Super Meat Boy, The Escapists 2, Art of Fighting 2, more coming to Nintendo eShop this week
While I’m sure you’re still excited about this morning’s Nintendo Direct Mini, the consolemaker also added a handful of new titles to the Nintendo eShop today.
The ultra-hard platformer Super Meat Boy rushed ahead of the pack, and is now available for the Switch with a brand new splitscreen Race Mode. It’s joined by Mouldy Touf’s jailbreak simulator, The Escapists 2, and a re-release of 1994’s Art of Fighting 2. Finally today, a playable demo of Dragon Quest Builders, Square Enix’s upcoming action RPG, is also available to download for the Switch.
You can learn more about all of this week’s additions to the Nintendo eShop (including a few 3DS and Wii U titles) after the break. (more…)
The Count Lucanor, Planetbase, Little Red Lie, more coming to PS Store this week
Sony is easing themselves into 2018 with another short PlayStation Store update, but players will likely be talking about a handful of new games.
Vita owners now have the chance to download The Count Lucanor, a retro-styled RPG set in a spooky castle. Planetbase is a space colonization strategy game, and it’ll be available to download for the PS4 beginning Thursday. And Little Red Lie is an adventure game for the PS4 and Vita that’s built around the little half-truths that everyone tells.

Warp Zoned’s 2017 Golden Pixel Awards: A New Beginning for Video Games
When we looked over the gaming landscape at the beginning of 2017, we opined that game publishers had done their best to wipe the slate clean throughout all of 2016. Many of gaming’s most mysterious projects were finally released, Nintendo closed the door on the Wii U, the VR revolution was in full swing, and upgraded versions of the PS4 and Xbox One were on the horizon.
In these first few days of 2018, I think it’s safe to say the last 12 months definitely fulfilled that promise. Nintendo’s Switch roared out of the gate in March and the consolemaker filled the calendar with big titles on “Day One” and throughout the rest of the year. Night in the Woods, Persona 5, and Golf Story told new kinds of stories that gamers had never seen before. Cuphead delivered a decidedly retro side-scroller packaged within a unique visual playground packaged. And someone even managed to create a fun Friday the 13th game.
It was quite a year, and you can find more of our favorites from 2017 after the break. (more…)
Kirby: Battle Royale demo, Stikbold Deluxe, King of the Monsters, more added to Nintendo eShop
Nintendo is ringing in 2018 with a quartet of new additions to the Nintendo eShop, as well as a downloadable demo for Kirby: Battle Royale on the 3DS.
Beginning today, Switch owners will be able to purchase Grand Prix Rock ‘N Racing, an overhead racing game; Pic-A-Pix Deluxe, a “picture crossword” game; Stikbold! Deluxe, a dodge ball adventure with a 70s twist; and King of the Monsters, a classic fighting game from the NeoGeo’s heyday.

Tiny Metal, Vegas Party added to PS Store
It’s 2018, and the shelf stockers at the PlayStation Store are still mostly on vacation. But there’s still somebody working the registers, and a pair of new titles are now available to download through Sony’s digital storefront.
Tiny Metal, a tactical war game for the PS4 from Sony’s Unties publishing label, is one of this new week’s additions to the PlayStation Store. It’s joined by Vegas Party, a gambling game for the Vita.
You can learn more about both games right here:

Someone recreated the last five minutes of Star Wars: The Last Jedi using 16-bit graphics
Taking a blockbuster movie and recreating it in the style of a Super NES is a popular pastime for animators and artists, but this adaptation of the last five minutes of Star Wars: The Last Jedi is quite literally out of this world.
If you haven’t seen Star Wars: The Last Jedi, I implore you, don’t press that Play button.
But if you have, give it a watch and be sure to congratulate animator John Stratman and the Mr. Sunday Movies YouTube channel on a job well done.
Vs. Super Mario Bros., SteamWorld Heist, Style Savvy: Styling Star, more coming to Nintendo eShop this week
Nintendo has one more Nintendo eShop update in the works for 2017… and it’s a doozy.
This week, Nintendo and Hamster Corporation have teamed up to bring Vs. Super Mario Bros. to the Switch. This arcade adaptation of Super Mario Bros. provides a slightly different variation on the revolutionary side-scroller, and it’s an historical artifact that all Nintendo completionists should be interested in.
Also available to download for the Switch this week is a pair of side-scrollers that previously appeared on other platforms. SteamWorld Heist is a tactical shooter from Image & Form, and Guns, Gore, and Cannoli is a platformer from Crazy Monkey that mixes mobsters and the undead.
Finally, Nintendo themselves will expand their fashionista simulation series with the release of Style Savvy: Styling Star for the 3DS.
