Pokemon Black & White shatter previous series sales records in U.S.
Now into its fifth generation of games, the Pokemon series is not losing any steam. Nintendo announced that day one sales in the U.S. for Pokemon Black Version and Pokemon White Version total over a million units when they released on March 6. That surpasses the previous Pokemon sales record in the U.S., which incidentally was the debut of the last generation, Diamond and Pearl.
Charlie Scibetta, Senior Director of Corporate Communications for Nintendo of America said, “these sales numbers illustrate the continued strength of the Nintendo DS family of systems. Already established as the nation’s best-selling video game platform of all time, the installed base of more than 47 million makes it the ideal hand-held for developers to reach a huge gaming-focused target audience.” While the DS is already firmly established as one of the strongest platforms of all time for quality titles, I’m not sure if I would say the target audience is “gaming-focused.”
Radiant Historia Review: An RPG Renaissance
Radiant Historia is a steampunk, time-travelling RPG created by Atlus. At least, that’s how it’s marketed. But deeper than the gearpunk, deeper than travelling through the timelines, there’s that traditional Japanese story of environmentalism mixed in with sentiments of loyalty and the general idea of good versus evil. And beyond the depth and immersion of the story is even more: brilliant character development, a challenging and satisfying battle system, a plethora of sidequests, and a gorgeous soundtrack. This is not just a successful game; this is a game that should be used as an example for what a successful RPG is really all about. (more…)
Presidents of the United States of America catch ’em all
They sat in a boggy marsh with lump, they crushed a peach in their fist and they performed a duet with Sir Mix-A-Lot. But do you believe that The Presidents of the United States of America can also catch ’em all?
The 90s alt-rock gods (in my mind at least) performed their Pokemon tribute song “Can’t Stop (Catchin’ ‘Em All)” at the Pokemon Black and White launch party this weekend in New York City. If you couldn’t make it down to the Nintendo World Store, don’t worry, we’ve got the song right here:
This is definitely one group of Presidents that I’d never want to impeach.
Bomberman Hero, Heavy Fire: Black Arms added to Wii Shop
It’s Monday and Nintendo has updated the Wii Shop Channel with two explosive games.
Blasting off first is Bomberman Hero, an N64 game that is now available on the Virtual Console. And blowing up on WiiWare is Heavy Fire: Black Arms, a light gun shooter from Teyon.
The three additions to the DSiWare service are a bit less combustible, but Gamebridge has released GO Series: Earth Saver, which is the closest thing to Armageddon The Game there’ll probably ever be. Other addition include the “platform racer” Jelly Car 2 and the swinging platformer G.G Series: Horizontal Bar.
More information on all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)
New Releases: Dragon Age II, MLB 11: The Show, MLB 2K11, More
One of 2011’s biggest releases will be hitting stores this week. Players will be able to return to the magical land of Thedas as BioWare is bringing Dragon Age II to the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
If you prefer the smell of peanuts and Crackerjack to the smell of sliced and diced dragon meat, you might want to consider this week’s double play combo of baseball games. 2K Sports will release its multiplatform Major League Baseball 2K11 on the DS, PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360 while Sony is bringing its PlayStation-exclusive MLB 11: The Show to the PS2, PS3 and PSP.
Also available this week will be the Dynasty Warriors spinoff Warriors: Legends of Troy (PS3, Xbox 360) and a new Sims 3 expansion, The Sims 3: Barnacle Bay (PC).

Bit.Trip Flux added to Wii Shop
After six successful games, CommanderVideo’s reign atop the Wii Shop Channel is finally coming to an end. Today, Gaijin Games released Bit.Trip Flux, the final entry in the retro-tinged series.
According to Gaijin, Flux brings CommanderVideo full circle and players will be faced with “new challenges that will make even the most experienced Bit.Trippers weep.”
A trio of new DSiWare games are also available to download today. You can find out more about them after the break. (more…)
New Releases: Pokemon Black/White, Fight Night Champion, Rift, More
Released in Japan last Fall, Pokemaniacs in North America have been anxiously awaiting the day that Pokemon: Black Version and Pokemon: White Version would make the jump across the Pacific. And, with the 3DS less than a month away, that day is finally upon us. Let’s hope you’re ready to catch ’em all.
If catching them all doesn’t hold any appeal for you, there are several other non-Pokemon options among this week’s new releases. There’s Fight Night Champion (PS3, Xbox 360), EA Sports’ latest reinvention of their boxing franchise; there’s Rift (PC), the first MMORPG from Trion Worlds; and there’s Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II: Retribution (PC), the newest expansion in the strategy series.
The full list of the rest of this week’s new releases can be found after the break. (more…)
