Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, DOA5 Plus, Dollar Dash, more added to PS Store
Welcome to yet another weekly update of the PlayStation Store. This week, it’s all about the fight.
Activision has added The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, their first-person shooter based on the AMC show (which was based on the comic), to the PlayStation Store. Also available this week is Dollar Dash, a Bomberman-like multiplayer game that substitutes bags of cash for bombs. And then throws in a few bombs just to be on the safe side.
In classic gaming releases, this week sees the release of the next installment in the Capcom Arcade Cabinet, Capcom Arcade Cabinet: 1986 Pack, as well as the PSone Classic Hogs of War.
Over on the portable side of things, Dead or Alive 5 Plus and Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland Plus have both been added to the Vita store. And on the PSP store, Carnage Heart EXA is now available (that’s right, there’s a new PSP game today!).
More details on this week’s new releases can be found after the break and a full rundown of this week’s new game add-ons is available at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)
Dead Space 3 slices up the competition in February 2013 NPD report
Do you remember that rumor about Dead Space 3‘s poor sales? Yeah… apparently that was a load of space garbage. The action horror title was officially crowned the best-selling retail game of February 2013 by retail tracking firm The NPD Group.
New releases Crysis 3, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and the troubled launch of Aliens: Colonial Marines also landed spots in the top ten.

THQ plans to sell off Darksiders, Red Faction, Homeworld, more in May
The THQ sell-off will continue this Spring as the publisher has announced that four major franchises will go up for auction as well as two compilations of lesser franchises.
Darksiders (which went unsold at the initial THQ auction), Red Faction, Homeworld, and the MX racing franchise have all been put on the block by THQ. The company will also sell the rights to a package of original properties (including Big Beach Sports, Destroy All Humans!, Summomner, and others) and a package of licensed games (Marvel Super Hero, Supreme Commander, Worms, and others). A new owner for each franchise will be chosen sometime in May.
If you’ve ever wanted to own a formerly top-selling video game franchise, you should get in touch with THQ by emailing them at auction@thq.com by April 1. But be aware, you’ll be expected to show proof of funds in case your bid is selected by the creditors committee.
Of course, how much could something like Destroy All Humans! (which, admittedly, I love) actually go for?
PSN Today: Crysis 3, Capcom Arcade Cabinet: 1987, Patapon 3, More
This week’s PlayStation Store update was a bit late on the upload, but I suppose Sony can be forgiven. After all, tomorrow is a big day for the consolemaker.
The big new addition in today’s update is definitely Crysis 3. Crytek’s first person shooter series returns to the PS3 with a new locale (Rainforest New York City!) and a wild new weapon (The Predator Bow!). It can yours for the standard new game price of $59.99.
Also available this week is the first installment in the Capcom Arcade Cabinet. The “1987 Pack” includes 1943: Battle of Midway, Black Dragon, and Avengers.
Finally, portable players will be happy to know that the Vita game Patapon 3 and two PSP games, Hakuoki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi and Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection, are available to download now.
A complete list of this week’s new games can be found after the break and a complete list of this week’s new game add-ons (including Skyrim‘s “Hearthfire” content) can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)
Ni No Kuni, The Cave, Just Dance 4, Dust 514, Disgaea 2, more added to PS Store
It’s another big week for Sony’s PlayStation Store this week.
This week’s big new release is Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, Level-5’s collaboration with Studio Ghibli that has locked JRPG aficionados into a frenzy. And speaking of collaborations, adventure game The Cave marks the first team-up of Ron Gilbert and Double Fine Productions.
What else, what else… Today is the first day of the Dust 514 open beta and the PS2 Classic Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories has been added to the store to go with last week’s addition of the first game. Finally, Ubisoft has added a download version of Just Dance 4 to the PlayStation Store.
Hit the jump for more information on this week’s new releases (including Ninja Gaiden Sigma and a new PSP game) and check out the PlayStation Blog for an overview of this week’s new game add-ons. (more…)
PSN Today: DMC, Angry Birds Trilogy, Corpse Party 2, Siren, Disgaea
Sony has added five games to the PlayStation Store and… you’ll never believe it… one of them is a PSP game!
Corpse Party: Book of Shadows comes to Sony’s other handheld and “expands and elaborates” on the 2011 horror game. If you like adventure games and you haven’t upgraded to a Vita yet (or even if you have), it might be one to check out. Also available this week is two very different PS3 games focused on total destruction.
DMC: Devil May Cry is a fast-paced prequel to Dante’s battle against the demonic hordes. There’s gunplay and swordplay and other playful methods of giving a boot to the face of the denizens of Hell. On the other hand, Angry Birds Trilogy is all about flinging fat birds at even fatter pigs and destroying their houses. And you don’t even have to huff or puff.
Finally this week is a pair of PS2 classics. The underrated (but loved by many) Siren and the underrated (but loved by many) Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.
More information on all of these games can be found after the break and a complete overview of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)
CoD Black Ops II was the best-selling game of December 2012
For the second straight month, Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II stands tall as the best-selling game of the month, per The NPD Group’s December 2012 report.
The first person shooter fended off a bevy of sequels including the rest of the top five: Just Dance 4, Halo 4, Assassin’s Creed III, and Madden NFL 13. In fact, not a single non-sequel cracked the top ten last month.
Once again, The NPD Group is reporting (via Game Informer) that game sales and console sales are down relative to 2011 (which was itself down from 2010). Of course, the NPD Group’s inability to track sales of downloadable games makes this statistic less than helpful.
The full top ten from last month can be found after the break. (more…)
