Yacht Club will also release Amiibo figures for King Knight, Specter Knight, Plague Knight
In addition to unveiling the first gameplay footage from Shovel Knight: King of Cards, Nintendo and Yacht Club Games announced that a new Amiibo 3-Pack featuring King Knight, Specter Knight, and Plague Knight will soon be available.
Tapping each Order of No Quarter member will unlock “exclusive armor sets, new Challenge stages, and the ability to summon fairy companions to accompany players on quests” in Shovel Knight. You can get a look at the new figures in the GameGrumps-produced trailer embedded above.
Shovel Knight: King of Cards will be available to download for the 3DS, Wii U, and Switch in Early 2018. The Amiibo 3-Pack doesn’t currently have a release date, but presumably it’ll appear in stores around the same time.

Super Mario Odyssey takes home “Best of Gamescom” award at 2017 Gamescom expo
Hats off to Super Mario Odyssey…
Nintendo’s upcoming platformer took home five Gamescom Awards this year, including 2017’s “Best of Gamescom” title, as well as “Best Nintendo Switch Game,” “Best Action Game,” “Best Family Game,” and the fan-voted “Most Wanted Consumer Award.”
The only other game to capture multiple Gamescom Awards was Destiny 2, which won “Best Social/Online Game” and “Best Multiplayer Game.”
The international jury spread out the remainder of the Gamescom Awards and chose to honor Assassin’s Creed: Origins (“Best PS4 Game”), Middle-Earth: Shadow of War (“Best Xbox One Game”), Kingdom Come: Deliverance (“Best PC Game”), and Metroid: Samus Returns (“Best Mobile Game”) in the platform categories. Another wide variety of titles (including Project CARS 2, Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, Pro Evolution Soccer 2018, and others) were big winners in the genre categories.
The complete list of nominees and winners for the 2017 Gamescom Awards can be found after the break. (more…)
Overview Trailer for Metroid: Samus Returns includes everything you ever wanted to know about the game
Nintendo’s famed bounty hunter, Samus Aran, will return this September in the Metroid: Samus Returns, but she’ll have plenty of new tricks up her metallic sleeve.
Metroid: Samus Returns is a remake of 1991’s Metroid II: Return of Samus, the only game in the franchise to be released for the Game Boy. In its leap to the 3DS, Nintendo and developer MercurySteam have added a variety of new Aeion Abilities, a powerful Melee Counter, and Amiibo-exclusive bonuses. The space adventure was also given a beautiful graphical upgrade… so say goodbye to the soupy shades of “Game Boy Green” found in the original game.
But if you want to learn more about all of these enhancements, then Samus Returns’s new Overview Trailer is for you:
Welcome to Planet SR388, a world of subterraneous labyrinths, vicious alien lifeforms, mysterious secrets…and a deadly Metroid infestation. Legendary bounty hunter Samus Aran is the galaxy’s only hope—in this video, learn more about the incredible arsenal at her disposal and the many obstacles she must face.
Metroid: Samus Returns will be released exclusively for the 3DS on September 15.
Content Crash #10: Gamescom 2017 Preview
What’s going on everyone? Welcome to the Content Crash podcast, I am your host, Dan Hartnack. With me this time is my co-host, Keno Eastmond.
This week we’re going to give you a preview of Gamescom 2017. If you’re familiar, Gamescom is the European version of E3. It’s held annually in Cologne, Germany, and it’s been around since 2009. A lot of the European developers use Gamescom to show off their stuff and it’s held in mid-August as something of a followup to E3.
The show’s going to kick off on August 22, so let’s get to it.

Nintendo Download: Minecraft: Story Mode, Jackbox Party Pack, Sky Ride, more
This week’s Nintendo Download is here… and it’s party time.
After dropping The Jackbox Party Pack 3 on the Switch closer to the console’s launch, Jackbox Games is back with both of its predecessors… The Jackbox Party Pack and The Jackbox Party Pack 2. Each Pack includes five party games, and some will offer thrills and entertainment for up to 100 players.
Speaking of parties, Switch owners will also be able to hook up with Jesse and friends on Tuesday, August 22, in Minecraft: Story Mode – The Complete Adventure. The bundle will include all eight episodes from the game’s first season.
Finally, Switch owners will also get the chance to download Sky Ride, a 3D shooter that defies gravity; and Magician Lord, a side-scrolling beat ’em up and one of the first games ever released for the NeoGeo.
You can learn more about all of these games (and a pair of new 3DS games) after the break. (more…)
Nintendo Download: Flip Wars, Severed, Sonic Mania (Tuesday), more
Nintendo has made the Switch a very indie-friendly place to be since the console’s launch in March, but things are getting even friendlier with this week’s Nintendo eShop update…
Flip Wars, that adorable tile-flipping game from the Switch’s first Nindies Showcase, is now available to download. Up to four players will attempt to push out their friends by grabbing powerups and flipping tiles in local, online, or single-player battles.
Also available to download this week is Severed, the wild touchscreen-based dungeon crawler from DrinkBox Studios. Severed was originally released for the Vita, Wii U, and DS in 2016, and it can only be played using the Switch’s Handheld Mode.
Elsewhere on the Switch eShop, console owners will find Phantom Trigger, a neon-fused hack and slash from TinyBuild; and Ironcast, a turn-based strategy game from Ripstone.
Finally this week, Sega will release the indie-inspired Sonic Mania for the Switch on Tuesday, August 15. Developed by a “supergroup” of indie developers lead by Christian “Taxman” Whitehead and Simon “Headcannon” Thomley, Sonic Mania will take the Blue Blur back to his 16-bit roots.
You can learn more about all of these titles (and a few other new releases) after the break. (more…)
