Ubisoft plans to announce multiple next-gen games at E3 2013

ubisoftlogo

Ubisoft’s Fall 2013 lineup will be well represented at this year’s E3 Expo as the publisher plans to display five titles at the gaming showcase, as well as multiple unannounced next-generation games:

  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
  • Rayman Legends
  • South Park: The Stick of Truth
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist
  • Watch Dogs

Ubisoft’s E3 Press Conference will take place on Monday, June 10 at 6:00 PM (Eastern Time). The company will post a livestream of the presentation on YouTube for everyone who can’t attend the E3 Expo. Updates from the show floor will also be posted on Ubisoft’s Facebook page, Twitter feed, and official blog during E3 week.

“This is a pivotal moment for the video game industry, and E3 is the opportunity for us to share our vision for the future,” said Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft’s CEO. “We have many incredible games in development, and we’re especially excited to share more on our next-gen titles, which will deliver more connected, immersive and interactive experiences to our fans.”

So, any guesses on what Ubisoft’s unannounced next-gen games will be?

Watch Dogs, AssCreed IV, Thief, Destiny, Battlefield 4 “announced” for Xbox One

xboxone-logoWhen is a game announcement not a game announcement? When that game was announced weeks, or even months, ago for a console that we didn’t know the name of. But with Microsoft’s unveiling of the Xbox One, a few multiplatform titles that we all knew were in development for it can be officially “announced.”

Ubisoft will have two titles available for the Xbox One launch: Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. The French publisher plans to release at least four additional games for the Xbox One during the system’s first year.

“The next generation of consoles will reinvigorate our industry and make it possible for us to deliver incredible new entertainment to gamers,” said Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our teams are using the innovations in connectivity, immersion and social gaming included in Xbox One to create original and memorable next-gen gaming experiences.”

Bungie has always loved the Xbox platform, so it’s not surprising that they’ve confirmed that Destiny will be released for the Xbox One. A release date was not announced. Square Enix and Eidos Montreal will sneak onto the Xbox One in 2014 with Thief. The stealth title will also make an appearance at this year’s E3 Expo.

“The team at Eidos Montreal is thrilled to confirm that Thief is coming to Xbox One. The next generation of home consoles allow us to create the best and the most immersive Thief game ever. The feedback we have received so far is simply amazing and we can’t wait to show more of Thief at E3 this year” said Stephane D’Astous, the General Manager of Eidos Montreal.

Finally, Battlefield 4 will challenge the latest Call of Duty during the Xbox One launch. More Xbox One titles will surely be announced in the lead-up to this year’s E3 Expo.

Avast! Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag developers discuss the PS4

Sony hasn’t strayed far for their second “Conversations With Creators” video. After focusing on Watch Dogs in episode one, the consolemaker sticks with Ubisoft and asks the developers of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag what they think of the PlayStation 4.

Creative Director Jean Guesdon and Associate Producer Sylvain Trottier praised the systems’s power with Trottier saying: “First thing that’s going to change drastically is the graphics. Because we think visually, with the stronger GPU, stronger CPU, a lot of RAM, we’re going to exploit this console and push the bar visually.”

Trottier also discussed the development environment of the PS4 and he believes Sony has made great strides in helping developers make games compared to the PS3: “The beauty of working with Sony on this console for this generation was the fact that it was built for game developers. To be really honest, Sony fixed all the issues that could have been there on the console.”

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is expected to be a launch title for the PS4 when it’s released later this year.

First two Assassin’s Creed IV trailers from Ubisoft confirm all the rumors

Poor Ubisoft, their big Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag reveal was spoiled by a leak of the game’s debut trailer (which you can watch above in case you missed it) over the weekend.

The trailer confirms everything we thought we knew about the game. It’ll be released on October 29 for the PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 with PC, PS4 and other “next-generation console” versions coming later. We also know that the pirate rogue at the center of the story is Edward Kenway, Connor’s grandfather.

“With the new hero and new setting we are creating the boldest and most unique Assassin’s Creed game yet, while still respecting the pillars of the franchise that have made it such a fan favorite,” said Yves Guillemot, Chief Executive Officer at Ubisoft. “Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag is based on a true, harsh and exciting part of a legendary era and will thrill longtime fans and newcomers alike.”

But if you’re looking for something new, check out the game’s second trailer, “Edward Kenway, A Pirate Trained By Assassins,” after the break. (more…)

Avast ya land lubbers! Assassin’s Creed IV trailer leaks early

assassinscreed4-large-boxSome pirate shenanigans have been going on over the weekend, with Gaming Everything posting the debut trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag days earlier than its official release on Monday, March 4.

While the cinematic trailer does not show any actual gameplay footage, following in the path of every other entry in the series, it does hint at new characters and gameplay elements. Narrated by the notorious Edward Teach, AKA Blackbeard, the trailer shows the mysterious and charismatic sailor assassin Edward Kenway, father of Haytham Kenway and grandfather to Conner, the less-than-popular main character of Assassin’s Creed III. Kenway Senior, who has a bit of a Simon Belmont about him, looks very much the dashing pirate rogue with Blackbeard embellishing tales of his heroics. He also has a hint of Ezio Auditore’s charm, bedding a couple of nubile young wenches. As well as the assassin missions and an expansion of the well-received naval missions from the previous games, its looks as though Kenway will be swimming down to the ocean bed to find treasures amongst the wreckage of old ships.

The trailer names the release date as October 29th for current platforms, but states that it is “also coming on next-gen consoles.” Since there is no release date set for the PS4, and the Xbox 720 has not even being announced yet, it seems Ubisoft are casting their nets as wide as possible.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag officially announced

assassinscreed4-large-boxYarr! Ubisoft has opened their treasure chest and confirmed that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be the next game in the series. All we’ve got to go on right now is the official boxart seen to your right (click to enlarge), but check out the awesome Assassin insignia/Jolly Roger pirate flag.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be available for the PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360. Just like Assassin’s Creed III, the PS3 version of the game will include exclusive content. For Black Flag, Ubisoft is producing a PS3 version that includes “60 minutes of exclusive gameplay.”

It’s unknown if the game will be coming to the PS4 or the (soon-to-be-announced) Xbox 720, but I’d say it’s a fair bet. This is Ubisoft we’re talking about, after all.

assassinscreed-pirate-header

Get out your pegleg and your gangplank and your Jolly Roger as Ubisoft’s next game in the Assassin’s Creed series will take place on the high seas… if a Kotaku tipster is to be believed.

According to the source, the pirate-themed game will be known as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and a marketing poster promoting the game (posted by Kotaku) is said to appear in stores on March 4.

Ubisoft has previously confirmed that the next Assassin’s Creed game starring “a new hero in a new time period” will be released in late 2013 or early 2014.
