Ubisoft announces Assassin’s Creed: Rogue exclusively for PS3, Xbox 360
Today, Ubisoft officially announced the first details of this Fall’s PS3/Xbox 360-exclusive Assassin’s Creed title, Assassin’s Creed: Rogue. Previously known as “Comet,” practically every rumor we’ve been hearing about the game over the last six months has turned out to be true.
In Rogue, players will take control of Shay Patrick Cormac, a former Assassin who sides with the Templars after a brutal betrayal by his brotherhood. The game will be take place during the middle of the 18th century, specifically the time period covered by the Seven Years War (1756–1763) and the first predicted appearance of Halley’s Comet (1759). Shay will visit “the frozen North Atlantic, the Appalachian River Valley and New York” during his hunt for Assassins in the concluding chapter of the franchise’s “North American saga.” Shay is a sailor and his preferred method of transportation is his ship, the Morrigan. According to Ubisoft, the naval component in Rogue will be better than ever and add “new weapons to use on both land and sea” to the combat.
Assassin’s Creed: Rogue is in development at Ubisoft Sofia (with assistance from Ubisoft’s Singapore, Montreal, Quebec, Chengdu, Milan, and Bucharest studios) and will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 11.
Ubisoft: New Assassin’s Creed game for PS3/Xbox 360 will be revealed “soon”
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot spoke to investors today as part of the comapny’s quarterly financial presentation. Guillemot talked up the success of Watch Dogs and the publisher’s strong E3 showing, but he also revealed that news on another Assassin’s Creed game would be released “soon.”
Responding to a question about the status of the next Assassin’s Creed game for the PS3 and Xbox 360, Guillemot said: “We said that we were going to give more info soon on [an Assassin’s Creed game for the PS3 and Xbox 360], and it will come soon.” Ubisoft previously confirmed that an original Assassin’s Creed game would be released for current-generation consoles this Fall.
Rumor has it this game will be titled Assassin’s Creed: Comet and that it will serve as a direct sequel to last year’s Black Flag. I guess we’ll find out for sure “soon.”
Ubisoft will continue to support PS3/Xbox 360 with new Assassin’s Creed game this Fall
According to Ubisoft, this Fall’s entry in the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed: Unity, is only in development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. However, the company’s CEO has declared (during their quarterly financial report) that the PS3 and Xbox 360 will also receive a new Assassin’s Creed game this Fall.
Speaking to investors, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said: “Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be released this fall on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. We have not disclosed our plan yet for the Xbox 360 and PS3 SKUs. We have made it clear that as a company we expect to continue supporting those consoles for the foreseeable future.”
Guillemot’s statement makes it sound like Unity will be released in some form for the PS3 and Xbox 360. However, back in March, Kotaku reported that the publisher had an exclusive Assassin’s Creed game in development for the PS3 and Xbox 360 known as Comet. The game is said to take place in the 1750s and would somehow tie in to the appearance of Haley’s Comet in 1759.
Wouldn’t it be wild if PS3 and Xbox 360 owners get both Comet and Unity?

Rumor: Assassin’s Creed: Comet in development for PS3, Xbox 360
If you recall, last year’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was a cross-generation title that was released for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U as well as the next-generation PS4 and Xbox One. But last week, Ubisoft revealed that the next game in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Unity, is only in development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. So what’s a PS3/Xbox 360 owner to do this Fall when they’re itching to play a new Assassin’s Creed game? According to a report on Kotaku, they should play Assassin’s Creed: Comet.
Assassin’s Creed: Comet is said to star a sailor named Shay, a Templar who took part in a mutiny against his captain in the year 1758. The “Comet” in the game’s title likely refers to Haley’s Comet, which passed by Earth in 1759. Once Shay is on his own, Kotaku’s source states he will be able to sail along the Atlantic coast and into New York, where he will interact with Assassin’s Creed III‘s Haytham Kenway and Freedom Cry‘s Adewale.
Ubisoft has refused to comment on Kotaku’s report, but perhaps we’ll learn more about Assassin’s Creed: Comet (and Unity) soon.
