It’s another big week for the PlayStation Store. These words could probably be etched to the top of this column every week and still be true, but today that sentence is especially apt as Ubisoft, WB Games, and Konami added a bunch of eagerly anticipated titles to Sony’s digital storefront alongside a passel of big indies.

Ubisoft leads the way with a double shot of their famed Assassin’s Creed series. The franchise’s first next-generation exclusive, Assassin’s Creed: Unity, takes the action to Paris and is now available to download for the PS4. Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed: Rogue for the PS3 closes out the “Americas” saga and allows players to play as a Templar for the first time. Also available this week is WB Games’ Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. The latest Lego title from TT Games blasts Batman into outer space on the PS4, PS3, and Vita. And Konami’s contribution to this week’s PlayStation Store update is Pro Evoltuon Soccer 2015 (PS4, PS3), the latest game in the soccer simulation series.

Finally this week, Bandai Namco released Tales of Hearts R, a new action RPG in the long-running Tales series, for the Vita. It was joined by a pair of indie favorites: Vblank’s overhead actioner Retro City Rampage DX (Cross-Buy on the PS4, PS3, and Vita) and side-scrolling world-builder Terraria (PS4, but includes Cross-Buy access to the previously released Vita version).

More information about all of these games can be found after the break and a full rundown of this week’s new game add-ons and discounts can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

newreleases11114

With Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare‘s launch behind us, game publishers have moved forward with a massive amount of mid-November releases. Chief among them (that’s right, I went there) is Microsoft’s Halo: The Master Chief Collection, an Xbox One repackaging of Halo: Combated Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4. More Achievements than you could ever ask for and four of the best shooters to ever grace a gaming system. Not a bad deal. Also available this week is a double shot of Assassin’s Creed from Ubisoft. Assassin’s Creed: Rogue (PS3, Xbox 360) closes the book on the franchise’s “Americas” saga while Assassin’s Creed: Unity (PC, PS4, Xbox One) shifts the series to the French Revolution.

The remaining new releases can also be slotted into several long-running franchises including WB’s Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One), Sega’s Sonic Boom two-fer (Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric on the Wii U and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal on the 3DS), Bandai Namco’s Tales of Hearts R (Vita), and Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 (PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One).

Finally this week, Blizzard is back with another World of Warcraft expansion… World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor.

A complete list of this week’s new releases can be found after the break. (more…)

egx-header

EGX London, formerly known as the Eurogamer Expo, finally gives UK players a chance to their hand at unreleased games after all the other big Summer shows: E3, PAX Prime, Gamescom, and TGS. It sits at the right time of year too! I always tend to get a bit down on games over the Summer when my consoles sit mostly unused. After playing a dozen of the biggest games scheduled to release over the next nine months, I’m excited to finally charge a DualShock 4 again. On top of that, talking to so many gamers in one place really gives you a nice vertical slice of where the industry sits at the moment. But first… the games! (more…)

Assassin’s Creed: Unity Season Pass, AC Chronicles China side-scroller announced

Ubisoft has announced they’re preparing a Season Pass for Assassin’s Creed: Unity that will include story content that takes place after the main campaign as well as a standalone side-scrolling adventure set in China. You read that right… Unity’s Season Pass will include access to Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China, a standalone game developed by Climax Studios that takes place after Assassin’s Creed: Revelations:

For the first time ever, players will be transported to the Middle Kingdom in the 16th century, where the last remaining Assassin of the Chinese Brotherhood has returned to her homeland. Players will be immersed in a vibrant setting, inspired by traditional brush paintings and Chinese architecture from a pivotal, historic time period in one of the greatest civilizations in history. Hell-bent on revenge, Shao Jun will use the skills she learned under legendary Assassin Ezio Auditore to exact vengeance. Players will be able to rely on stealth to accomplish their mission, as well as Shao Jun’s martial arts training and all-new Assassin gear.

Meanwhile, the Unity expansion is known as “Dead Kings” and includes a wonderful weapon known as the Guillotine Gun:

In this self-contained set of missions, players will explore the murky depths of the Basilica and fight merciless adversaries to uncover the darkest secrets of the city. Arno will equip the new Guillotine gun, a deadly explosive weapon for short and long range combat. In addition to the main missions, players will discover new open-world activities including treasure hunts, murder mysteries and contracts, as well as new co-op missions. Additional weapons, gear, skills and outfits can be unlocked and carried over to the main game.

The Assassin’s Creed: Unity Season Pass has been priced at $29.99 and those who pre-order it will receive an exclusive in-game weapon, the Double-Handed War Axe. All of the Season Pass content, including Chronicles: China, will be released separately and should be available by “early 2015.”

Assassin’s Creed: Unity pushed back two weeks to November 11

assassincreedunity-header

Ubisoft has announced they’ve been forced to delay Assassin’s Creed: Unity to add a final level of polish to the first Assassin’s Creed game released exclusively for new-gen consoles. Thankfully, the delay is only two weeks, so Unity will now launch alongside Assassin’s Creed: Rogue on November 11.

“Making games is not a precise science. It’s a leap of faith. There’s a good level of subjectivity and creativity,” Senior Producer Vincent Pontbriand said to the UbiBlog. He also talked a bit about some of the little things that need tweaking in the final days of development:

It’s the little things. A tiny gesture that Arno makes as he’s racing across the Parisian rooftops. A barely noticeable reaction from a solitary NPC in a crowd 3,000 deep. The subtle swaying motion of an opulent chandelier in a lavish ballroom. It’s these little things, multiplied by the thousands, that a development team focuses on during the final push to ship a game. And with a massive open-world title like Assassin’s Creed Unity, all those little things add up fast.

To ensure that Assassin’s Creed: Unity is the best game it can be, Ubisoft will also release a “Day 1” patch that will include additional tweaks and improvements.
