Nintendo dates new Professor Layton, Paper Mario, many more; delays Luigi’s Mansion 2
It’s beginning to look a lot like Fall as Nintendo has announced release dates for many of their biggest 3DS, 3DS eShop, and DS releases for the rest of the year.
Art Academy: Lessons For Everyone! and Crosswords Plus will lead things off on October 1. Style Savvy: Trendsetters launches later in the month on the 22nd and then Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask makes its North American debut on October 28.
The Big N also has a big November planned with Freakyforms Deluxe: Your Creations, Alive! (November 5) and Paper Mario: Sticker Star (November 11).
Sadly, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon won’t make it into stores before the end of 2012. The ghostbustin’ sequel has been pushed back and given a new “first half of 2013” release window.
Mamma mia! Oh well, hit the jump for a massive list of release dates for many of this Fall’s Nintendo-published and third party 3DS, 3DS eShop, and DS games. (more…)
NCAA Football 13 is the bestselling game of July 2012
The NPD Group has released their list of the ten bestselling games of July 2012 and, surprising no one, NCAA Football 13 took the top spot.
The football sim was the only new release from the month of July to crack the top ten, but to be fair, there weren’t very many games released last month. Instead, the top ten is populated by holdovers like Lego Batman 2, The Amazing Spider-Man, and two Call of Duty games (Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3). According to Joystiq, this motley crew could only manage sales of $260.7 million, a 23% drop from July 2011’s take of $338.5 million.
The full top ten is available after the break. (more…)
Nintendo Download: Super Mario Land 2 discount, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, more
Welcome to your weekly Nintendo Download news! This week, Nintendo has discounted Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins as part of their Month of Mario promotion. The game will carry a $2.99 price tag from today through Wednesday, August 15.
Are you looking for something new instead? How about these new additions to the company’s download services:
Touch Battle Tank 3D (3DS eShop) – In Touch Battle Tank 3D, it’s you on a solo mission against a nearly unstoppable army of killer tanks. Your strategy – keep the action going and the shells flying!
Commando: Steel Disaster (DSiWare) – A military group is being attacked by some of its own war machines. It’s up to a commando and vehicle specialist code-named Storm to stop this terrorist threat.
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special (Wii Virtual Console) – Originally released in 1997, this fighting game is the sixth installment in the Fatal Fury series. With a system based on previous games in the series, the game introduced a more evolved two-line battle, improved the power gauge system and abolished the ring out system.
Wario Land goes for the gold in this week’s Nintendo Download
With the Opening Ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games less than 24 hours away, the big game in this week’s Nintendo Download is very fitting. The Olympics are all about the quest for the gold medal and the Game Boy classic, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, is also all about the desire for gold. Though, in this case, Wario is looking for a giant gold statue instead of a tiny medal.
Wario’s first starring role in a game is also one-half of this week’s entry in Nintendo’s “8-Bit Summer.” Mario’s evil twin is joined by the Game Boy puzzler Mole Mania on the 3DS eShop.
Hit the jump for a look at the rest of the games in this week’s Nintendo Download as well a pair of 3DS eShop deals. (more…)
New Releases: MiCoach by Adidas, More
With a solitary new release last week and just a handful of new releases scheduled for this week, I think gamemakers are doing everything they can to avoid the juggernaut that is The Dark Knight Rises.
Can you blame them? But three games did manage to slip through to store shelves…
505 Games is bucking the trend by releasing MiCoach by Adidas for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
The exercise game is joined by a pair of DS games, the high-speed puzzle platformer, To-Fu Collection, and the match-3 puzzle game, Cradle of Persia.
Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters added to 3DS eShop as part of Nintendo’s 8-Bit Summer
After Nintendo launched the Game Boy, they used their new handheld to resurrect some of their (then) long-forgotten franchises. That’s how Samus Aran jumped back into the limelight and that’s how gamers got their last taste of Kid Icarus until this Spring’s 3DS seqeul, Kid Icarus: Uprising.
Before Pit was brought back in 2012, he starred in Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters. The black-and-white game is now available on the 3DS eShop as part of Nintendo’s 8-Bit Summer. It’s joined by another Game Boy game from long ago, the vacuum cleaner shooter Tumble Pop.
Four other games make up this week’s Nintendo Download. You can hit the jump for more information on all of them. (more…)
Pokemon Conquest Review: Teaching An Old Eevee New Tricks
Ever wonder what would happen if you took the historical accuracy of Dynasty Warriors, mixed it with the characters and style of Pokemon, and turned it into a strategy RPG akin to Nobunaga’s Ambition? You’d get Pokemon Conquest, the latest addition to the popular Pokemon franchise. It’s time to fight your way through the 17 kingdoms of Ransei and unite them all under one banner. The real question I found myself wondering before playing it was: will this be a fun deviation from the typical Pokemon gameplay? Or will this eclectic attempt be a total dud? (more…)
Lego Batman 2 rises to the top of the June 2012 bestsellers list
With editions on seven different platforms, Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes rose to the top of The NPD Group’s monthly list of bestselling games. The remainder of the list was split between new releases, May holdovers, and Fall 2011 games that are still popular.
There were only a handful of new games available in June with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (#2), Pokemon Conquest (#7), and The Amazing Spider-Man (#10) all earning spots in the top ten. Grasshopper’s Lollipop Chainsaw didn’t make the cut, continuing Suda 51’s lack of success at the register.
An astounding four games from Fall 2011 continue to sell strongly enough to make the top ten: NBA 2K12 (#5), Batman: Arkham City (#6, boosted by the newly released Game of the Year Edition), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (#8), and Battlefield 3 (#9). I’m sure it helps that all were among the best-reviewed games of last year.
As a whole, game and hardware sales are down 29% from June 2011, according to Joystiq.
A complete list of last month’s best-selling games can be found after the break. (more…)
