Journey, The Walking Dead lead 2013 BAFTA nominations
Journey and The Walking Dead continue to rack up nominations in the remaining “Best Games of 2012” competitions.
This time, the two titles have dominated their peers during the nominations phase of the 2013 BAFTA Awards. “The British Oscars” have been handing out their Games Awards since 2003 and thegamecompany’s Journey leads the pack this year with nine nominations. Telltale’s The Walking Dead wasn’t far behind with seven nominations.
Both games are up for the coveted “Best Game” award, along with Dishonored, Far Cry 3, FIFA Soccer 13, and Mass Effect 3.
They might not have earned a spot in the “Best Game” category, but many of 2012’s other big hitters scored multiple nominations at the BAFTAs. Borderlands 2 received four nominations while Assassin’s Creed III and Call of Duty: Black Ops II both received three.
The 2013 BAFTAs will be handed out on March 5. You can find the complete list of nominees after the break. (more…)
Borderlands 2 Add-On Content disc coming February 26 for $30
2K Games and Gearbox Software plan to give gamers another way to pick up the first three pieces of downloadable content for Borderlands 2.
The publisher and the developer will release the first Borderlands 2 Add-On Content Pack for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on February 26. It’ll come priced at $29.99 and include the first two campaign expansions, “Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty” and “Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage,” as well as the fifth character class, the Mechromancer. Be warned, the Add-On Content Pack won’t work unless you own a copy of Borderlands 2.
Purchasing all three DLC packs separately would total $40. So if you’ve held off on purchasing Borderlands 2 DLC until now, the Add-On Content Pack would be a better deal.
Borderlands 2: Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt now available
Today’s the day! Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, the latest Borderlands 2 DLC, is available now for PC, PlayStation3, and Xbox 360. There are brand new environments, deadlier Hyperion technology (the deadliest you’ve ever seen, if the trailer is to be believed), and “buttloads of new loot.” Buttloads?!?! I cannot wait to get home and fire up my PS3! Professor Nakayama: it’s on.
Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt is priced at $9.99, or comes included with the Season Pass, if you picked one up.
Journey lands 11 nominations at 2013 DICE Awards
The Interactive Achievement Awards will be sporting a new look in 2013, but they’ve managed to recognize the great games all the same. Now known as the DICE Awards, Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences revealed their picks for the best games of the year this morning, nominating thatgamecompany’s Journey for an astonishing 11 awards.
The game is up for… deep breath… Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction, Outstanding Innovation in Gaming, Downloadable Game of the Year, Casual Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, Outstanding Achievement in Gameplay Engineering, Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay, Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition, Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design, and Outstanding Achievement in Story.
Other Game of the Year contenders include Borderlands 2, Far Cry 3, The Walking Dead, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. All four of those games are up for multiple awards, along with other big hitters like Halo 4 (six nominations) and Dishonored (five nominations).

The complete list of nominees can be found after the break. (more…)
Call of Duty: Black Ops II was the best-selling game in all of 2012 too
As the best-selling game of the month in November and December, Call of Duty: Black Ops II has consistently blown away the competition since its November 13th launch. But seven weeks was all it needed to stand tall as the best-selling game of all of 2012.
The complete list doesn’t include many surprises. Like the list of bestsellers from December 2012, no original games are included in the full-year list. Microsoft’s Halo 4 was the only platform-exclusive title to make the list and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was the only 2011 release able to retain its spot in the top ten.
In terms of retail sales, 2012 was a down year for the game industry. Retail sales of games, accessories, and consoles (not counting used games/hardware or downloadable games/content) totaled $13.26 billion, which was off 20% from 2011’s $16.99 billion total. perhaps this Fall’s expected launch of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 will kickstart the industry in 2013.
The complete 2012 top ten can be found after the break. (more…)

The Apocalypse List
The bombs have fallen, the economy has collapsed, food is scarce, the zombie hordes are scratching at your door, and you’ve boarded yourself up in a bunker that’ll stand for a hundred years. What better way to spend your time in “The Vault” than by playing Warp Zoned’s favorite games from 2012? It doesn’t matter if you call it a “Top Ten List” or “Our Favorites From 2012,” but these are the games we plan to keep playing even if there was no game industry to keep making games. (more…)
