Daily Scoop: June 12, 2014 – Last day of E3!

E3 is wrapping up, and I’m sad to see it go, even if I’m not there. It’s one of the most exciting times of the year! But hey, at least we’ve got tons to look forward to.

There’s a brand new Humble Weekly Bundle, and it’s called Indievision! Pay what you want for “The Quiet Girl’s Guide to Violence,” “Men With Beards,” “Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters,” “Cinema Six,” “Omega Jam,” Cryptic Sea EP, and A Virus Named Tom. Pay more than $6 for “Minecraft: The Story of Mojang Deluxe Edition” and Serious Sam 3: BFE. Pay $15 or more to also unlock the Serious Sam Complete Pack.

There are some new deals at Steam as well. The Weekend Deal is Wargame: Red Dragon, which is on sale for $26.79 until the 16th. The Daily Deal is Drunken Robot Pornography, and it’s on sale for $7.49. Scoop ’em up!

Daily Scoop: June 11, 2014 – E3 halfway done

The news from E3 is still pouring in! There are so many amazing announcements being made. And I love seeing all of these photos of my friends having a great time in LA! One of these days, I’ll make it back there. One of these days!

In the meantime, I’ll probably buy some games on sale and wallow in them tonight. Actually, I finished my homework 24 hours early, so I’ve got a whole unplanned night to do whatever I want! I haven’t been this excited about nothing in a pretty long time. Maybe I’ll grab the Mixer Bundle over at Indie Royale, which has Doorways, Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages, Famaze, Restaurant Empire II, Knights and Merchants, Finding Teddy, Turba, and Spandex Force: Champion Rising. Or maybe I’ll snag the Humble Weekly Bundle, which features loads of German games, including Beatbuddy: Tale of the Guardians!

Of course, I could just go home and play Gone Home, which I already own and haven’t started yet. If you want to check it out, it’s the Daily Deal at Steam today for $6.79.

Or, if your backlog is massive enough, maybe just grab one of these t-shirts! (more…)

Daily Scoop: June 10, 2014 – E3 in full swing

Yesterday’s and this morning’s press conferences were a blast! We went out to see the PlayStation E3 Experience at a movie theater last night, and it was so much fun. I couldn’t get over LittleBigPlanet 3! There’s so much amazing stuff happening. I feel like I say this every year, but: it’s a great time to be a gamer!

Speaking of being gamers, let’s talk about some game deals! There are a few good sales happening over at the Humble Store right now – you can get into the Prison Architect Alpha for $9.89, get early access to Broforce for $11.99, or grab Cloudbuilt for $9.99.

The Midweek Madness over at Steam is Rogue Legacy, which is on sale for $5.09. Everyone I know has it, but hey – why not buy a copy for a loved one? The Daily Deal is $3.39 for Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Edition. Scoop ’em up!

And now, let’s take a look at t-shirt offerings… (more…)

Sony @ E3 14: Ratchet & Clank movie, PS4 game announced

sonye32014-header

We already knew the Ratchet & Clank movie was coming soon, but what came as a surprise is that a remake of the first game in the franchise, also titled Ratchet & Clank, will be released for the PS4 in early 2015. Which is roughly the same time as the movie.

Makes sense.

Sony @ E3 14: PS4 original programming show Powers announced

sonye32014-header

Not just happy with showing video games, Sony showed off an original show, Powers, a television show based on the popular graphic novel.

Powers is a show about homicide detectives that work cases specifically centered around superpowers. Think of it as “Law and Order: Dead Super Heroes Unit.” The show is being run by Brian Michael Bendis, the creator of the original comic series, so expect it to stay very true to the source material.

More info will be dropped throughout the Summer. The show itself will hit the PS4 this December.

MS @ E3 14: Microsoft confirms Halo: The Master Chief Collection coming this Fall

microsofte32014-header

Do you remember that Halo: The Master Chief Collection rumor that cropped up a few weeks ago? It’s real and it’s more than we could have ever hoped for.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection will include remastered and remade versions of Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4. The Collection will include every multiplayer map ever to grace a Master Chief Halo game, more than 100 in all, along with six maps from Halo 2 that will be recreated exactly as they existed in 2004. For those who are interested in the campaigns, every level from every game will be unlocked right from the start. And Microsoft has said that players will be able to create a unified playlist of their favorite levels across all four games. So if you’re one of those vocal folks who hates “The Library,” now you can skip it. And as with Forza Horizon 2, all four games will run in crisp 1080p.

The compilation will also include access to the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta and the Halo: Nightfall live-action series (it has a name!).

Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be available this Fall.

Tetris turns 30 years old today and creator Alexey Pajitnov still plays every week

Forget Pong. Forget Pac-Man. Even forget Space Invaders. The greatest gaming obsession was undoubtedly Tetris. The game, which single-handedly invented the “falling block” puzzler, is celebrating its 30th birthday today.

On June 6, 1984, in a country that was then still known as the Soviet Union, Alexey Pajitnov completed development on the first version of Tetris. Pajitnov, who moved to the United States in 1991, said he still plays his creation a few times a week: “I never imagined Tetris was going to be this successful. But the simple, yet addicting nature of Tetris still has me playing it a few times every week. I meet fans from around the world who are also as passionate about Tetris as me, and there is no doubt in my mind Tetris will continue to expand and bring its classic appeal to new players in new ways and on new devices, whatever they may be.”

Together with Henk Roger, the two men founded The Tetris Company in 1996 and continue to license new entries in the series to this day. And with the game’s 30th anniversary upon us (which they’re calling “We All Fit Together”), they’ve got plenty of cool stuff planned for this year:

  • Ubisoft’s new Tetris Ultimate lands on PS4 and Xbox One this Summer (and on the PC in the Fall).
  • Electronic Arts introduced a new mode to Tetris Blitz (iOS, Android) called Retro Blitz with shapes, styles, and colors that are an homage to the original Game Boy version from 1989.
  • Tetris Online is joining in the celebration with 30th Anniversary updates to the Tetris Battle game on Facebook and the all-new Tetris Battle: Fusion game, now available for download on Amazon Fire TV.
  • Rasta Imposta is bringing the Tetris lifestyle to adoring fans in the form of great Tetrimino-shaped Halloween costumes, interactive costumes and accessories.
  • Robe Factory is extending the Tetris lifestyle into our everyday lives from the moment we step out of bed with plush robes and slippers, and into the bathroom with great Tetris designs on shower curtains, towels and rugs. The Tetris fun will continue on great new leggings, socks, footwear and more.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to buy a birthday cake for my favorite game and blow out the candles with my screams of frustration after I don’t get that long piece I need.
