Dark Souls “Full Prologue” is full of demons, dragons, darkness

Over the last few weeks, Namco Bandai has slowly unveiled the Dark Souls “Prologue” in three creepifying parts. Now, to celebrate the game’s appearance at the Tokyo Game Show, they’ve released the “Full Prologue” to fulfill your dreams of demons, dragons and darkness.

Dark Souls will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 4. That’s just a little over two weeks away!

Dark Souls’ “Prologue: Part 3” trailer is the most metal thing you’ll see all week

Namco Bandai continues to stream out the Dark Souls prologue trailers with part three. Now, we get to see the giant, boney monster-thingy named Nit staring at the fire in his hands despite lacking eyeballs. If there’s one hope I have for the game, it’s that every hit on Nit will count as a headshot since his torso is made of skulls. We then see him “unleashing a miasma of death and disease” before cutting to a company of knights throwing lightning bolts at dragons.

If Namco Bandai would allow it, I’d like to form a metal band and use these images for an album cover. Dark Souls is set for a US release on October 4, 2011.

And in case you missed them, don’t forget to check out Prologue: Part 1 and Prologue: Part 2.

Dark Souls “Prologue” videos continue to creep us out

Namco Bandai has released the second part of the prologue to Dark Souls and it’s just as creepifying as part one. I mean, it’s a skeleton, but it’s not a skeleton! This dark tale will be continued with a third part soon.

Dark Souls will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 4.

Dark Souls “Prologue” trailer is coming for your soul

Here is part one of the Dark Souls prologue for your enjoyment. Did I say for your enjoyment? I meant for it to crush all hope of a future and rip your eyes from your eye-holes. There is no gameplay, so you don’t have to throw your controller through the screen in frustration. Don’t worry, it promises to be even more of a challenge than Demon’s Souls. God help us.

Have your soul devoured October 7th on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Namco Bandai to publish Dark Souls, Armored Core V in America

Namco Bandai is teaming up with From Software to bring two of the developer’s most anticipated titles to North America. The Ridge Racer publisher has signed on to release Dark Souls in 2011 and Armored Core V in 2012.

Armored Core V is still over a year away, but From Software is promising that it will revolutionize the series with a stronger emphasis on tactics and geography that straight up shooting. The online multiplayer mode will also receive a facelift with team play and “huge battles on a global scale.”

Darks Souls is the spiritual sequel to From Software’s sleeper hit from 2009, Demon’s Souls. Like it’s predecessor, it’ll be an action RPG “set in a rich, dark fantasy universe.” But unlike it’s predecessor, it’ll be available for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. You can check out the game’s first trailer after the break. (more…)

New details emerge for From Software’s Project Dark, officially titled Dark Souls

At the last Tokyo Game Show, From Software revealed their next game, tentatively titled Project Dark. As the spiritual successor to their last big hit Demon’s Souls (which was the spiritual successor to King’s Field), it should come as no surprise that the game is now officially titled as Dark Souls. The game will have familiar aspects from Demon’s Souls’ characteristic co-op and versus online play, as you can feel the “gentle presence” of others playing the game and leave behind messages. Instead of a set of classes to choose at the beginning, players will be able to develop their own characters, utilizing an even wider selection of equipment and magic. Also gone is the concept of a central hub connecting the various levels, as this time they will all be seamlessly connected; when you step out of a cave and see a castle in the distance, you’ll eventually be able to get inside the walls and see what’s hidden within. The one thing definitely carrying over from Demon’s Souls is the grueling difficulty and immensely satisfying sense of achievement through learning from your mistakes.

I burned lots of hours on an imported version of Demon’s Souls before it came out in the states, and I’m embarrassed to say I still haven’t finished the game. Looks like I’ll have some grinding to do. Dark Souls comes out later this year on PlayStation 3 in Japan, with Namco Bandai publishing the game in the west for both PS3 and Xbox 360.
