New Releases: Donkey Kong Country: Tropcial Freeze, EDF 2025, NASCAR 14, More
While Mario and Sonic have already conquered the Winter Olympics, Nintendo is ready to send another one of its beloved characters out into the snow. The normally jungle-bound Donkey Kong will get to play in the powder this week with the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropcial Freeze for the Wii U. Better pack your mittens, big guy.
A jungle of a different kind will need to be saved in D3 Publisher’s Earth Defense Force 2025. The big bugs are back and the Earth Defense Force must once again band together to save the urban jungle that is Tokyo. You can get it on the PS3 or the Xbox 360.
This week’s final new release is NASCAR 14 for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. The franchise has switched publishers from Activision to Deep Silver, but developer Eutechnyx is once again responsible for development on the racing simulation.
Finally, a pair of ports have found new homes this week. Ubisoft’s highly acclaimed Rayman Legends makes a next-generation leap to the PS4 and Xbox One. Meanwhile, WB’s Lego Marvel Super Heroes downgrades to the DS. Games for everybody!
Nintendo Download: Double Dragon, 3D Ecco, 3D Galaxy Force II, more
“You got 50,000 on Double Dragon?”
Even though it’s a silly milestone (the average player will cross 50,000 points sometime in the third level), I always felt a point of pride when I matched the performance of Fred Savage’s little brother from The Wizard. And now I get to do it all over again as the NES version of Double Dragon is now available on the Wii U eShop and the 3DS eShop. Sadly, there doesn’t appear to be any PS Store-style Cross-Buy option.
Additional titles available this week include two new title in Sega’s 3D Classics series: the dolphin adventure 3D Ecco the Dolphin and the rail shooter 3D Galaxy Force II. Naturally, both will be available through the 3DS eShop. Also set for release this week is the Two Tribes-developed puzzler Rush (Wii U eShop), and many more.
More details on all of these titles, as well as a few others, can be found after the break. (more…)
Nintendo Download: 3D Sonic, 3D Altered Beast, Donkey Kong 3, more
Do you love retro games? Then you should definitely check out this week’s Nintendo Download.
Sega has added two more games to their 3D Classics collection: 3D Sonic the Hedgehog and 3D Altered Beast. Nintendo got in on the 3DS retro act as well with Donkey Kong 3. Finally, Konami brought the Super NES favorite The Legend of The Mystical Ninja to the Wii U eShop.
More information on all of these games (as well as Brilliant Hamsters! (3DS), Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 (3DS), and Hooked on Bass Fishing (DSi)) can be found after the break. (more…)
Nintendo Download: Sega 3D Classics, Contra III, Ninja Gaiden III, more
Nintendo rests for no holiday and this week’s Nintendo Download gives us plenty to be thankful. Especially if you’re a fan of retro games.
The Wii U eShop is now home to Contra III: The Alien Wars, the NES update to everyone’s favorite side-scrolling shooter. And over on the 3DS eShop, gamers on the go can now download Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom, my favorite of the NES Ninja Gaidens. 3DS owners will also be able to download the first of Sega’s 3D Classics today as 3D Space Harrier and 3D Super Hang-On are both now available through the eShop.
Also available this week is Nintendo’s interactive Lourve app, Nintendo 3DS Guide: Louvre, Young Justice: Legacy, and a few more games you can read about after the break. (more…)
Nintendo Download: Super Mario 3D World, Zelda: Link Between Worlds, more
The big is almost here! In fact, we’re just one day away! I refer, of course, to the launch of Super Mario 3D World and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.
What did you think I was talking about?
Anyway, new entries in Nintendo’s biggest franchises will be available in stores tomorrow and digital download versions will land on, respectively, the Wii U eShop and 3DS eShop at the same time. The two massive games will also be joined by Mario Party: Island Tour, the first Mario Party game for the 3DS.
If you’re looking for a new game that’s available today, Wii U owners will also get the chance to download Edge, retro-style platformer, and Coaster Crazy Deluxe, a new coaster sim from the creators of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3.
More information on all of these games (and almost a dozen more) can be found after the break. (more…)
New Releases: PS4, XCOM: Enemy Within, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, More
Part One of this year’s next-generation console extravaganza begins this week with the launch of PlayStation 4. If you haven’t already ordered one, Sony’s new machine may be hard to find, but peripherals like the PS4 Camera are plentiful. However, if you have the next-gen plunge, here’s what gaming opportunities you can expect to see on store shelves this week:
- Angry Birds Star Wars
- Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
- Battlefield 4
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- FIFA 14
- Injustice: Gods Among Us – Ultimate Edition
- Just Dance 2014
- Killzone: Shadow Fall
- Knack
- Lego Marvel Super Heroes
- Madden NFL 25
- NBA 2K14
- Need Foe Speed: Rivals
- Skylanders Swap Force
If the next-generation of consoles is still a bit too expensive for you (or you’re waiting for the impending Xbox One launch), there’s also a few current-generation games to keep us busy this week. XCOM: Enemy Within, the expansion to last year’s massively well-received XCOM: Enemy Unknown, will be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. And the possibly final voyage of Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, will be released for the PS3. Finally, Mario & Sonic square off again in Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games on the Wii U.
There’s more new games where those came from and you can find a complete list of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)
Nintendo Download: Wii Sports Club, Toki Tori, Kid Icarus: Uprising, More
Wii Sports is back! Wii Sports Club: Tennis and Wii Sports Club: Bowling, the high definition and online-enabled remakes of the Wii’s flagship pack-in game, are now available as individual downloads. Each Wii Sports Club title is priced at $9.99, but if you’d rather not own each individual sport, Nintendo plans to also offer a Wii Sports Club “Day Pass.” Priced at $1.99, the Day Pass will give players access to all available Wii Sports Club sports for a 24-hour period. Baseball, Golf, and Boxing will be available at a later date.
Also available on the Wii U eShop today is Toki Tori. Based on the popular Game Boy Color title of the same name, Toki Tori was a puzzle platformer that was originally released before puzzle platformers were cool.
Over on the 3DS side of the store is the long-awaited digital release of Kid Icarus: Uprising. I could have sworn this happened months ago, but I guess not. If you haven’t picked up Pit’s latest adventure yet, now’s your chance to do it without leaving the house.
More details on all of these games, as well as many more (including Wario’s Woods), can be found after the break. (more…)
New Releases: CoD: Ghosts, Guided Fate Paradox, Castlevania: LoS Collection, More
You hear that? That’s the sound of freight train coming down the track. It’s got “Call of Duty: Ghosts” (PC, PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360) painted on the side and all the other publishers have gotten out of the way. Activision’s juggernaut of a franchise dominates this week’s new releases, but a few other games will find their way into stores over the next seven days.
Also available this week is The Guided Fate Paradox from NIS America. This RPG is a PS3 exclusive and, like all NIS games, it’s full of the crazy. Just how weird does it get? Well… “Players take on the role of high school student Renya Kagurazaka who has become a god by winning a lottery in a mall.”
Finally, Konami has bundled together Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (and all of its DLC) and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD into a single package on the PS3 and Xbox 360. The Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Collection also includes a playable demo of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, which is scheduled for release next year.
You can find the complete list of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)
