PixelJunk Shooter 2, Vagrant Story added to PlayStation Store
Q-Games’ manic shooting series returns to the PS3 in this week’s PlayStation Store update. PixelJunk Shooter 2 promises to be bigger than the first game with plenty of new weapons and new levels.
Also available this week, on the PSon Classics store, is the Square Enix RPG Vagrant Story. Like most JRPGs from the PSone era, Vagrant Story has been a nightmare to find on the used market, so its great to see its inclusion as a PSone Classic.
Finally, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be getting a quartet of free games this week including the first Sega Genesis Classic, Sonic the Hedgehog. Another classic game, this one a PSone Classic, going free this week is Spyro: Year of the Dragon.
Also available this week for Plus subscribers is a full-game sneak peek at two upcoming PSP Minis. There’s the retro-themed platformer Pix’n Love Rush from Sanuk Games and the puzzle game Enigmo from Beatshapers.
More information on this week’s new releases can be found after the break and details on all of this week’s game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation.Blog. (more…)
Vagrant Story joining Square Enix’s PSOne Classics tomorrow
If you’ve been watching Warp Zoned over the last week or so, you’ve probably seen me geek out about all the awesome content Square Enix has been bringing to the PlayStation Store. Xenogears made the transition last week, Parasite Eve got an ESRB rating to do the same, and Tactics Ogre got a digital PSN release for the PSP. Now, they’re re-releasing another legendary title from the same team behind Tactics Ogre. Vagrant Story, which is estimated to take place some time after Final Fantasy Tactics and thousands of years after Final Fantasy XII, is finally coming to the US PlayStation Store as a PSOne Classic. Already released on the European PlayStation Store a few months ago, Vagrant Story is an action RPG/dungeon crawler, noted for its beautiful music and heavy focus on weapon customization. Highly immersive, it’s also known as one of the harder Square games from the golden age of PlayStation RPG’s.
While Vagrant Story may be less of a surprise than Parasite Eve or Xenogears, this is certainly an exciting time for classic RPG fans. Anyone wanna take bets on the next one? I’ll be hoping for Dragon Quest VII. Let us know in the comments which classic Square Enix game you’d like to see next.
Square Enix keeps it up, Parasite Eve likely joining PSOne Classics
Square Enix has been on quite a roll lately. After reinstating digital PSP downloads on the PlayStation Store with Tactics Ogre and re-releasing the elusive and legendary Xenogears as a PSOne Classic, another masterpiece from Square’s golden age is joining Sony’s retro corner. Parasite Eve recently received an ESRB rating for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable (the two platforms you can bring your PSOne Classics on), likely M for Mature as it was when it originally released on the PlayStation in 1998.
Parasite Eve followed in the footsteps of Final Fantasy VII, innovating the cinematic RPG sub genre, popularizing the use of FMV cutscenes and intense set pieces. A new entry in the series, The 3rd Birthday, is coming March 29 on the PSP.

The Next Level: The Games of March 2011
Ah, March. You’re coming in like a lion, all right… but you’re going out like one, too. Not only are there a ton of awesome games coming out, but there’s also the highly anticipated arrival of Nintendo’s new handheld hardware, the 3DS. More than a few franchises are getting new chapters this month, too. The Warp Zoned staff got together to share what games and tech they’re most looking forward to in March. (more…)
Sony drums up Patapon 3’s release on April 12
Just pretend for a second that you’ve had enough of the war drums, armies of little doodle-y heroes, and rhythmic button combinations. Okay, now think logically, because there is no such thing as ‘enough.’ Sony knows this, and acknowledges the success of the last two Patapon games with Patapon 3, due out on PSP UMD and PSN April 12th.
Players will take form of the “Uberhero Patapon,” a symbiosis between your character – The Mighty One – and a fallen Patapon soldier. Though the game promises to be quite similar to the last two Patapon adventures, Patapon 3’s development team strived to incorporate feedback received from the players of Patapon 3’s beta.
Personally, I can’t wait to push Square, Square, Square, Circle, and get a move on with my Uberhero Patapon!
Whatcha gonna do when the complete WWE All-Stars roster runs wild on you?
IGN has completed their two part unveiling of the complete WWE All-Stars roster with an additional seven Legends, eight Superstars and six more DLC wrestlers. These 15 wrestlers join the 15 wrestlers announced last week to give the full roster a grand total of 30 fighters.
As with last week’s reveal, IGN uploaded new screenshots and video of each wrestler, giving us a very in-depth look at the game.
So we know who made the final cut and we know that The Big Bossman, Chris Jericho, Jerry “The King” Lawler, Michael Hayes, Mark Henry and R-Truth will be added to WWE All-Stars at a future date through a DLC expansion pack. We also know that Howard Finkel and Paul Bearer will be included in the game as “non-wrestling talent.”
So with all out of the way, jump off the top rope for a look at the second half of the WWE All-Stars roster. (more…)
Dissidia 012 pre-order bonuses unlock alternate costumes for Cloud and Tifa
The pre-order bonuses for Tetsuya Nomura’s latest assault on logical game titles, Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy, have been detailed, and offer new costumes for two of the series’ most beloved characters.
Fans of Kingdom Hearts will be pleased to know that Cloud’s darker iteration in the Final Fantasy/Disney cross-over will be available via download code when you pre-order the game from GameStop. Amazon junkies will be able to unlock an “enforcer” costume for Tifa Lockheart from Final Fantasy VII, based on illustration’s by the beloved series character designer Yoshitaka Amano. As Nomura designed the characters for FFVII, not Amano, the costume is somewhat of a cool “what if” for more die hard connoisseurs.
Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy will be available on March 22 for the PSP. No news if Square’s recent attention to the PSN will lead to a digital release, but the last Dissidia was available on the PlayStation Store.
