig isn’t powerful enough to handle some of the best titles that PC gaming has to offer. This is a bit of a bummer for me, as I know I am missing out on a lot of quality games that are exclusive to the platform, one of which is Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
My interest was piqued in the horror game when I first heard about how terrifying it is, and I started looking into it. Coincidentally, that’s right around the time that “Let’s Play” videos on YouTube began to rise in popularity. There was nothing more fun than seeing someone play a horror game and watching their reactions to the jump-scare moments. And as a fan of all things horror, I was immediately hooked. But unfortunately, I was never able to play Amnesia… that is, until now. (more…)

Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 PS4 Review: Final Justice
At Sony’s PlayStation Experience event in December, Capcom surprised fighting game fans everywhere with two major announcements. The first was Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite, a brand new entry in the ever-popular Marvel Vs Capcom franchise. And the second was that Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, which originally debuted five years ago, was getting ported to current-gen systems. Now available as a timed PlayStation 4 exclusive, and eventually making its way to the Xbox One and Steam, Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 hopes to scratch gamers’ fighting game itch until Infinite comes out later this year.
So now several questions arise… Is Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 worth picking up on the PS4? Should I purchase it if I still have the original? What’s included in the PS4 re-release? Has Zero finally been nerfed? While I’ll do my best to answer all these questions, I will definitely tell you this is one worth picking up… but maybe not just yet… (more…)
Super Mario Run Review: Nintendo’s Got A Winner After Plumbing New Depths on iOS
Whether you’re a video game fan looking for more games on the go or a stock market analyst fixated on profit margins, you’ve likely spent the last few years wondering when Nintendo would finally break into mobile game development. Earlier this year, the consolemaker dipped their toe into those waters with the Miitomo communication app, but now they’re finally ready to dive into that big blue ocean with their first mobile game, Super Mario Run. Street Fighter V: 2016 Season Pass Review: A Look Back at All the New Content
To say that Street Fighter V released with a bit of criticism would be an understatement. Critics (including myself) and fans alike derided the game due to its lack of an Arcade Mode, small number of characters, and just overall feeling of incompleteness. That’s not to say the game was bad… it just felt lacking. Capcom made it clear they would release timely updates in order to keep the game feeling fresh, and they even made a Season Pass available shortly before launch to ensure fans could keep up with everything.
By the time Summer rolled around, we’d already received a pair of new characters, some stages, and a handful of costumes. Alex stepped into the fight in March, and All-American badass Guile dropped in April. Both characters were interesting, and they did keep the game going, but the major updates were still in the future. Thankfully, Capcom delivered a full-fledged major update by July. Some of the items were technically supposed to release in June, but hey – what’s the difference between June 30th and July 1st, right? (more…)

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Review: Ghost Train to Paradise
Nearly six years after Bandai Namco produced the nearly-perfect Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, the spinoff series returned a few weeks ago with the inexplicably named Pac-Man Championship Edition 2. As the third entry in the Championship Edition series, fans expect to see gorgeous neon-lit mazes and high-speed Dot chomping, and Bandai Namco delivers. But the publisher also added a few new moves to Pac-Man’s repertoire for CE2… along with boss battles. (more…)
No Man’s Sky Review: Lost in Space
Before rendering our verdict on No Man’s Sky, we wanted to get as far away as possible from the controversy and chaos surrounding the game’s launch. This allowed us to experience all that the game offers, and gave us more time to contemplate the developer’s vision. I haven’t completed No Man’s Sky, and honestly, I haven’t even come close. When Hello Games announced that this game would be epic in size and scope, they certainly weren’t kidding
This review will hone in on all the traditional beats (story, controls, graphics, audio, etc), but No Man’s Sky is all about exploration and discovery, and it’s unlikely that anyone will duplicate my own personal experiences with the game. If you’ve played No Man’s Sky, your stories will certainly differ, but in the end, my goal is to give you a good idea of the vast, immeasurable universe that Hello Games created. (more…)
