Call of Duty: Black Ops II nukes the competition in November 2012 NPD report
Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Halo 4 set records in November 2012. The Wii U also opened strong with sales of over 400,000 consoles. And the Christmas rush resulted in big numbers for new releases like Assassin’s Creed III, Just Dance 4, and Need For Speed: Most Wanted. But that still didn’t stop The NPD Group from reporting that retail game sales dropped 11% from November 2011.
“Despite an overall retail video game decline of 11 percent, November had the smallest year-over-year decrease we have seen for dollar and unit sales so far this year. This is a sign of momentum going into the December holiday period,” said NPD analyst Liam Callahan.
You can view the complete top ten from last month after the break, and remember, despite what The NPD Group says, the console game market is still in good shape. (more…)
Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, Sega fighters added to PS Store
We’ve got a slightly subdued PlayStation Store update this week as only seven games were added to the service.
Leading things off is the latest Ratchet & Clank game, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault. You know, I think using a double entendre as the title of a platformer that is basically for kids will never get old.
Also available this week is a trio Sega-published fighting games from the 1990s. All three games were developed by the company’s AM2 internal studio and they all should conjure up some good memories: Fighting Vipers, Sonic the Fighters, and Virtua Fighter 2.
Rounding out this week’s new releases is Men In Black: Alien Crisis (just in time for Men In Black 3‘s Blu-ray/DVD debut), Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, and the PSP game Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension.
More information on all of these games can be found after the break. And a complete list of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)
Just Stop! Consoles Are NOT Headed For a Crash
When the Internet decides to collectively believe something that’s just not true, we have to cry out… Just Stop! This is what’s making a Warp Zoned editor rip his computer from the wall in frustration today…
Over the last few weeks, you’ve probably seen more than a few articles bemoaning the financial health of the retail games sector. Analysts and journalists have been carrying on about how this is the end of the line. That even with a generational jump looming, the gaming community has abandoned disc-based games for their iGadgets and their free-to-play Facebook counterparts.
No! Just Stop! YOU. ARE. WRONG. (more…)
Be thankful for a PSN update including Epic Mickey 2, PS All-Stars, Family Guy, more
PS3, Vita, and PSP owners will have a lot to be thankful for this week as Sony has added more than a dozen games to the PlayStation Store in an attempt to steal some of your Black Friday dollars.
Leading the way are a trio of PS3 Full Games that includes mascot brawler PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, artistic sequel Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, and the cartoonish chaos of Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse. PlayStation All-Stars is also available to download on the Vita.
But there’s even more to be thankful for, including…
- The final episode of Telltale’s The Walking Dead adaptation, “No Time Left.”
- Doom Classic Complete, a PS3 compilation that includes Ultimate Doom, Doom II (plus “The Master Levels”), and Final Doom.
- A Vita-exclusive remake of Persona 4, subtitled “Golden.”
- The wild Grasshopper Manufacture shoot ’em up Sine Mora (on PSN and Vita).
- The Vita remake of Sega’s cult classic, Jet Set Radio.
And that’s still not everything that was added to the PlayStation Store yesterday. You can hint the break for more information on every new release or visit the PlayStation Blog for a list of this week’s new game add-ons. (more…)
NBA 2K13 slams it home as the bestselling game of October 2012
The NPD Group has released their report on the bestselling games of October 2012 and NBA 2K13 has come out on top. The basketball sim’s lack of competition from the now-canceled NBA Live 13 surely pushed it to greater heights and enabled it to hold off other October releases like Resident Evil 6 (#2), Pokemon Black 2 (#3), Dishonored (#4), and Pokemon White 2 (#5).
New releases performed very well in October as Medal of Honor: Warfighter (#8) and Skylanders Giants (#10) also cracked the top ten even though game sales dropped 25% from October 2011. Of course, things like that happen when you’re competing with the one-two punch of Battlefield 3 and Batman: Arkham City.
The full top ten for October 2012 can be found after the break. (more…)

This week’s PSN Games include both ToeJam & Earl titles, Absolute Supercars, Pid, and the PS3/Vita Cross-Buyy game When Vikings Attack!
More information on all of these games (as well as a new PS Mini, PS2 Classic, and PSP game) can be found after the break. And as always, the complete list of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)
