Dead Space 3 WILL recognize your screams of sheer terror
A few weeks ago, EA and Visceral revealed that the Xbox 360 version of Dead Space 3 would include Kinect support for voice commands. At the time I wondered, “will it recognize your screams of sheer terror?” Apparently, the answer is yes, yes it will.
Executive Producer Steve Papoutsis recently sat down with CVG and confirmed that swearing and screaming at the Necromoprh terrors within the game will prompt a response from your Xbox 360 copy of Dead Space 3…
CVG: When we think of horror games we think of people screaming and swearing… will Kinect pick up on our feedback?
Papoutsis: Yes! We actually have some commands that people will need to figure out. But there are commands where you might be in a certain situation and you might yell a specific expletive and it might behave in a way that you want it to. We definitely have done some things there…
Wow. Innovation of the year!
Dead Space 3 demo coming January 22; Xbox 360 owners can get it a week early
Dead Space 3 will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on February 5. But if you want to give the first co-op entry in the series a tryout before you buy it, you’ll be happy to know that EA is adding a demo to the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network on January 22. And if you own an Xbox 360, you can download it a week early (on January 15) by signing up for early access to the demo at demo.DeadSpace.com.
In the demo, players will be thrust into deep space terror when unwilling hero – Isaac Clarke – and all-new co-op companion – Sergeant John Carver – crash land on Tau Volantis, an unforgiving ice planet teeming with Necromorphs.
If you need a refreshed course on the entire Dead Space saga, be sure to check out the “Story So Far” trailer that EA released yesterday.
Dead Space 3 adds Kinect functionality
I wonder if it’ll recognize your screams of sheer terror?
Electronic Arts has announced that Dead Space 3 will ship with Kinect support when it’s released for the Xbox 360 on February 8, 2013. Players will be able to use voice commands during co-op play to “share health or ammo, find objectives, revive one another and more.”
“The voice commands in Dead Space 3 give players a unique way to take down the terror, whether they choose to face the Necromorphs alone in single-player, or alongside a friend with drop-in / drop-out co-op,” said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer on Dead Space 3. “Dead Space 3 delivers the action-horror experience our fans have come to know and love. And with the ability to survive the adventure alone, with a friend, or with Kinect, we’re excited about extending the spine-tingling Dead Space experience to a whole new audience of players.”
Dead Space will also be available for the PC and PS3.
Dead Space 3 set for February 5, 2013; Limited Edition announced
Gamescom 2012 opens tomorrow in Cologne, Germany and many game publishers have begun to push out new announcements ahead of the big European show. For example, EA has announced that Dead Space 3 will be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on February 5, 2013.
Not content to just announced the release date, the publisher has also confirmed that everyone who pre-orders the horror title will receive an upgraded “Limited Edition” complete with bonus gear:
“First Contact” Bundle
First Contact Suit: This unique EVA (Extra-Vehicular Activity) suit was built by the SCAF (Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces) for encounters with “foreign entities.” It sports a flamboyant golden finish to provide protection from long-term space exposure and thick armor for… unspecified reasons. The suit was given the nickname “First Contact” by the scientists who made it.
Negotiator Weapon: While technically classified by the SCAF as a “scientific instrument,” the gold-plated “Negotiator” is loaded with some surprisingly aggressive hardware. The overclocked, top-mounted Tesla Beam is capable of bursting a man-sized organism into several pieces with a single shot. The bottom-mounted Linegun appears to have been built with the sole purpose of cleanly dismembering organic tissue from a distance.
“Witness the Truth” Bundle
Witness Suit: These insulated suits were worn by a SCAF deep dig team assigned to exhume the darkest secrets of Tau Volantis. Whatever they found locked deep in the ice changed them forever. When they emerged weeks later, they were covered head to toe in strange graffiti and claimed to be “Witnesses to the Truth.”
Evangelizer Weapon: A modification of the standard AL-2 used by the Sovereign Colonies Legionaries, this version sports a souped-up AL-2g assault rifle on the top with an Emerson 2100 “Big Boy” tactical shotgun on the bottom. The surviving “Witnesses” of the SCAF deep dig team dubbed it the Evangelizer and decorated them top to bottom with strange symbols.
Be afraid Necromorphs, be very afraid.
Dead Space 3 developers tell you how not to die in this 20-minute gameplay video
Those of you eagerly anticipating the next title in the pant-staining Dead Space series should watch the above video as Executive Producer Steve Papoutsis narrates twenty minutes of glorious gameplay footage from Dead Space 3.
The footage takes place around Act Two of the game; assuming the chiseled Steve is using movie lingo, about a third of the way in. It appears to show Isaac and his partner Carver having survived a crash landing on the Hoth-esque ice planet Tau Volantis. The new hostile environment brings with it a host of new, scarier necromorphs for Isaac to dispose of with typical messy fashion.
Dead Space 3 will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in February 2013.
EA @ E3 12: Dead Space 3 with Isaac Clarke, co-op, MASSIVE NECROPMORPHS confirmed
Dead Space 3 is already on my want list, and the EA press conference made it that much more painful. It’s got everything a successful survival horror game – hell, third-person shooter game – should have. Drop-in, drop-out co-op? Check. Massive Necromorphs? Check. Isaac Clarke??? Check plus. And apparently they’ve found “the source.”
EA showed off some gameplay, which was absolutely over-the-top – intense battle, new item display as you’re picking up ammo and switching guns, and a lot of cursing. They showed off the co-op option, with two players fighting some of the aforementioned massive Necromorphs. Player one had the regular blue green life bar on his back, while the drop-in second player had one that was slighter darker blue.
But the best news? The game will be out in February 2013 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. February! That’s nine months away. Bring it on, Visceral Games!
DeadSpace.com confirms Dead Space 3 with hidden text, graphic novel-style trailer
A few weeks ago, EA revealed that a new entry in the Dead Space series will be released during the company’s current fiscal year (which ends March 31, 2013). Today, the publisher revealed a new teaser trailer for the game and confirmed that it’s definitely Dead Space 3.
While the trailer (which you can find above) doesn’t come out and say it belongs to Dead Space 3, the source code of DeadSpace.com is littered with hidden text revealing the title as well as confirmaing the existence of a co-op mode. But one thing EA is willing to publicly show us is the first details of the game’s plot, which do not include everyone’s favorite necromorph hunter, Isaac Clarke:
While patrolling the planet Uxor, Earthgov Sergeant John Carver witnesses an attack on the Marker Site he guards which changes his life forever. John must now fight his way through a colony now in complete chaos as he begins to discover how important he is in fighting the Necromorph plague.
This is just the start of John Carver’s saga in the Dead Space Universe.
A countdown clock on the site further confirms that Dead Space 3 will receive a proper debut during next week’s E3 Expo.
