New Retail Releases: Destiny 2, Monster Hunter Stories, Knack II, More

Destiny had a bit of a rocky start after its launch in 2014, but the shooter also built up a dedicated fanbase that only grew after Bungie released a series of expansions in the years that followed. And now, we’re finally ready for Destiny 2, which will be released for the PS4 and Xbox One on Wednesday, September 6. Destiny 2 is on track to be quite a bit larger than its predecessor, and Bungie has promised that players will get to explore a brand new story, along with new modes and maps.

If you’re looking to upgrade your PS4, Sony and Bungie have also teamed up to release the PS4 Pro 1TB + Destiny 2 Bundle this week.

A more portable, but no less small, adventure will also launch this week for the 3DS. Capcom will bring Monster Hunter Stories to the platform, in a new game that combines traditional monster-hunting with RPG-like story elements. Colorful monsters can also be found in Knack II, a sequel to Sony’s launch-era platformer.

Fans of Japanese oddities will have two new games to choose from this week from Atlus and Aksys. Atlus will release Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth, a strategy RPG, for the PS4 and Vita. Meanwhile, Aksys will launch Drive Girls, an action game where schoolgirls who can turn into cars battle monsters.

Finally this week, two games that were previously released on other consoles will join the Nintendo Switch’s library… WB Games’s sandbox-style Lego Worlds and MLBAM’s retro-style RBI Baseball 2017.

PS Store This Week: Uncharted Lost Legacy, Madden NFL 18, Thimbleweed Park, more

It’s yet another big week for the PlayStation Store, and Naughty Dog is leading the way with a new Uncharted adventure and the return of Jak & Daxter.

Nathan Drake is taking a well-earned (and possibly permanent) vacation, but Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross will help PS4 fans get used to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Players will venture out in search of the Golden Tusk of Ganesh, but they’ll have to contend with a “ruthless warmonger” who also wants the prized artifact. The developer will also add Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy to the PlayStation Store this week as a PS2-On-PS4 re-release.

To football fans, a Super Bowl Ring might be the ultimate treasure, and PS4 owners will get the chance to reach the big game this week in Madden NFL 18. New features this year include a revamped visual presentation and the “Longshot” Story Mode (starring Oscar winner Mahershala Ali).

Elsewhere on the PlayStation Store, a trio of indie developers have added new titles to the digital storefront. PS4 owners will be able to investigate a murder in Ron Gilbert’s Thimbleweed Park, cast spells in Borealys Games’s Mages of Mystralia, and escape from a new set of prisons in Team17’s The Escapists 2.

Finally this week, Codemasters is back with another racing simulation, F1 2017, and Bandai Namco has remastered the entire Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm trilogy for the PS4. Also, Telltale is teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy once again in Episode 3: More Than A Feeling.

PS Store This Week: Agents of Mayhem, Sonic Mania, Undertale, more

It may be Summertime outside, but you wouldn’t know it after this week’s PlayStation Store update.

Today’s biggest new release is Agents of Mayhem, a new open world game for the PS4 from Volition. Set within the same universe as the Saints Row series, Agents of Mayhem will attempt to parody the current crop of superhero films as well as Saturday morning cartoons from the 80s. If you’d prefer to build big, Paradox Interactive will bring Cities: Skylines to the PS4 this week. The city-building sim will allow players to “manage the city of [their] dreams” as they design and build their own metropolis.

Aksys Games will embiggen one of their games this week with a PS4 re-release for Zero Time Dilemma on Friday. Originally released for the Vita last year, this console-ready version of the game will include high definition graphics.

Sega is also going big this week… but they’re doing it by shrinking down. The publisher has enlisted a team of indie developers to create Sonic Mania, a new side-scroller for the PS4 that pays homage to Sonic’s past.

Speaking of indie developers, a slew of teams got the chance to make the PlayStation Store a cozier place this week. PS4 owners can look forward to finding Undertale (also on the Vita), Tokyo 42, Matterfall, Nidhogg 2, and Night Trap: 25th Anniversary Edition on the digital storefront.

Finally this week, Telltale will check in with Jesse and friends in Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 – Episode 2: Giant Consequences.

You can learn more about all of these titles (and a few other new releases) after the break. (more…)
