New Releases: The Sims 3 Supernatural, Everyone Sing

We have to endure one more week of the slow Summer season before the Fall avalache covers us all in a blanket of new games.

But for fans of The Sims, this week sees the release of The Sims 3: Supernatural. The sppoky expansion adds witches, wizards, werewolves, vampires, and fairies to the Sims world as magical spells and shuffling zombie hordes.

Also available this week is Everyone Sing, which is being released for the Wii, the PS3, and the Xbox 360.

New Releases: Madden NFL 13, Ratchet & Clank Collection, God of War Saga, More

Summer is almost over, but that just means there’s still one more week for publishers to put out a few more Summer games.

An August tradition, this week’s biggest new release is Madden NFL 13. The EA Sports mainstay will make it to the Xbox 360, PS3, Vita, and Wii this week, with a Wii U version scheduled for release later this year.

Also available this week is a quartet of Sony-published PS3 collections including the Ratchet & Clank Collection (which is available on the PS3 for the first time), the God of War Saga, the InFamous Collection, and the Journey: Collector’s Edition.

Finally, peripheral maker Mad Catz has jumped into the game publishing business with Damage Inc: Pacific Squadron WWII for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Wait, I almost forgot one… Sandman: Whispered Stories, a budget PC title, is also new in stores this week.

Nintendo Download: Vector Racing, Metal Slug X, Abyss

Nintendo is going way back in time with today’s additions to the Nintendo Download services.

The title of this week’s headline title, Vector Racing, says it all… It’s a racing game that uses old school vector graphics! Well slap me silly and call me Jeff Bridges! You can download it from the 3DS eShop now.

Here’s what else Nintendo has on offer this week:

Vector Racing (3DS eShop) – Enjoy a new, high-speed racing game that recalls the video games of yore. Use one of six different machines to race across 12 courses — some easy, some insane — in four different modes.

Metal Slug X (Wii Virtual Console) – This game is based on Metal Slug 2, but adds the new “Iron Lizard” and “Drop Shot” weapons. It also adds many new enemies and allows players to adjust the game’s difficulty level by changing the position of bosses and other things.

Abyss (DSiWare) – Your mission will be to find the “Gaia” energy stones by exploring the depths. To do so, you must control Nep2no by counteracting gravity and the surrounding darkness with the aid of a Light that will go out little by little.

Nintendo Power will shut down this December

Living in an age of instantaneous and free information has brought with it an unparalleled level of enlightenment across the globe, but it does have a downside… and its victims… namely, the hard copy press. Yesterday, Nintendo announced that their long-running official magazine, Nintendo Power, would be hanging up its joypad with its December 2012 issue.

The house of Mario released the following statement concerning the magazine, which was originally published in-house by Nintendo before they gave the rights to Future Publishing’s US arm in 2007:

Nintendo can confirm that Future US will end the production of Nintendo Power magazine with the last issue slated for December 2012. For Nintendo Power subscription inquiries, please visit nintendopower.com/customerservice.

The demise of Nintendo Power comes only after a year after another high profile gaming magazine, GamePro, was forced to close after its new quarterly format was poorly received. And as we languish in our nostalgia of excitedly reading gaming magazines and adorning our walls with their posters, we wish the employees of Nintendo Power the best with whatever the future holds for them.

This is the complete Just Dance 4 soundtrack

The full track list for Just Dance 4 has been revealed, and I have a feeling people are going to be excited that it’s a boatload of songs that are impossible to get out of your head once you’ve heard them. “Call Me Maybe” will be in it, and I sincerely hope the dude in this Chat Roulette video has the game on pre-order as a result of that.

In addition to over 40 new songs, Just Dance 4 has a Battle Mode, unlockable Alternate Choreographies, and an expanded “Just Sweat” Mode. The Wii U version also has exclusive features, including Puppet Master Mode, which allows the player with the Wii U GamePad to switch up the routines on the other players. Sounds slightly sadistic!

Just Dance 4 will be out on October 9 for the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360, with a planned launch release on the Wii U. Hit the jump for the complete song list. (more…)

NCAA Football 13 is the bestselling game of July 2012

The NPD Group has released their list of the ten bestselling games of July 2012 and, surprising no one, NCAA Football 13 took the top spot.

The football sim was the only new release from the month of July to crack the top ten, but to be fair, there weren’t very many games released last month. Instead, the top ten is populated by holdovers like Lego Batman 2, The Amazing Spider-Man, and two Call of Duty games (Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3). According to Joystiq, this motley crew could only manage sales of $260.7 million, a 23% drop from July 2011’s take of $338.5 million.

The full top ten is available after the break. (more…)
