XBL Store Today: 1001 Spikes, Blood of the Werewolf
Two retro-style platformers made their way to the Xbox Live Game Store today.
Nicalis’ 1001 Spikes is a punishing platformer for the Xbox One that gives players 1,001 lives right from the start. And players will need them all to traverse the spikes, pits, and enemies that will challenge adventurer Aban Hawkins behind the Golden Door of Poko-Mum.
Also available this week is Blood of the Werewolf, a “love letter to classic platformers” from Scientifically Proven and Midnight City. Blood of the Werewolf was released for the PC earlier this year and now it’s found it’s way to the Xbox 360.
More details about both games can be found after the break. (more…)
Nintendo Download: Tomodachi Life, 1001 Spikes, Zelda: Minish Cap, more
Welcome to this week’s Nintendo Download, which brings with it the news that the company’s Mii-filled life simulator, Tomodachi Life, will be available to download from the 3DS eShop beginning tomorrow.
Starting today, Nintendo’s handheld will be home to 1001 Spikes, a demanding side-scroller that gives players 1001 lives to complete its many treacherous levels. For those who would prefer to play it on a big screen, 1001 Spikes was also released for the Wii U as well. If you’d prefer to load up a classic 2D game on your Wii U, Nintendo has also added The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap to the eShop.
More information on all of these games (as well as a few other titles launching this week) can be found after the break. (more…)
Murdered: Soul Suspect, PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate, 1001 Spikes, more added to PS Store
The release calendar for June is a bit bare, but thankfully, Sony came through with a batch of quirky new downloads in the first PlayStation Store update of the month.
The supernatural detective story Murdered: Soul Suspect is this week’s biggest new release. Available for both the PS3 and PS4, the game follows the recently departed Ronan O’Connor as he attempts to track down his murderer, a serial killer known as The Bell Killer. It’s joined by four other PS4 releases including the free-to-play World War II sim, War Thunder; the latest game in the Worms franchise, Worms Battlegrounds; an enhanced version of the fourth PixelJunk game, PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate; and the latest brutal platformer, 1001 Spikes. Those last two are also available as PS4/Vita Cross-Buy games, so you can also take them on the go.
One other PS3 game was added to the PS Store this week and it’s Don Bradman Cricket 14. I’m not entirely sure, but it might be the first cricket game ever released in North America. If I cared in the slightest about cricket, I’d do some research and find out for sure.
Finally, the Vita is now home to a Sony-produced pet simulator, PlayStation Vita Pets, and a diva simulator known as Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection. Don’t let your real dog and American Idol know you’ve been cheating on them.
More information about all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)
1001 Spikes will be released for 3DS, PC, PS4, Vita, and Wii U next week
1001 Spikes, another one of those insanely unforgivable platforming games, will be released on June 3 for 3DS, PC, PS4, Vita, and Wii U. Fans of similarly difficult Spelunky will be excited to be able to die in new and different ways!
That’s not all. Nicalis has announced that the PSN version will feature Cross-Buy, so that players will pay $14.99 to get both versions of the game. If you already own Nicalis’ Cave Story or NightSky on Steam or the 3DS, the company is offering a $5 loyalty discount as well.
1001 Spikes will have both single-player and multiplayer modes, and the multiplayer modes will include both co-op and versus. It’s also got unlockable guest characters, an awesome chiptune soundtrack, multiple possible endings, and plenty of levels to curse through.
1001 Spikes will be released for 3DS, PC, PS4, Vita, and Wii U on June 3. Hit the jump for the full press release. (more…)
