Call of Duty XP 2011 “fan experience” set for September 2-3
The Call of Duty franchise is Activision’s billion-dollar baby and it’ll be celebrated this September in the very first CoD “fan experience.” Call of Duty XP 2011 will be held on Labor Day Weekend, September 2nd and 3rd, in Los Angeles. For two days, the festival will immerse 6,000 fans in all things Call of Duty, including an announcement of the full feature for Call of Duty Elite and the world premiere of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3‘s multiplayer mode.
“From the high production values of our live, immersive events – all the way to the smallest details in every design and activity – we’re pulling out all the stops to make Call of Duty XP the ultimate gathering for the global community of Call of Duty fans,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “The celebration will immerse attendees in a Call of Duty experience unlike anything they’ve ever seen before. Over the course of two days, gamers can trade Call of Duty war stories, experience the official unveiling of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer and the full feature functionality of Call of Duty Elite, as well as enjoy world-class entertainment and compete head-to-head for some serious cash prizes.”
Attendees at Call of Duty XP 2011 will experience a ton of other exciting events as well:
- $1 million Call of Duty: Black Ops tournament
- Discussion panels and Q&A with Call of Duty developers
- Onsite Call of Duty armory and museum
- Paintball matches on a life-sized Call of Duty multiplayer map
- Speed-run attempts for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2‘s legendary “The Pit”
- More attractions to be announced
Tickets for Call of Duty XP 2011 will be available July 19 for $150 apiece. All proceeds will benefit The Call of Duty Endowment, Activision’s organization that helps soldiers transition to civilian life.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies go “In the Jungle” in Annihilation DLC
“Call of the Dead” from the Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation DLC was a hard act to follow for Treyarch. Instead of trying to up the star-studded cast of its previous effort, they decided to just bring you more interesting Zombies settings with new gameplay mechanics. Ride on a rail or down an aqueduct while you cut down the endless horde of the undead with all new weapons. Annihilation will cost you $15 and arrives on Xbox Live tomorrow with a future date for PC and PS3.
Activision serves up Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation trailer
Activision will be adding the Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation Map Pack to the Xbox Live Marketplace in a few days. To get our juices flowing, they’ve also unleashed this trailer that highlights some of the biggest kills available in “Hangar 18” (located within Area 51), “Drive-In” (a 60s American Drive-In theater), “Silo” (a massive secret Soviet nuclear missile site) and “Hazard” (a coastal golf course on the cliff sides of Cuba). Also, check out the zombie monkey that welcomes you to “Shangri-La,” the new Zombies Mode map. Everything is better with zombie monkeys!
The Annihilation Map Pack will be made available for Xbox 360 players on June 28 with the PC and PS3 releases to follow soon.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Limited Edition bundle strikes June 28 with first map pack
If you haven’t already picked up a copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops, now’s your chance. Starting June 28, retailers will be selling the Black Ops Limited Edition, bundling the first DLC map pack, First Strike, in with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. Arguably, that’s a $75 value for just $59.99, but in light of other deals I can’t really say it’s a steal.
In any case, the Black Ops DLC support marches on, as the Annihilation pack will be hitting Xbox Live Marketplace on June 28. And be sure to look out for yours truly on the PSN for the Double XP weekend beginning July 1.
Activision unveils Annihilation map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops
Confirming everything from yesterday’s leak, Activision has announced that the third map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops will be available to download from the Xbox Live Marketplace on June 28. As always, the pack will be priced at 1200 Microsoft Points ($15).
The CoD: Black Ops Annihilation Map Pack will consist of four multiplayer maps (Hangar 18, Drive-In, Silo and Hazard) and a new “Zombies experience” known as Shangri-La.
“Shangri-La [is] an exotic and mysterious map filled with deadly traps, dark secrets and innovative gameplay that will challenge even the most daring zombie hunters,” said Treyarch Studio Head, Mark Lamia.
If you plan on picking up the map pack, you might also want to know Activision plans to pair it with a Double XP Weekend beginning Friday, July 1.
The Annihilation Map Pack will also be released for the PC and PS3 at a later date.
Leaked photo details Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack #3
Black Ops 24/7 reports that a leaked photo, possibly from promotional materials, has outed some of the details of a third DLC map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops. The poster lists four multiplayer maps in a similar style to the Escalation pack: Hanger 18, Hazard, Drive-In, Silo, and an unreadable new Zombies level. The advertisement seems to be one of GameStop’s, as the text “downloadable content is better at GameStop,” can be seen above the map captures.
This would continue the precedent set in Call of Duty: World at War, making Treyarch the CoD studio that supports its games with three healthy doses of DLC. I imagine it’ll be hard to top Call of the Dead, but I’m excited to get into the new multiplayer maps.
