Battlefield 3 blows away the competition in October NPD report
The NPD Group has released their report on the ten bestselling titles in October and, not surprisingly, Battlefield 3 takes the top spot. EA’s modern warfare sim likely won’t hold onto the crown for long as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was released to record-breaking sales earlier this week.
Battlefield 3 was followed by a slew of new releases including Batman: Arkham City, NBA 2K12, Rage, Just Dance 3, Dark Souls, and Forza Motorsport 4. That’s right, the brutal action RPG Dark Souls outsold Microsoft’s big racing franchise.
Holdovers for this month include Madden NFL 12, Gears of War 3, and that other football game, FIFA Soccer 12. The complete top ten for October can be found after the break. (more…)
Battlefield 3 blasts its way to 5 million in sales
EA battles its way into the fight for this Fall’s most popular game as the company has announced that Battlefield 3 sold five million copies in its first week.
“From Tokyo to Los Angeles, Sydney to London, millions of fans have been playing all weekend long — we are overwhelmed by the global response to Battlefield 3,” said Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President of the EA Games Label. “It is extremely gratifying to deliver an entertainment experience that delights our fans, and to have the opportunity to introduce new people to the franchise. Already, we are seeing unprecedented play times and online activity which is very rewarding. This launch solidifies Battlefield as a leading entertainment brand.”
Battlefield 3’s massive first week sales propels it past Gears of War 3 (which launched with three million in sales) and Batman: Arkham City (4.6 million copies were shipped in its first week) as the biggest launch of the Fall.
Battle of the Modern War Games: Battlefield 3 launch trailer
Have you chosen your side in the battle of the modern war games? EA and DICE will release Battlefield 3 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 next week. To celebrate, they’ve created a launch trailer that is super intense. More intense than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s launch trailer? Maybe, but that’s up to you to decide.
However, Battlefield 3 does have one major point its favor. The trailer (and game, obviously) features everyone’s favorite Secret Service agent. That’s right, Glenn Morshower of “24” plays a General that’s even been modeled to look like him.
New Releases: Battlefield 3, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, Pokemon Rumble Blast, More
The war begins this week as DICE’s Battlefield 3 will be published by EA on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The game will have two weeks by itself on store shelves before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 returns fire on November 8. Have you chosen a side yet?
Also available this week is a Kirby game that we all thought was cancelled back in the GameCube days, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land. It’ll be available on the Wii this week, and yes, that’s Kirby wearing a Link hat and wielding a sword that looks suspiciously like the Master Sword. Nintendo will also unleash the melee-battling of Pokemon Rumble Blast on the 3DS.
A ton of smaller games will also make it onto store shelves this week including Namco Bandai’s Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3, Xbox 360), Sega’s The House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut (PS3), Disney’s Disney Universe (PC, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360), Atlus’s The Cursed Crusade (PS3, Xbox 360) and Telltale’s Back to the Future (PS3, Wii).

EA pulls the lever on full Battlefield 3 “Operation Guillotine” trailer
Just when you thought Battlefield 3 couldn’t look more amazing, they release the “Operation Guillotine” trailer, showcasing Xbox 360 gameplay for the first time. I am struck speechless. So rather than waste your time reading anything that I have to say, which would be superflous, go watch the trailer. Go ahead… What are you doing still reading this?! Watch it!
Battlefield 3 is out October 23 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
Battlefield 3 TGS trailer focuses on the vehicles of war
Japan’s aversion to first person shooters is pretty well known, so EA and DICE took a different tack when developing Battlefield 3‘s Tokyo Game Show trailer. Instead of focusing on the street level battles between soldiers like many of the American trailers do, the Tokyo Game Show trailer puts a heavy emphasis on Battlefield 3’s vehicles. Jeeps, helicopters, tanks, fighter jets… they’re all here.
So what are you waiting for? Drive up to the top of this article and check it out.
