The Pinball Arcade: An Interview With Community Manager Rob Mann
In February of this year, FarSight Studios released The Pinball Arcade, their most ambitious pinball simulation game yet. For those unaware, The Pinball Arcade is a collection of real-world pinball tables, painstakingly digitized to the smallest detail and available on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and mobile devices. Every month since release, new tables have been added as DLC. And, as a major accomplishment, licensed tables such as “The Twilight Zone” and “Harley-Davidson” were obtained with a little help from the game’s dedicated fan base. Just this past Tuesday, “Elvira and the Party Monsters” and “No Good Gofers” were added to the PlayStation store
As a diehard pinball fan, and a fan of FarSight’s pinball offerings in general, I was eager to learn more about The Pinball Arcade. Therefore, I recently chatted with FarSight Studios User Community Manager Rob Mann to inquire about The Pinball Arcade’s present, and what we can look forward to in the future. (more…)
More Angry Birds Star Wars gameplay trailers
Rovio has released two additional gameplay trailers for Angry Birds Star Wars featuring everyone’s favorite droids and everyone’s favorite smugglers.
C-3PO is able to use his power of klutziness as he shatters into several pieces after colliding with the Pig Empire. R2-D2, naturally, is on top of things and pulls out his zapper arm to explode barriers. When Chewbacca gets his turn, he just turns on his Wookiee rage and powers through everything with his immense size and strength. Let the Wookiee win indeed. Finally, Han Solo perfers to have a good blaster by his side and he puts it to good use.
Both trailers can be found after the break and Angry Birds Star Wars will be available to download on November 8. (more…)
The Force is strong with the first Angry Birds Star Wars gameplay trailer
What do you get when you stuff a bird into a slingshot and give him a Lightsaber? Video game magic, that’s what.
Check out the first gameplay trailer for Angry Birds Star Wars above and watch as Bird Luke Skywalker uses his Lightsaber to slice through a bunch of Pig Stormtroopers on Tatooine. Bird Princess Leia is also on hand to lend a Force Push to a Pig AT-AT on Hoth.
Angry Birds Star Wars will be available to download for the iOS, Android, and PC on November 8.
GTA: Vice City hijacks its way onto mobile devices this Fall
Rockstar Games was so pleased with last year’s mobile re-release of Grand Theft Auto III that they’re doing it again. Today, the publisher announced plans to bring a special 10th anniversary edition of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City to iOS and Android devices later this Fall.
“Grand Theft Auto: Vice City gave players the freedom of a massive open-world in one of the most iconic and vibrant settings ever realized in a game,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “It was a defining moment in the series and we’re delighted to be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with a stunning, updated version for phones and tablets.”
Rockstar also plans to support the 10th anniversary of the open world classic with a new series of “commemorative assets including never-before-seen artwork and a brand new anniversary trailer highlighting some of the most iconic scenes and music from the game.” A limited run of Vice City collectibles will also be added to the Rockstar Warehouse soon.
First official Borderlands Legends details emerge from the vault
Already blown everything up in Borderlands 2? Found all the hidden references, all the homages to TV shows, and heard every dirty, dazzling line the sequel can throw at you? Are you eager for more blood splatter on the dust of Pandora? Then Borderlands Legends is the mobile/tablet game for you.
Featuring the original lineup of character from Borderlands (who are NPCs in the sequel), the new title takes the first person shooter and warps it into a top-down squadron-based shooter where you control the gun-toting quartet of Roland, Mordecai, Brick, and the fiery Lillith. Each character will have a mini-skill tree similar to the console games, and they can be tooled to the teeth thanks to the omni-presence of Marcus and his vending machines. As it is top-down, players will now be able to use cover to plan their attacks through the hordes of rakk, bandits, spiderants, and other Pandorian scum.
Like Claptrap, the game is annoying only for iOS devices ($4.99 for iOS, $6.99 for iPad), with no word on an Android or Windows 8 version. But with Borderlands Legends’ iOS release scheduled for October 31, we probably won’t have to wait long.

Apple officially announces iPad Mini
After all the endless speculation (I swear, it feels like I’ve been hearing about it since last year), Apple officially announced the iPad Mini at a media event today.
Clocking in at 7.9 diagonal inches, Apple is touting the tablet as “Every inch an iPad,” even though they’ve lopped off a little over two inches from the device. That said, the iPad Mini will run every iOS app, even those designed exclusively for the iPad. It’s spec sheet promises a 10-hour battery life, 5 MP camera, access to Siri, and support for the new Lightning connector. The Mini is also, obviously, the thinnest and lightest iPad yet.
The iPad Mini will be available on November 2 (pre-orders begin this Friday, October 26) in either black or white. Six different hardware configurations will be available, including:
- $329 – 16GB Wi-Fi
- $429 – 32GB Wi-Fi
- $459 – 16GB Wi-Fi + Cellular
- $529 – 64GB Wi-Fi
- $559 – 32GB Wi-Fi + Cellular
- $659 – 64GB Wi-Fi + Cellular
A complete rundown of the iPad Mini’s specs and a comparison between the three iPad models can be found at Apple.com.
Bad Piggies Review: The Pigs Shall Rise Again; or, Gone with the Swine
Even though the concept of Angry Birds made me uncomfortable at first – trying to hurt or injure pigs (who I like in real life) with birds (who I despise in real life) didn’t sound like fun – after this game, I definitely want to shoot birds, or anything, at the pigs.
Bad Piggies is a new game from Finnish Rovio Entertainment, the makers of Angry Birds (Angry Birds, Angry Birds Space, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Magic, Angry Birds Southern Murder Mystery… okay that last one was to see if you were paying attention). These are based on the (presumably) centuries-old battle between hog and air-rat, and which I like to pretend is for world domination instead of bird eggs… it’s more interesting that way. This time, however, you’re playing as the pigs, and those petulant swine have a score to settle. (more…)
Borderlands Legends coming to iOS this month
The original vault hunters from Borderlands (Brick, Lilith, Mordecai, and Roland) are coming back for another round of ridiculous shooting action in Borderlands Legends for the iPad/iPhone/iTouch. The existence of the app was confirmed thanks to a post on the Gearbox Software Forums.
Borderlands Legends will be available in October (hey, that’s this month!) and will offer “randomized missions, thousands of different weapons, 36 unique powers and abilities, and a strategic cover system.”
All of these bullet points will be in support of “Fight For Your Life Mode,” a survival shooter where players have to battle wave after wave of Pandoran enemies.
