Here come the Men in Black (in a new game)
Here come the Men In Black // Galaxy defenders // Here come the Men In Black // They won’t let you remember.
After lodging that little ditty in your ear for the rest of the day, I can now use the rest of this post to talk about the new Men In Black game just announced by Activision.
Launching for “consoles and handhelds” alongside Men In Black III‘s Spring 2012 theatrical opening, the Men In Black game will be a standalone story that builds on the universe established in the movies to “bring back familiar faces, while also introducing new foes.” We have also been promised “action-packed, yet light-hearted gameplay mixed with edge-of-your-seat shooting excitement from the universe’s most elite peacekeeping force.”
“The Men In Black franchise is an unbeatable starting point to deliver a genre-bending gaming experience with a level of production value on par with Hollywood,” said David Oxford, Executive Vice President of Activision Publishing.
Activision has promised to reveal more gameplay details and characters (hopefully that means Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith) in the future, so don’t forget about the Men In Black!
New Releases: Forza 4, Dead Rising 2 Off the Record, Skylanders, More
Several very different types of games will drive onto store shelves this week and Microsoft’s Forza Motorsport 4 is leading the way. Turn 10’s racing simulator is back for more and now it’s packing a bunch of Kinect-exclusive features as well.
Also available this week is Capcom’s retelling of Dead Rising 2 (from Frank West’s perspective): Dead Rising 2: Off the Record (PC, PS3, Xbox 360). If you ever wanted to see Mr. I’ve Covered Wars You Know as an overweight wrestler fighting zombies, now’s your chance.
Activision’s ambitious action figure/video game mashup Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure is also being released this week. The package (which touts its use of “smart toys”) is a bit pricey, but it’ll be available for the 3DS, PC, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.
Finally this week, we get some new air adventures in Namco Bandai’s Ace Combat: Assault Horizon (PS3, Xbox 360) and some old west adventures in Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition (PS3, Xbox 360).

Nintendo Download: Horizon Riders, Minesweeper, More
After adding Zelda: Four Swords and Super Mario Land 2 to their online stores, what does Nintendo follow them up with? Business as usual.
The DSi Shop will receive two new releases: House: Episode 3 – Skull and Bones, another episode in the adventure game adventures of the pill-popping doc and Simply Minesweeper, a handheld version of the venerable Minesweeper.
The 3DS eShop adds Side Pocket, a Game Boy-era pool game in glorious black and white (and pea green).
Finally, Horizon Riders, a space shooter controlled with the Wii Balance Board had been added to the Wii Shop.
More information on all of these titles can be found in the weekly Nintendo Download newsletter.
New Releases: Rage, NBA 2K12, Dark Souls, More
The Fall release rush began with some big titles in September, but now that we’re moving into October the new release list is going to get a lot more interesting from here on out.
This week’s biggest new release is id Software’s first game in over seven years, Rage (PC, PS3, Xbox 360). The post-apocalyptic shooter will also include Mad Max-style vehicle chases and more deserted lanscapes can you can shake a cactus at.
Speaking of deserted landscapes, 2K Sports will release NBA 2K12 (PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, Xbox 360) even though the 2011-2012 NBA season is currently in limbo.
If battling the forces of darkness is more your thing, perhaps you’ll want to look into Namco Bandai’s Dark Souls. The spiritual sequel to Demon’s Souls brings the series to the Xbox 360 for the first time.
Also available this week, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 will have to do battle with the forces of darkness in two time periods if they want to save Peter Parker’s life in Spider-Man: Edge of Time (3DS, DS, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360).
Finally, Ubisoft is serving up another dance lesson, on the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 this time, with Just Dance 3. And speaking of Kinect-powered games, Majesco will release Hulk Hogan’s Main Event for the Xbox 360.

This Week’s Nintendo Download: Zelda Four Swords (for free), Super Mario Land 2
After weeks of weak offerings, Nintendo has finally pushed out an amazingly impressive Nintendo Download.
The big news is that The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords – Anniversary Edition is now available on the 3DS eShop and DSiWare Shop. But the bigger news is that the game can be downloaded for free from now until February 20, 2012 in honor of the franchise’s 25th anniversary.
Also available this week on the 3DS eShop is Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. Mario took a huge step forward in the handheld space with this game, which also introduced Wario to the world. It’s available for the nice price of $3.99 (though it’s not as nice as free).
In case either of these games don’t interest you, three more games were added to the various download services today: puzzlers EscapeVektor: Chapter 1 (WiiWare) and Crystal Caverns of Amon-Ra (DSiWare) and the Pong-like Bugs ‘N’ Balls (DSiWare).
Daily Scoop: September 28, 2011 – YAY Ico!
I was so involved with Ico yesterday that I forgot to even open my laptop. Sorry, Internet! But running around with Ico and Yorda again in beautiful high definition was just too amazing to be true. I am completely in love all over again. Also. People. It is pronounced EE-ko. Not AI-ko! “I” in Japanese comes out like “ee.” Everyone thinks I’m talking about Ecco the Dolphin when I mention my love of Ico. Please, stop the insanity!
Today’s Deal of the Day over at Amazon in video games is Capcom’s Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. This awesome DS title is on sale for just $15.99. Who in their right mind would object to that???
No game-related shirts today, but Ript has a cute “Firefly” one that is making me squee: (more…)
New Releases: FIFA 12, Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, X-Men Destiny, More
A soccer showdown highlights this week’s batch of new games as EA plans to release FIFA Soccer 12 on nearly every platform imaginable (3DS, PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, Xbox 360) while Konami brings Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 to the PS3 and Xbox 360.
But the biggest new release this week has nothing to do with the beautiful game… well it is a collection of beautiful games, that’s for sure. I speak, of course, of The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection. Two of the greatest and most acclaimed games of all-time have been remastered in high definition and are now finally available on the PS3. Oh, and speaking of HD remakes, Ubisoft is bringing Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy to the PS3 as well.
Also available this week is Activision’s X-Men: Destiny (DS, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360) and the first Tetris game on the 3DS, Tetris: Axis.

Nintendo Download: TwinBee 3D, Break Tactics, more
Nintendo has updated their trio of online shops with new games and, once again, the collective response of the world is “Never heard of them.”
But if you want to give this week’s new releases a whirl, the 3DS eShop received a “3D Classics” of TwinBee, a Famicom-only vertical shooter that never made it to America back in the day. But thanks to the handheld’s virtual console, gamers can play as it looked originally or in a new 3D mode.
Also available this week is a pair of puzzle-platformers: Aya and the Cubes of Light is available as WiiWare while Escape Trick: Ninja Castle is now on the DSi Shop.
Finally, Break Tactics, a “full-scale tactics game,” is available to download from the DSi Shop.
More information on all of these titles can be found in the Nintendo Download weekly newsletter.
