Zelda Wii U is officially The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild… here’s the new trailer
After years of teasing, Nintendo officially unveiled The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild today at the E3 Expo, and the “open-air” game looks like everything we could have ever hoped for.
The three-minute clip gives us plenty of clues about the amount of freedom Link will have this time around. He’ll be able to climb mountains and soar off into the sky with a glider. He’ll also be able to run through fields and chop down the mightiest of forests. And he can go swimming and manipulate the environment to confuse enemies.
And all of these new tricks will be needed to discover why Hyrule became a “ruined kingdom”:
Step into a world of discovery, exploration and adventure in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a boundary-breaking new game in the acclaimed series. Travel across fields, through forests and to mountain peaks as you discover what has become of the ruined kingdom of Hyrule in this stunning open-air adventure.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released for the Wii U and NX sometime in 2017.
Just Dance 2017 is dancing its way to every platform this October (and the NX next year)
The Just Dance franchise just can’t stop, and Ubisoft announced the next entry in the series will be available this October. Just Dance 2017 will be released for the… deep breath… PS3, PS4, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. But wait, there’s more. Just Dance 2017 will be available for the PC as well, a first for the franchise, and it’ll also be released for Nintendo’s NX console next year.
Just Dance 2017 will feature the brand new Just Dance Machine mode on the PC, PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One, which Ubisoft said is a “fun and frantic dance experience that will have players testing their skills through a variety of dance types including flamenco, ballet, and the cancan.” Returning modes include Sweat + Playlists, Just Dance Quest, Just Dance TV, and World Dance Floor.
But what will players bust a move to this year? The first 11 confirmed songs include:
- Justin Bieber – “Sorry”
- Psy (featuring CL of 2NE1) – “Daddy”
- Sia (featuring Sean Paul) – “Cheap Thrills”
- Major Lazer (featuring MØ & DJ Snake) – “Lean On”
- Fifth Harmony (featuring Kid Ink) – “Worth It”
- Queen – “Don’t Stop Me Now”
- Hatsune Miku – “PoPiPo”
- Dyro & Dannic – “Radical”
- Maluma – “El Tiki”
- Equinox Stars – “September”
- Ultraclub 90 – “What Is Love”
Ubisoft will also release a Gold Edition of Just Dance 2017, which features a three-month subscription to the Just Dance Unlimited streaming service. And the PC, PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One versions of the game will once again be compatible with the Controller App for smartphones.
Gameplay videos for all 11 confirmed tracks can be found after the break. (more…)
Beautiful new Legend of Zelda Wii U/NX artwork posted by Amazon
We know that Nintendo plans to broadcast their first in-depth look at The Legend of Zelda Wii U/NX on Tuesday at noon (Eastern Time), but Amazon managed to get their hands on a beautiful new piece of artwork for the game a few days early. Let’s take a look, shall we…
Rock climbing has never been part of the Legend of Zelda franchise before, but there’s Link, scaling a rockface with quiver in tow. But what I find most interesting is the image’s similarities to the NES-era Legend of Zelda map. A church stands in the lower left, with the Master Sword hidden in the grounds nearby. Beyond the church lies some kind of temple, and even further into the distance stands a foreboding volcano that might just be Death Mountain.
We’ll learn a lot more about The Legend of Zelda Wii U/NX this week during the E3 Expo, and the world will finally get the chance to play the game sometime next year when it launches for the Wii U and NX.
New Retail Releases: Minecraft Wii U Edition, Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition
E3 week is almost upon us, and you know what that means…
Since most game publishers won’t release new games during E3 week, those that followed the tradition have ensured today’s “New Retail Releases” report will be quite short. But Microsoft decided to buck the trend, and will release a pair of games this week that were previously available only as digital downloads.
First up, the consolemaker’s Mojang division will release Minecraft: Wii U Edition for the… wait for it… Wii U. Minecraft’s Wii U Edition is the same virtual playground that we all know and love, but it’ll include the Super Mario Mash-up Pack expansion, which adds Mario-themed characters, textures, and music to the game.
Also available this week is Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition, an enhanced and expanded version of the well-received “MetroidVania” for the PC and Xbox One. Players will still be able to guide young Ori through the forest of Nibel, but the Definitive Edition will add new areas, new abilities, more story sequences, and multiple difficulty modes to the game.
That’s it for now, but we’ll be back soon with a round-up of this week’s additions to the PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, and Nintendo eShop.
Nintendo Download… Kirby: Planet Robobot, Wario: Master of Disguise, more
This week’s Nintendo Download is all about battling aliens in a giant mech suit, battling TV monsters with a shape-shifting wand, and going on a grand old fantasy adventure.
Kirby: Planet Robobot will be available to download for the 3DS tomorrow, and it takes Kirby to some strange new places. If you can believe it, Nintendo’s pink puffball is going up against an alien invasion. But don’t worry, he’s stolen a mech suit and is ready to punch those aliens in the face with a pneumatically-powered fist!
Jumping over to the Wii U eShop, we can catch up with one of Wario’s older adventures this week through the Virtual Console. Wario: Master of Disguise was originally released for the DS in 2007, and it’s a side-scrolling platformer where Mario’s on-again/off-again nemesis steals a shape-shifting wand and uses it to battle monsters in his TV. That Wario, he gets around.
Finally this week, the fantasy adventure The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is now available to download for the Wii U. Filled with the franchise’s “trademark humor that lovingly spoofs your favorite fantasy worlds,” The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 should certainly please adventure game fans.
More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)
Here’s an E3 2016 trailer for Yooka-Laylee… but Playtonic pushed it back to Early 2017
Playtonic Games is hard at work on Yooka-Laylee, their loving tribute to the “Collect-Em-Ups” of the late 90s/early 2000s like Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64. But it looks like that hard work is going to take a little more time, as Playtonic has confirmed Yooka-Laylee won’t be released this October as originally planned. Instead, the developer revealed (on their official website) that it’ll be released for the PC, PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One early next year:
While we felt confident we could ship the game in October as originally projected in our Kickstarter, the Playtonic team has decided that it would prefer to add a few extra months’ polish to the game schedule.
Ultimately, this will allow us to deliver a better game to the tens-of-thousands of you who’ve supported us throughout development. And that’s what we all want, right?
While Yooka-Laylee is a bit further away now than it was before, Playtonic plans to bring their work-in-progress game to next week’s E3 Expo, so we should learn more about it soon. In the meantime, you can check out the game’s E3 trailer, which has been embedded above.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night backers will get access to the E3 demo… and everybody else gets a new trailer
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is still almost a year away, but Koji “IGA” Igarashi is ready to give fans and friends a look at the game’s first level in a new trailer. Here’s what he had to say about the video in Bloodstained’s latest Kickstarter update (which also includes some new screenshots):
For this month’s update, the team has put together a video and some screenshots of an actual stage in Bloodstained. This is the game’s first stage, where we find Miriam on a ship, the Galleon Minerva, headed toward the castle. It’s a setting filled with anticipation.
Igarashi, and his team at Inti Creates, are planning to debut the first demo for Bloodstained at next week’s E3 Expo. But you won’t need to sneak into Los Angeles Convention Center to get your hands on it… everyone who pledged at least $60 during the game’s Kickstarter campaign will receive access to the demo through Steam.
If all continues to go well for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the side-scrolling MetroidVania should be released for the PC, PS4, Vita, Wii U, and Xbox One sometime next Spring.
New Retail Releases: Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, Kirby Planet Robobot, Odin Sphere HD, More
You’ve gotta have Faith in this week’s new retail releases, because the star of Mirror’s Edge is back.
Eight years after her first adventure, Faith is back in Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst, a prequel/reboot for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Players will return to the city of Glass and use their first-person freerunning skills to climb skyscrapers and battle the oppressive government.
Another underdog is back on store shelves this week as Nintendo plans to release Kirby: Planet Robobot for the 3DS. Standing up to an alien invasion, Kirby will pilot a battle mech and blast his way through dozens of stages to take back Dream Land.
Also this week, Atlus and Vanillaware have teamed up to produce Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir, an HD remake of 2007’s Odin Sphere, for the PS4, PS3, and Vita. The side-scrolling action RPG includes five playable characters and a unique take on Norse mythology.
Finally this week, Koei Tecmo will release Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book, the 17th game in the Atelier series of RPGs, for the PS4, and Arc System Works will launch Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator, the latest game in the 2D fighting series, for the PS4 and PS3.
A few other games will also make their way onto store shelves this week, and you can find the complete list after the break. (more…)
