Sony launches $15 Dual Packs for PSP this week

With the PlayStation Vita just on the horizon, Sony is still giving you reasons to stock up on PSP titles. Starting this week at retail and on the PlayStation Store, you’ll be able to grab a new line of “Dual Packs,” $15 packages containing two PSP favorites. In addition to Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow and Killzone: Liberation pictured left, you’ll be able to grab another pack containing Secret Agent Clank and Daxter, as well as one including Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs: Fireteam Bravo.

I’ve been meaning to stock up my PSP ever since the PSN came back up and it would look like now is as good a time to do it. No word on other upcoming Dual Packs, but let’s keep our fingers crossed for the rest of the SOCOM games to pop up.

New Releases: FEAR 3, Dungeon Siege III, Shadows of the Damned, More

After multiple delays, FEAR 3 will be scaring gamers on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this week. The game was developed by Day 1 Studios, who took over for original developer Monolith Soft. FEAR 3 will be joined in stores this week by another threequel that has switched developers: Dungeon Siege III (PC, PS3, Xbox 360). The Dungeon Siege series was originally created by Gas Powered Games but the third entry was developed by sequel specialists Obsidian Entertainment.

Sequels aren’t the only games releasing this week as EA will be bringing Shadows of the Damned to the PS3 and Xbox 360. A collaboration between Grasshoper Manufacture’s Suda 51 and Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, the hellbound tale will be nothing if not original. But for a complete change of pace, this week also sees the release of the movie-to-game adaptation Cars 2 (DS, PC, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360).

Check out the full list of the rest of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)

CoD Black Ops Escalation pack now on PSN

Every Call of Duty: Black Ops player can now enjoy the Escalation Map Pack as the add-on was added to the PlayStation Store today. It’s priced at $15 and includes four new maps, “Zoo,” “Convoy,” “Hotel” and “Stockpile,” along with the “Call of the Dead” Zombies map. Don’t forget, today is also the start of a Black Ops Double XP Weekend. It runs all weekend and concludes on Sunday, June 12.

PlayStation Store brings you the “best” from E3

It’s nice to be having PlayStation Store updates again, and just in time for all the E3 updates. The E3 section has HD videos for stuff we’re all excited about at the expo, like Street Fighter x Tekken, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and, of course, the PlayStation Vita. There’s also a decent amount of E3 sales for games like Assassin’s Creed 2 and Warhawk. It may have something to do with a certain sequel in the works, but all of the Modern Warfare (1 & 2) map packs are about half off, so check them out if you haven’t already.

As far as new games, there’s New Adventure Island and Soldier Blade for both PS3 and PSP at a friendly $5.99 price point, and episode four of Telltale’s Back to the Future: The Game has just dropped. While it’s not a full game, a demo for El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is out, and I strongly urge you to play it right now.

That’s about it aside from the usual suspects, although there are a couple dynamic L.A. Noire themes that I’m sure are super fancy. You can find the full update list here.

Sony @ E3 11: Jack Tretton delivers heartfelt apology

Now that the presser’s over, I wanted to add one extra thing: Sony CEO Jack Tretton’s apology. Tretton stood up on stage at the start of the press conference to address the “elephant in the room” – namely, the PlayStation Network outage. He said “you’re welcome” to the press for giving them bad news to report on, thanked both third party developers and retailers, and gave a heartfelt message to PlayStation fans. “It is you that both causes us to be humble and amazed in the dedication and support you give the PlayStation brand,” Tretton said.

Aww. We <3 you too, Jack. And for the record, I loved your tie.
