Vs. Super Mario Bros., SteamWorld Heist, Style Savvy: Styling Star, more coming to Nintendo eShop this week

Nintendo has one more Nintendo eShop update in the works for 2017… and it’s a doozy.

This week, Nintendo and Hamster Corporation have teamed up to bring Vs. Super Mario Bros. to the Switch. This arcade adaptation of Super Mario Bros. provides a slightly different variation on the revolutionary side-scroller, and it’s an historical artifact that all Nintendo completionists should be interested in.

Also available to download for the Switch this week is a pair of side-scrollers that previously appeared on other platforms. SteamWorld Heist is a tactical shooter from Image & Form, and Guns, Gore, and Cannoli is a platformer from Crazy Monkey that mixes mobsters and the undead.

Finally, Nintendo themselves will expand their fashionista simulation series with the release of Style Savvy: Styling Star for the 3DS.

Nintendo Power is back… as a podcast

It’s been five years since Nintendo pulled the plug on their official magazine, Nintendo Power, but bright days are ahead for the beloved brand. And that’s because Nintendo launched the very first episode of the Nintendo Power Podcast today.

Hosted by Chris Slate, the first episode delves into Nintendo’s big 2017 with Kit Ellis, the co-host of Nintendo Minute, and Damon Baker, the consolemaker’s Head of Publisher & Developer Relations. It also includes an extensive interview with Producer Eiji Aonuma and Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, the minds behind The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

It’s unknown how often Nintendo will produce new episodes of the Nintendo Power Podcast, but I’m eagerly awaiting the next one. Each episode will be available through SoundCloud, iTunes, and the Google Play Store.

Nintendo will release Pokemon Crystal for the 3DS on January 26

3DS owners will continue to get the chance to catch some classic Pokemon games in 2018, as Nintendo has announced that Pokemon Crystal will be released for the handheld as a digital download on January 26.

Pokemon Crystal was originally released for the Game Boy Color in 2000 as an expanded and enhanced version of Pokemon Gold/Silver. The 3DS version will also be compatible with the Pokemon Bank app (giving players the opportunity to import classic Pokemon into the newer games), and players will be able to unlock the Celebi encounter after completing the game. According to Nintendo, in Pokemon Crystal’s original incarnation, Celebi could only be obtained by using a special accessory.

Pokemon Crystal will be priced at $9.99, and an Announcement Trailer has been embedded above.
