Nominees for 2012 Writers Guild Award for Outstanding Videogame Writing announced
The Writers Guild of America has announced the five nominees who will battle it out for this year’s Writers Guild Award for Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing.
The Assassin’s Creed team at Ubisoft is once again up for a Writers GUild Award thanks to their work on Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. The previous game in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, won the award last year.
The writing teams behind Batman: Arkham City, Brink, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and Mortal Kombat have also been nominated for the Writers Guild Award.
Turning the Mortal Kombat mythos into a coherent story was quite a feat, so I’m pulling for the team at NetherRealm Studios.
You can see the complete list of nominated writers after the break and check back on February 19 to find out who won. (more…)
Obvious News Alert! Modern Warfare 3, Skyrim top November NPD list

OK, a stunning upset that is not. And the rest of the top ten wasn’t any more surprising as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim breathed fire on the number two spot and Battlefield 3 was redeployed to the front as the third best-selling game in November.
The industry’s biggest month was able to supply even more new releases for the list as Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (#4), Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (#7), Saints Row: The Third (#8), and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (#9) all earned a spot on the top ten.
In fact, November 2011 turned out to be one of the biggest months for game sales ever. Anita Frazier, a spokesperson for The NPD Group, said, “This November marks the best November on record for sales of new physical content.”

New Releases: Mario Kart 7, Assassin’s Creed Revelations for PC, NatGeo Challenge
With December upon us, the Fall gaming rush has come to a close as only a handful of titles are left to be released in 2011. But one of those games is also one of the biggest games of the year, Mario Kart 7. The first “numbered” Mario Kart sequel also adds a number of other new features to the series including karts with hang gliders, underwater tracks, and first-person tilt controls.
Also available in stores this week is the PC version of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and the PS3/Wii/Xbox 360 trivia contest National Geographic Challenge!
New Releases: Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Zelda Skyward Sword, Halo Anniversary, More
Ladies and gentlemen, the biggest week of new releases has finally arrived. More games are released in the third week of November than at any other time of the year and, once again, the publishers have come through with an amazing array of titles including:

- Rayman Origins (PS3, Wii, Xbox 360), the return of Rayman and there’s not a rabbid in sight.
- Jurassic Park (Xbox 360), Telltale’s take on one of the greatest films of all-time. Hold on to your butts.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will answer a lot of questions, but not all
Speaking to Destructoid at this weekend’s PAX Prime, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Creative Director Alex Amancio revealed that the game will do a better job of answering fan’s questions than Brotherhood did.
“People are going to go ‘Oh, okay, I get it!’ or ‘I never thought they were going to show me that!,’ and it really sets you up for what’s the come.”
“We actually found [an article online], I forget where it is on the web, somebody did a ‘Top 10 Things Fans Want to Know About Assassin’s Creed.’ And in that top 10 list, we actually answer seven.”
Amancio also said, “We want to avoid what I like to call the X-Files effect, where you risk crumbling under the weight of your own mythology.” So the team at Ubisoft Montreal is well aware that fans actually want some revelations to come out of a game actually subtitled Revelations.
Let’s hope so. This “Assassin’s Creed III announced!… no wait… it’s just another game starring Ezio” thing is getting old. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will be available for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 15.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations E3 trailer packs a punch (and a kick, swords, spears, etc.)
Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Revelations promises to unite Altair and Ezio for the first time and this E3 trailer gives us a glimpse into how the two great assassins will meet. It is also in the running for “coolest three minutes of E3 2011.”
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will be stores this November for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Players who pre-order the game on the PS3 or Xbox 360 from GameStop will automatically be upgraded to the Signature Edition, which includes an exclusive single-player mission, a weapons capacity upgrade, an extra multiplayer character, an animated short film and an original game soundtrack.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations teaser trailer unveiled

Yesterday, Ubisoft released the game’s first teaser trailer, which you can check out above. The publisher has also promised to release more news on Revelations, sneakily like an assassin, at the 2011 E3 Expo.
