New Releases: Dead Space 2, Two Worlds II, Lord of Arcana, More

If no one in space can hear you scream, then you’d be forgiven for not knowing that Electronic Arts plans to release Dead Space 2 this week. Of course, if the necromorphs infected you with a desire for more Dead Space after one of their previous games, you’re likely bouncing off the walls of your home as if there wasn’t any gravity inside.

A pair of RPGs round out the rest of the major new releases this week. Square Enix will be bringing action RPG Lord of Arcana to the PSP while SouthPeak Interactive will be bringing Two Worlds II to the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The full list of the rest of this week’s new releases can be found after the break. (more…)

Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy coming March 22

The title of Dissidia 012 [duodecim]: Final Fantasy has been giving gamers the fits ever since it was announced. But now we finally know when we’ll get to play it as Square Enix has revealed the PSP fighter will be released on March 22.

The prequel will feature the return of every character from Dissidia: Final Fantasy along with new characters Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII), Kain (Final Fantasy IV) and Tifa (Final Fantasy VII). Square Enix has promised that “many other new faces” will also make an appearance in Dissidia 012, possibly in the game’s new “Assist” feature.

Among the characters we already know about, many of them will be voiced by some familiar names as the cast includes Rachael Leigh Cook as Tifa, Keith David as Chaos, Steve Burton as Cloud Strife, George Newbern as Sephiroth and Ali Hillis as Lightning. According to Square Enix, they won’t be the only ones as “numerous past voice actors have also returned to once again bring their characters to life.”

I’m not sure who came up with the name for this event, but Square Enix is delivering the goods on their biggest titles today at their 1st Production Department Premier event. Happening this morning (or night) in Tokyo, the event has come with goodies like an incredible new Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer, and the announcement of, yep, Final Fantasy XIII-2 (which is coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360). Activision taps Beenox to develop future Spider-Man games

As Spider-Man Uncle Ben always said, “With great power, comes great responsibility.” So it seems rather fitting that Activision is about to bestow great power and great responsibility on Beenox, the developer of last Fall’s Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

The megapublisher has announced that Beenox has been named the primary developer on upcoming games starring the superhero. While Activision didn’t go into specifics about the wallcrawler’s next video game adventure, an investor’s call in November revealed a new Spider-Man game is in the works for a 2011 release.

For their part, executives at Beenox and Activision seem excited about the arrangement.

“Beenox’s creative vision reinvigorated the Spider-Man gaming experience among critics and fans in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions,” said Patrick Kelly, Senior Vice President, Activision Studios. “We can’t wait to see where this talented studio will take this franchise in the future.”

“We are thrilled with this opportunity to continue our close, collaborative relationship with Activision, Marvel and everyone’s friendly, neighborhood hero, Spider-Man,” said Dee Brown, Studio Head, Beenox. “Being able to map out Spider-Man’s interactive future gives us the creative freedom to really craft the best gaming experience for the fans.”
