Borderlands 2 will be released for Vita in 2014
OK, are you sitting down? No, seriously, I think you should probably sit down for this one. There’s lots and lots (and LOTS) of news coming out of this year’s Gamescom, but the only thing I care about is that Borderlands 2 is coming to Vita in 2014.
According to the PlayStation Blog, “PS Vita gives Borderlands 2 fans the ability to play the game anywhere they want, complete with of all the unique benefits of the Vita system, and will truly bring the four-player cooperative experience to the palms of your hands.” Does this mean PS3/Vita cross-play? It’s neither confirmed nor denied, but it’s one of those things that just makes sense and needs to happen. What game could highlight that functionality better?
This was also part of the announcement: “You spoke, we listened, and with the wonderful collaboration between 2K, PlayStation and the team at Iron Galaxy Studios – makers of indie fighting game Divekick – we can finally make Borderlands 2 on PS Vita a reality!” Yes, that’s right, the creators of Divekick are involved. There’s too much awesome happening in this article.
Borderlands 2’s Krieg the Psycho DLC is now available to download
Gearbox has added Krieg the Psycho, the second downloadable character, and the first focused on melee combat, to Borderlands 2 today. Krieg is available to download from the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and PC download services for $9.99 (or 800 Microsoft Points). If you previously purchased the Borderlands 2 Season Pass, Krieg will be a free download.
“On behalf of the development team at Gearbox Software, I want to thank the fans of Borderlands 2 for the love and engagement that allows us to invest our hearts and time into supporting the game with an entirely new player character, Kreig the Psycho,” said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. “Our fans now get the opportunity to step into the shoes of one of the most iconic characters in the Borderlands franchise as they slice their way through Pandora on the hunt for new loot!”
If the launch trailer isn’t enough to satisfy your clamoring for Krieg carnage, Creative Director Paul Helquist has posted a 15-minute walkthrough with the character at Game Trailers.
Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep DLC coming June 25
Borderlands 2‘s fourth (and final) downloadable expansion will be released on June 25.
Titled “Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep,” the add-on will feature a storyline where “Tiny Tina is hosting a Dungeons & Dragons-like tabletop game.” The expansion will be available for $9.99 on PC download services and the PlayStation Store and 800 Microsoft ($10) on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
Borderlands 2 Season Pass holders will, of course, be able to download it for free.

Second Borderlands 2 Limited Edition Loot Chest coming in May
One more bit of news from the Gearbox panel, a second Borderlands 2 “Loot Chest” will be available in May. Like the first one, this special edition will be super-limited. How limited? There’s only going to be 5,000 of them and you’ll be able to get it exclusively at Think Geek for $99.99.
It’ll include a variety of neat Borderlands-themed stuff (see below) and it’ll be available in May. Sadly, it doesn’t come with the game. But you already own it, right?

Krieg the Psycho is new Borderlands 2 character; Ultimate Vault Hunter’s Pack in April
The Gearbox panel is currently underway at PAX East 2013 and the beleaguered developer has announced that the newest Borderlands 2 vault hunter will be known as Krieg the Psycho. Krieg, which is German for “war,” is a crazed berserker that is focused on melee combat. Krieg will be available in May for $10 (or 800 Microsoft Points for you Xbox 360 owners).
But sooner than that will be a new DLC content drop known as “The Ultimate Vault Hunter’s Pack.” Set for release on April 2, the pack will include a new gear tier, Pearlescent, an increase to the level cap (you can go to 61 now), and a third playthrough mode, the titular “Ultimate Vault Hunter’s” mode. The pack has been priced at $5 (or 400 points worth of Microsoft funny money). But if you’re a Season Pass holder, you’ll get it for free.
Gearbox will show Borderlands 2’s sixth character class at PAX East
Gearbox Software has officially released the trailer for Borderlands 2‘s sixth character and confirmed the melee brawler will make his debut at this year’s PAX East convention.
The reveal will happen during this year’s Gearbox Software panel, which is scheduled for Sunday, March 24 at 12:30 PM. The developer will also talk about the upcoming level cap increase in Borderlands 2 and more “huge exclusives and massive surprises.”
Gearbox adding sixth playable character to Borderlands 2
Gearbox showcased a new trailer for the next piece of Borderlands 2 downloadable content at this weekend’s SXSW Interactive festival. The trailer promises a new playable character who is proficient in melee attacks as well as being a bringer of mayhem:
Deep beneath Pandora… An experiment has escaped…Bandits beware… A new vault hunter is coming… More mayhem awaits…
It’s unknown if this new character will be released as part of the next full expansion or as a separate download like Gaige the Mechromancer.
New Releases: Etrian Odyssey IV, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus, More
Atlus’ DS RPG series makes the leap to the 3DS as Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan leads this week’s look at what’s new in stores. Also available this week, Ryu Hayabusa returns to a Sony portable platform (along with three beautiful assistants: Ayane, Rachel, and Momiji) in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus for the Vita.
If you’ve skipped the DLC content for Borderlands 2 so far, but don’t want to wait for the inevitable Game of the Year Edition, you might be interested in checking out the Borderlands 2: Add-On Content Pack for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It smushes the first two expansions and the Mechromancer character class onto a single disc (which requires Borderlands 2) for a decent price. Motorcycle racing game Mud: FIM Motocross World Championship is also available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 this week.
Finally, this week sees the release of the Kinect-powered Top Hand Rodeo Tour, which I imagine just asks you to do the “Gangnam Style” dance in your living room under the guise of taming a bucking bull.
