Here’s the first trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight’s Batgirl: A Matter of Family expansion

Batman: Arkham Knight will travel back in time to explore the untold history of Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl in the Batgirl: A Matter of Family expansion. WB Games will release A Matter of Family next week, but first, they’ve decided to give gamers a sneak peek at the add-on (including Harley Quinn in her classic harlequin costume and the return of Mark Hamill as The Joker) in this brand new trailer.

However, savvy comic readers might know exactly how A Matter of Family will end. The expansion follows Batgirl (and Robin) to an abandoned amusement park, where the pair will attempt to rescue Commissioner Gordon from the clutches of The Joker. This same scenario was used in Alan Moore’s The Killing Joke, the famed Batman book where The Joker shot and paralyzed Batgirl. These events would eventually lead to her rebirth as the Oracle that Arkham players know and love.

But the Batman mythos is nothing if not adaptable, and its possible that Rocksteady and WB Montreal will write a different ending for the world’s most famous librarian.

Batgirl: A Matter of Family will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One on July 14 as part of the Batman: Arkham Knight Season Pass. Everyone else will be able to purchase the expansion for $6.99 beginning July 21.

WB Games is preparing to release Batgirl DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight on July 14

batmanarkhamknight-batgirlWhile the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight continues to be plagued by glitches and other assorted problems, WB Games is pressing ahead with the game’s DLC schedule and plans to release the Batgirl: A Matter of Family expansion in a few weeks:

Set prior to the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batgirl: A Matter of Family will allow players to take on the role of Batgirl for the first time in the Batman: Arkham franchise. This exciting story add-on features an all-new location with multiple missions, side quests and secrets; a new hacking feature to progress through the world and solve puzzles; and Dual Play functionality with Robin for dynamic take-down maneuvers.

Owners of Arkham Knight’s Season Pass will receive access to Batgirl: A Matter of Family on July 14. However, if you’d prefer to purchase the expansion on its own (for $6.99), you’ll have to wait until July 21. Naturally, the expansion will only be released for the PS4 and Xbox One as the PC version remains unavailable for purchase.

Batgirl: A Matter of Family was developed by WB Montreal, the same team behind Batman: Arkham Origins. This likely explains the speedy turnaround, and WB Games promised that all subsequent DLC additions to Arkham Knight will be developed by Rocksteady Studios.

WB Games suspends future sales of Batman: Arkham Knight’s PC version while a patch can be created

batmanarkhamknight-header

PS4 and Xbox One owners have been enjoying Batman: Arkham Knight since its release yesterday, but PC players were given a game that was more riddled with bugs than Poison Ivy’s lair. WB Games has been trying to quickly issue a patch to fix the performance issues and graphical glitches, but they’ve also taken the very drastic step of suspending future sales of the PC version until everything can be fixed.

News of the suspension was posted to the game’s official forums a few hours ago:

We want to apologize to those of you who are experiencing performance issues with Batman: Arkham Knight on PC. We take these issues very seriously and have therefore decided to suspend future game sales of the PC version while we work to address these issues to satisfy our quality standards. We greatly value our customers and know that while there are a significant amount of players who are enjoying the game on PC, we want to do whatever we can to make the experience better for PC players overall.

Thank you to those players who have already given valuable feedback. We are continuously monitoring all threads posted in the Official Batman: Arkham Knight Community and Steam forums, as well as any issues logged with our Customer Support (support.wbgames.com). If you purchased your copy of the game and are not satisfied with your experience, then we ask for your patience while these issues are resolved. If desired, you can request a refund at help.steampowered.com (Steam refund policies can be found here: store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds) or the retail location where you purchased the game.

The Batman: Arkham fans have continually supported the franchise to its current height of success, and we want to thank you for your patience as we work to deliver an updated version of Batman: Arkham Knight on PC so you can all enjoy the final chapter of the Batman: Arkham series as it was meant to be played.

I’d make a “WB Games wasn’t prepared” joke, but this situation is a very serious breach of trust between the publisher and their fans. An apology is nice, and the sales suspension protects WB Games from future complaints, but it’s very clear the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight wasn’t ready to be released this past Tuesday, June 23.

Xbox Store Today: Batman Arkham Knight, Devil May Cry 4, Tales From Borderlands Ep3

batmanarkhamknight-header

Three new games are now available on the Xbox Games Store, and all three involve rather unorthodox heroes.

Batman: Arkham Knight leads the way on the Xbox One with the finale of Rocksteady’s Arkham trilogy. While “The Batman” himself is possibly the most well-known superhero in the world, his methods often verge on madness. And in Arkham Knight, that includes taking on an army of supervillains by tearing through the streets of Gotham in a heavily-armed Batmobile. As the game’s trailers often say, this is war.

Capcom’s Dante is not quite as well known as Bruce Wayne, but his penchant for stylish demon slaying has made him a favorite among gamers. And Capcom has responded by remaking his fourth adventure for the Xbox One as Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition. The Special Edition includes additional playable characters, new game modes, and a sparkling 1080p/60FPS graphical upgrade.

Finally this week, Telltale Games released the third episode of their Borderlands spinoff, Tales From the Borderlands: Catch A Ride. It’s available for the Xbox One and Xbox 360, and it stars a pair of heroes who escaped “very-near-almost-certain-death” in the previous episode with the assistance of “statuesque buttocks.”

OK, there’s the unorthodoxy I’m looking for. More information on all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

Batman: Arkham Knight, Devil May Cry 4, PlanetSide 2, more added to PlayStation Store

batmanarkhamknight-header

Are you ready to be the Batman? After a few delays, Rocksteady is finally ready to unleash Batman: Arkham Knight (PS4) on the PlayStation Store. Bruce Wayne was joined by another high-flying hero on the PS4 as Cacpom released the Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition yesterday. The remake includes new playable characters and game modes, as well as an enhanced framerate and graphics. Also available for the PS4 this week is PlanetSide 2, a free-to-play shooter that marks the debut of Daybreak Games, the MMO publisher formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment.

If you’re looking for something a bit more talky, PS4 and PS3 owners will receive access to Telltale’s third Tales From the Borderlands episode, Catch A Ride. And finally, PS3 owners will be able to experience (or re-experience) Suikoden III, a classic RPG originally released for the PS2.

More information on all of these games (and a few others) can be found after the break. And, as always, a rundown of this week’s new game add-ons and discounts can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

New Releases: Batman Arkham Knight, Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward, Ride

batmanarkhamknight-header

“As a man, I’m flesh and blood, I can be ignored, I can be destroyed. But as a symbol… as a symbol I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting.”

Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Knight, the final chapter in the Arkham saga, is finally here and if the rumors are true, it might be the final chapter of The Dark Knight’s crimefighting career. But Batman is a symbol and Batman is forever. He will live on. He will return.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. And in case you haven’t upgraded to a current-generation system yet, a PS4 + Batman: Arkham Knight Console Bundle is also available this week.

In non-Batman new release news, Square Enix is finally ready to release the first major expansion for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Titled Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, the MMO will recruit players to fight in the thousand-year Dragonsong War on the PC, PS4, and PS3. If you’re new to the Final Fantasy XIV universe, Square Enix will also release the Final Fantasy XIV: The Complete Experience package, which includes A Realm Reborn and Heavensward, on the PC, PS4, and PS3.

Finally this week, Bandai Namco and Milestone will release the motorcycle racer Ride for the PS4 and Xbox One.

But you know who loves to ride a motorcycle? Batman, that’s who.

Here’s a short look at the GameStop-exclusive Red Hood DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight

Pre-ordering Batman: Arkham Knight from GameStop will get you the Red Hood Story Pack, a retailer-exclusive expansion to Arkham Knight’s story that stars the Red Hood, one of Gotham City’s angrier vigilantes. The Red Hood is Jason Todd, a former Robin, and a character who was killed off in 1988 after fans requested his demise during a call-in vote.

Resurrected ten years ago in the comics, the Red Hood has discarded Batman’s “no guns” policy and is willing to use lethal force on the villains of Gotham… as you’ll see in the brand new trailer embedded above. Like most other retailer exclusives, the Red Hood Story Pack will be available to download by all players sometime after the launch of Arkham Knight.

Speaking of its launch, Batman: Arkham Knight is in development at Rocksteady Studios and will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on June 23. Hey, that’s just two weeks from today!

New Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay trailer goes to war

Back in March, WB Games and Rocksteady Studios released “Officer Down,” an extended gameplay trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight that focused on the Caped Crusader’s hunt for Scarecrow’s safe house. That chase continues in a new gameplay trailer released today, and embedded above, titled “Time to Go to War.”

It’s another exciting Bat-adventure that manages to throw in a ridiculous Batmobile versus tank battalion scene and a snarky Poison Ivy. Snarky villains are the best.

In other Bat-news, Sony has released a new trailer detailing some of Arkham Knight’s exclusive PS4 content including Adam West’s Batman suit, his Batmobile, a Justice League 3000 suit, and the trippy Scarecrow Nightmare Missions. The PS4-exclusive content will remain exclusive until sometime this Fall and you can find the trailer after the break.

But Batman: Arkham Knight will be released for everyone, including PC, PS4, and Xbox One players, on June 23. (more…)
