Mark Hamill retires as The Joker… for real this time

After almost two decades of voicing the madman on “Batman: The Animated Series” and in numerous games – including the recently released Batman: Arkham City, Mark Hamill is retiring from his post as The Joker. This marks the second departure of a long-time voice actor from the series, with Arleen Sorkin, voice of Harley Quinn, announcing her leave in May 2011.

Hamill made his announcement via Twitter, where he posted, “Hello/Goodbye Joker! I’ve enjoyed every minute behind the wheel of the Crown Prince’s crazy car- I’m going to miss him more than I can say!!

The sequel to 2009’s Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City was released on October 18 to critical acclaim and currently holds a 95 average rating on Metacritic. Given the new release’s success, we can only hope that Hamill is staying in character with his recent announcement and playing a big joke on all of us.

If you’re a gamer and you have a pulse, this week is a very important week for new game releases. And that’s all because Batman: Arkham City (PS3, Xbox 360) will be available in stores this Tuesday. I’d just call in sick to work now to be on the safe side.

Batman: Arkham City launch trailer is packed with supervillains

The release of Batman: Arkham City is just a few days away, so check out the outstanding launch trailer above to further get yourself in the mood. A murderer’s row of supervillains is paraded through the trailer, ensuring that Batman will likely put a beatdown on your favorite. There’s Hugo Strange, Catwoman, Two-Face, The Joker, Bane, Solomon Grundy, The Riddler, Mr. Freeze, The Penguin, Talia al Ghul, Poison Ivy and a few that I probably missed.

Batman: Arkham City will hit store shelves on October 18 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 (a PC version is set for November). If you watch the launch trailer on a continuous loop from now until then, you’d be able to view it 2,121 times.

I can think of worse ways to spend a weekend.

The Joker has the last laugh in the latest Batman: Arkham City trailer

Hugo Strange may be running Arkham City, but The Joker is still the biggest baddie of them all in the newest trailer for Batman: Arkham City. How serious is The Clown Prince of Crime? He actually considers killing Batman.

Batman: Arkham City will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 18 with the PC version arriving in November.

PC version of Batman: Arkham City delayed until November; new screens released

In a very short note, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that the PC version of Batman: Arkham City will be released in November instead of on October 18 with the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. That’s it. That’s the entirety of what the publisher had to say on the matter.

However, while they didn’t say “we’re sorry,” releasing a batch of new screenshots showcasing a battle with Bane and the Monarch Theatre (where’s Bruce’s parents were killed) is a welcome sight. You can check them out after the break. (more…)

Batman: Arkham City soundtrack rocks with Panic! at the Disco, Coheed & Cambria, more

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and WaterTower Music have announced that Batman: Arkham City – The Album will be available on October 4, two weeks ahead of the game’s October 18 release date on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The album will also be available digitally as a bonus download inlcuded with the Arkham City Collector’s Edition.

Featuring music “inspired by” the highly anticipated sequel, Batman: Arkham City – The Album will include new songs from Panic! At The Disco, Coheed and Cambria, Daughtry, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Serj Tankian and more.

Coheed and Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez is very excited to bring his musical storytelling to Gotham City. “I write in a very conceptual format with the stories that surround Coheed and Cambria, but Batman has a much larger, defined history and rules that go along with it. My goal was to find universal themes from Batman’s existing history to help give the lyrics legs and dimension so that the song could live within that world,” Sanchez said.

The full track listing can be found after the break. (more…)

Batman adds 3D support for Arkham City to his utility belt

The addition of anaglyphic 3D support was one of the major selling points for the Game of the Year Edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Batman: Arkham City will go one better and include both stereoscopic 3D support (for those with 3DTVs) and anaglyphic 3D support (for those who don’t mind the red and blue paper glasses).

Here’s what WB Games had to say about Bruce Wayne’s latest high-tech toy:

Gamers on Xbox 360 and PS3 can delve deep into Arkham City’s breathtaking environments and immersive gameplay in stereoscopic 3D when playing on any 3D HDTV and wearing active shutter glasses that are compatible with the television. In addition, Batman: Arkham City supports NVIDIA 3D Vision technology, allowing PC players to also experience the action in stereoscopic 3D on GeForce GPU-equipped desktop or notebook PCs and compatible 3DTVs.

Fans with HDTVs can enjoy Batman: Arkham City in anaglyphic 3D with technology compatible with all high definition TV sets and visible to players wearing 3D glasses available for the video game.

Batman: Arkham City will Bam! Pow! Zap! its way into stores on October 18 release.
