Cloud now available to download in Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U; Bayonetta and Corrin confirmed for February 2016
Nintendo uploaded a “Final Video Presentation” for Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U last night, giving gamers their first look at the final two challengers that’ll approach the Smash arena in 2016.
The video opens with a look at Corrin, a swordfighter from Fire Emblem Fates who will be available to download in February 2016. Like Wii Fit Trainer, Robin, and The Villager, players will be able to choose from a male or female version of the character. And according to Nintendo, Corrin also “has the blood of a dragon in his veins,” allowing him/her to pull off some truly amazing attacks.
Cloud Strife also gets the superstar treatment if you jump ahead to 7:55 in the video embedded above. Best of all, the Final Fantasy VII character is now available to download through the Nintendo eShop for $5.99 on the Wii U, $5.99 on the 3DS, or $6.99 on both. Featuring two costume options, players will even be able to perform Cloud’s famous Limit Break attack, as well as a Materia Summons attack on his Midgar stage.
But the biggest surprise of the presentation can be viewed at 18 minutes in, when Nintendo announced that Bayonetta received the most votes in the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot. To thank all the fans who voted, the titular star of Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 will be added to the Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U roster in February 2016, alongside a special Umbra Clock Tower stage.
Finally, Amiibo fans will be pleased to learn that figures for Ryu, R.O.B. (Famicom Style), and Roy will be available in stores on March 18, 2016. And don’t worry, Nintendo has every intention of creating Amiibo figures for Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta. More information on the latter trio will be announced at a later date.
Nintendo Download: SteamWorld Heist, FAST Racing Neo, Terraria 3DS, more
While Microsoft and Sony have been ramping down their digital releases over the last few weeks, Nintendo is going all out with this week’s Nintendo Download. Ready… Set… Go…
- FAST Racing Neo (Wii U) is Shin’en Multimedia’s homage to the futuristic racing found in Nintendo’s famed F-Zero franchise. Players will be able to tear through 16 tracks at 60 frames per second in three “high-octane competitions.”
- SteamWorld Heist (3DS) is a side-scrolling strategy game from Image & Form starring the adventurous race of robots from their well-liked SteamWorld Dig.
- Terraria (3DS) is Re-Logic’s famed exploration/building game, available for the 3DS for the first time.
- Devil’s Third (Wii U) is an action game from Tomonobu Itagaki that stars Ivan, “a brutal ex-mercenary” who specializes in “an east-meets-west blend of ninja-style melee combat and modern gunplay.”
More information about all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)
Bravely Second will be released in Europe on February 26
Nintendo UK has announced that Bravely Second: End Layer, Square Enix’s sequel to Bravely Default, will be released across Europe on February 26, 2016.

— Nintendo UK (@NintendoUK) December 10, 2015
This tweet from Nintendo UK has also given gamers their first look at Bravely Second’s Deluxe Collector’s Edition, which will include a soundtrack CD, an Agnes figurine, and a 250-page art book. It’s unknown if the 3DS RPG will receive this kind of special treatment when it reaches North American shores, but hopefully it will when its released over here sometime in early 2016.
Shovel Knight Amiibo will be available in US on January 8 (but EU gets it on December 11)
I’m sure everyone that fell hard for Shovel Knight on the Wii U and 3DS last year was hoping to find a little shoveler of their own under the Christmas tree this year. Alas, it’s not to be… unless you live in Europe, that is. Yacht Club Games has announced that the Shovel Knight Amiibo figure will be available across Europe on December 11, but we in North America will have to wait until January 8. The developers apologized for this slight delay in a post on their official website, but they also want their fans to know that “it will not be a limited run, so please don’t feel pressured into importing or buying from scalpers.”
But once you get your hands on the Shovel Knight Amiibo figure, you’ll be able to unlock a full Co-Op Campaign (Wii U Only), five new Co-Op Challenges (Wii U Only), five new single-player Challenges, and the Custom Knight Creator:
Deep Customization with Custom Knight!
- Level up to a max level of 50 by finding treasure!
- Earn relics in an all new way while uncovering all-new relics, abilities, and powers you never thought possible!
- Customize the look of your Shovel Knight with cool and crazy cosmetic options!
- Use your Custom Knight seamlessly between Nintendo 3DS and Wii U!
Much like the platform-exclusive content available for Shovel Knight on the PS4 and Xbox One, the Co-Op Campaign, Custom Knight Creator, and new Challenges will only be available on Nintendo platforms.
Nintendo Download: Xenoblade Chronicles X, Pokemon Picross, Dementium Remastered, more
After a year of surprising new games (Splatoon, Super Mario Maker) and surprising delays (The Legend of Zelda Wii U, Star Fox Zero), Nintendo is finally ready to close out 2015 with what might be their biggest game for the Wii U yet… Xenoblade Chronicles X. The open world sci-fi adventure is packed with mechs, aliens, space battles, and the near extinction of the human race. And that’s just the beginning… the planet of Mira holds many surprises.
Try to forget about next week’s release of Devil’s Third, it causes havoc with my whole intro.
The 3DS eShop is home to a handful of interesting games this week as well. Nintendo is merging their Picross series of picture puzzle games with Pokemon this week in Pokemon Picross. Players will be able to tackle 300 standard puzzles, a “significantly” more difficult Advanced Mode, and Daily Training puzzles. On the opposite end of the cute and cuddly scale is Dementium Remastered, an enhanced remake of Renegade Kid’s first-person horror title.
Finally this week, we swing back around to the Wii U for the release of Trauma Team, a surgery sim from Atlus, and the first third-party Wii game to be added to the Wii U eShop.
More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)
SteamWorld Heist will be released for 3DS on December 10; Other platforms to follow in 2016
Image & Form has announced that SteamWorld Heist, their turn-based space adventure starring sentient robots, will be released for the 3DS on December 10. SteamWorld Heist will be regularly priced at $19.99, but Image & Form is slashing the price by $3 (to $16.99) for its first three weeks of availability. The developer also revealed that a brand new trailer for the game will be available just ahead of the launch date, on December 8.
SteamWorld Heist will also be released for the PC, PS4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox One, and mobile devices sometime in 2016.
This Mighty No. 9 “Features Trailer” is mighty retro
Because Mighty No. 9 is developer Keiji Inafune’s loving homage to the Mega Man series, it features many hallmarks of the wildly popular franchise. You want a side-scrolling platformer? You got it. You want a robotic main character who can absorb abilities from enemy robots? Yup, that’s here too. So it should come as no surprise that the announcer in this “Features Trailer” is bombastic and a little ridiculous… just like he would have been in the carefree 90s.
So learn a little more about Mighty No. 9’s Boss Rush Mode, Challenge Mode, Online Challenge Mode (Competitive and Co-Op), and One-Hit Death Maniac Mode, and get yourself ready for the game’s release on February 9, 2016.
New Releases: Just Cause 3, Rainbow Six Siege, Xenoblade Chronicles X, More
Three big games will be available in stores this week, including the long-awaited continuation of the Xenoblade series and the return of Rico Rodriguez.
That’s right, everyone’s favorite high-flying secret agent is back in Just Cause 3 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Taking place on a “Mediterranean island paradise,” developer Avalanche Studios has promised that players will get to experience “complete vertical freedom” during their adventure with the ability to skydive, BASE jump, and free dive throughout the game’s open world.
Also available this week is Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Teams of five will use tactical strategies to either defend their base or break into it in a new “Infiltrate versus Fortify” style for the operatives versus terrorists series. The oft-forgotten Wii U gets a chance to shine this week too as Nintendo’s console is almost home to Xenoblade Chronicles X, another entry in their popular sci-fi RPG series. This time around, Players will be able to ride a personalized mechs called Skells and join online squads to battle massive bosses.
It’s not a new game, but a stealth re-release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will also be available in stores for the PS3 this week.
Finally, Microsoft will release the Xbox One 1TB Elite Bundle this week, which includes a 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive for faster access times and an Elite Wireless Controller. But more power requires a bigger credit card as Microsoft has priced the Xbox One 1TB Elite Bundle at $499.99.
A complete rundown of this week’s new releases can be found after the break. (more…)
