Bloodborne: The Old Hunters expansion will be released on November 24
Bloodborne has proven to be quite successful for Sony Computer Entertainment and From Software. As of late August, the PS4 game has sold more than two million copies throughout the world. So naturally, now’s a great time to announce more details about the promised expansion.
Unveiled as part of Sony’s Tokyo Game Show presentation yesterday, Bloodborne: The Old Hunters will be released on November 24. Priced at $19.99, the expansion will give players the opportunity to “experience the nightmare of the hunters who once guarded Byrgenwerth’s darkest secrets.”
Set in a nightmare world where hunters from the past are trapped forever, explore brand new stages full of dangers, rewards, and deadly beasts to overcome. You’ll find multiple new outfits and weapons to add to your arsenal as well as additional magic to wield and add more variety to your combat strategy.
With new story details, learn the tale of hunters who once made Yharnam their hunting grounds, meet new NPCs, and discover another side of the history and world of Bloodborne.
A new trailer for Bloodborne: The Old Hunters was also revealed through the PlayStation Blog, giving players their first glimpse at the spinning buzzsaw that is Simon’s Bowblade, and a new boss named Ludwig.
From Software is working on an expansion for Bloodborne
Bloodborne is one of the best reasons to own a PS4 right now. But if you were thinking of trading it in, you might want to wait, as the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, has confirmed an expansion is on the way:
So I have been asked by many people if we are making DLC for Bloodborne. I can say… An expansion is coming. More info later this year. :D
— Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) May 21, 2015
Aside from a promise of “more info later this year,” we don’t know anything else about Bloodborne’s planned expansion. Presumably it’ll be released sometime this year, but we don’t know that for sure either. I guess we’ll just have to wait for that additional information before getting too excited.
Battlefield Hardline pulls off a heist to become best-selling game of March 2015
Hey, have you heard of this Bloodborne game? I hear its pretty popular and that Sony’s got a bonafide hit on their hands. It even sold more than a million copies. For all the acclaim Bloodborne has received and all the copies it surely has sold, the game was topped in last month’s NPD rankings by Battlefield Hardline. Developed by Visceral Games, Battlefield Hardline is a cops-and-robbers spin on the Battlefield series and it, not Bloodborne, managed to become the best-selling game of March 2015.
That said, nearly every game of note managed to crash the top ten last month including Mario Party 10 (#4), MLB 15: The Show (#6), Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (#9), and Final Fantasy Type-0 HD (#10). Nintendo’s Code Name: STEAM was the only other March release that seemed like it might have enough juice to reach the top ten, but it was pushed out by Grand Theft Auto V (#3), Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (#5), and other returning heavy hitters.
The NPD Group (via Game Informer) used this new release drought to explain why March 2015’s game sales were down 6% from the same month a year ago. NPD’s Liam Callahan was also quick to point out that March 2014 saw the release of two very well-received games in TitanFall and InFamous: Second Son. Callahan also confirmed that the PS4 outsold the Xbox One for another month.
March 2015’s top ten best-selling titles can be found after the break. (more…)
Bloodborne, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Cities: Skylines all sell one million copies
While the weather outside was frightful, gamers across the globe responded by purchasing a trio of games in droves this Winter. In fact, each game has sold more than one million copies worldwide.
Sony Computer Entertainment announced that Bloodborne has sold more than one million copies worldwide since its March 24. According to the PlayStation Blog, From Software is also hard at work on patch 1.03 to “to reduce certain load times” and add in a few “performance optimizations.” They’ll also remove that bug that makes the game easier after you’ve been playing for more than 12 hours.
According to Capcom, they’ve shipped one million copies of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate to stores across Europe and North America, so they haven’t crossed the seven figure sales figure just yet. But the publisher still plans to celebrate by releasing a free Monster Hunter theme for the 3DS in May.
Finally, Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order have sold one million copies of their city-builder, Cities: Skylines, since March 10. The game has been heartily embraced by sim fans who felt letdown by SimCity, but it looks like its begun to reach gamers of all stripes. I think this Facebook post (which includes a cameo appearance from Dr. Evil) says it all.

New Releases: Bloodborne, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, Pillars of Eternity, More
The next big PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne, will be available in stores this week. Developed by From Software, the makers of Dark Souls, Bloodborne takes place in a gothic city that’s in the grip of some kind of blood-based plague that breeds demonic monsters. A little more gruesome than the common cold, to say the least.
Also available this week is Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, an enhanced re-release of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for the PS4 and Xbox One. In addition to prettier visuals, the Handsome Collection also includes all available downloadable content for both games.
Portable players will be able to pick up Lego Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin this week. The game will be released for both the 3DS and Vita and its the latest game based on the Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu television series. This time the ninjas have to do battle with the memory-stealing Ronin.
Finally, PC players will be able to choose from two new retail releases this week. There’s Pillars of Eternity is a classic RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox Interactive that asks players to “embrace adventure as you delve into a realm of wonder, nostalgia, and the excitement.” And Etherium is a real-time strategy game set in a far-flung future “where three factions battle it out for a mysterious and rare resource known as Etherium.”
Bloodborne’s story trailer reveals a horde of beasts literally born from blood
From Software’s Bloodborne has been in the spotlight recently as the latest game featured in IGN’s IGN First showcase. This extensive look at Bloodborne’s development included a gameplay video showing the first 18 minutes of the game and now a peek at the story. Writing on the PlayStation Blog, SCE Japan Studio’s Masaaki Yamagiwa talked a bit about the source of the rampaging monster hordes and the unreliable reality that you’ll find yourself in:
When we revealed the first 18 minutes of the game a few weeks ago, I introduced how the game starts with the player arriving in Yharnam and receiving a blood transfusion from a strange doctor, which ends up clouding his memory. Is this all a dream? A nightmare? Where did all of the beasts come from? And what secrets does this Yharnam blood hold? Check out the trailer for just a small taste of the mysteries and horrors waiting for you in Bloodborne.
Are you coming down with a fever? The only cure is more Bloodborne, which will be available exclusively for the PS4 on March 24.
