Diablo III: Reaper of Souls will be released on March 25
Blizzard has announced that the first expansion for Diablo III, Reaper of Souls, will be released for the PC and Mac on March 25. The expansion will include a battle against Death himself as well as an increased Level Cap and the Crusader, an all-new character class.
Reaper of Souls will be released in three different packages, a $39.99 standard edition and two special editions. The $59.99 Digital Deluxe Edition will include the game and a variety of in-game bonus items:
- Exclusive Helm and Weapon-Transmogrification Recipes: Players can distinguish their characters among the champions of Sanctuary.
- Spectral Hound Minion: Players can summon Spectral Hound to keep their adventurers company on their epic journey
- World of Warcraft In-Game Companion Pet: The Treasure Goblin, ready to compete in Pet Battles
- Three Additional Character Slots
- StarCraft II Crusader-Themed Battle.net Portraits and Malthael-Themed Decals
Finally, the retail-exclusive Collector’s Edition will include the game, all of the in-game items from the Digital Deluxe Edition and a “gorgeous full-color hardcover art book, a behind-the-scenes Blu-ray/DVD two-disc set, and a mouse pad bearing the impenetrable visage of Malthael, the Angel of Death.” The Collector’s Edition has been priced at $79.99.
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is also in development for the PS4 as part of the Ultimate Evil Edition bundle. It will be released later in 2014 and Blizzard has promised they will release more details soon.
PS4 will receive Diablo III/Reaper of Souls “Ultimate Evil Edition” bundle
We all expected it, but Blizzard has confirmed that next year’s release of Diablo III on the PS4 will include the Reaper of Souls expansion. The BlizzCon 2013 announcement also confirmed that the bundle will be known as the “Ultimate Evil Edition.”
Players of Diablo III on the PS4 can look forward to experiencing the revamped loot system, same-screen co-op, direct character control, and online play of the PS3/Xbox 360 version. And the new Reaper of Souls content (including the Crusader character class, Adventure Mode, the Mystic Artisan, and Nephalem Rifts) will make the “Ultimate Evil Edition” the most complete version of Diablo III available for consoles.
Blizzard has yet to announce if Reaper of Souls will be released for the Xbox 360 or if Diablo III will be available on the Xbox One in any form. Even if the game is coming to Microsoft’s console, due to Blizzard’s deal with Sony, the publisher’s radio will likely stay silent for the forseeable future.
New Diablo III: Reaper of Souls trailer shows off the expansion’s many features
BlizzCon opens today in Anaheim, California and to get you in the right mood, Blizzard has released a new trailer for Diablo III: Reaper of Souls highlighting the expansion’s many new features:
- Collect Bounties in “Adventure Mode.”
- Battle a seemingly unending wave of enemies emerging from “Nephalem Rifts.”
- Organize your friends in “Clans and Groups.”
- Visit a new Artisan, “The Mystic,” to enchant and transmorgrify your gear.
- And become even more of a Paragon with the “Updated Paragon System.”
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls will be available sometime next year for the PC and PS4.
GTA5 steals our hearts (and money) as the best-selling game of September 2013
Rockstar Games was on a quest for booty last month as Grand Theft Auto V was declared the best-selling game of the month by The NPD Group (via Joystiq). Not only did GTA5 sell a ridiculous amount of copies, but the title actually raised the fortunes of the entire video game industry. In September 2012, the game industry recorded $848 million in retail sales. Last month? $1.07 billion. Whoa.
The rest of the top ten includes a mixture of new releases and August holdovers. NBA 2K14 (#3), Diablo III (#4), FIFA 14 (#5), Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMix (#6), and NHL 14 (#8) represent the new releases while Madden NFL 25 (#2), Disney Infinity (#7), and Saints Row IV (#10) all remained on the list from August. The retail version of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition (at #9) was the only game with a pre-August release date to crack the top ten.
If you’d prefer your monthly NPD report in list format, we’ve got that too:
Bestselling Games in September 2013
1. Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360, PS3)
2. Madden NFL 25 (Xbox 360, PS3)
3. NBA 2K14 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
4. Diablo III (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
5. FIFA 14 (Xbox 360, PS3, Vita)
6. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMix (PS3)
7. Disney Infinity (Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, Wii U, 3DS)
8. NHL 14 (Xbox 360, PS3)
9. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition (Xbox 360)
10. Saints Row IV (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls coming to PS4 and playable at BlizzCon 2013
Blizzard previously hinted that Diablo III: Reaper of Souls would make its way to consoles sooner rather than later, but today the publisher announced that the expansion is officially in development for the PS4.
In addition to the console confirmation, Blizzard announced Reaper of Souls (and the Crusader character class) will be playable on the BlizzCon 2013 show floor. More than 300 demo machines will be dedicated to the PC version of the game while a slightly smaller number will showcase the DualShock 4-controlled PS4 version.
It’s currently not known if Diablo III: Reaper of Souls will also be released for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Blizzard also did not confirm if Reaper of Souls would get a simultaneous PC/PS4 launch or when the PS4 of Diablo III will be released.
BlizzCon 2013 will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center on November 8 and 9. If you can’t make it to the show, Blizzard is selling Virtual Tickets to video footage on Battle.net of all the action.
Diablo III, Rayman Legends, Castle of Illusion, more added to PS Store
The devil is in the details with this week’s PlayStation Store update as Blizzard has finally released Diablo III for the PS3. The downloadedable edition of the game is now available, day-and-date with the retail release.
Also available this week is a pair of acclaimed platformers. Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse brings a high definition makeover to the beloved Genesis platformer and Rayman Legends brings the limbless hero back to the PS3 and Vita in a game that was originally slated for an exclusive release on the Wii U.
But wait, there’s more. There’s the unqiue puzzler Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (now available on the PS3 for the first time), Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate (the definitive edition of the game), and many more. You can find more information about all of these games after the break. And, as always, you can visit the PlayStation Blog for a full list of this week’s new game add-ons. (more…)
New Releases: Diablo III, Rayman Legends, Total War: Rome II, More
The Fall is here! The drought is over! Let’s talk about new releases!
This week, Blizzard’s Diablo III has finally been released for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It feels the console of their hack and slash game has been in development for ages, but it was only announced this past February at the Sony’s PS4 reveal.
Also available this week is Rayman Legends. The game was originally scheduled to be released this Spring exclusively for the Wii U, but Ubisoft sent it back to the development team and asked them to also push out additional editions of the game for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Vita.
Finally, we’ve got the PC-exclusive release of Total War: Rome II from Creative Assembly. The developers have claimed the war simulation is their best yet, but you can try it for yourself if you’re attending this weekend’s PAX Prime in Seattle. In fact, all of these games are playable on the show floor today and tomorrow. How ’bout that?
You can find more new releases after the break. (more…)
Blizzard teases Diablo III: Reaper of Souls will come to consoles at some point
Speaking to Polygon during this weekend’s Gamescom expo, Game Director Josh Mosqueira hinted that Diablo III: Reaper of Souls wlll likely come to consoles at some point:
“Our philosophy has always been we work on one project at a time,” said Mosqueira. “We’ve got Diablo 3 on PC, we released it and then a small team splintered off to work on Diablo for the current consoles. Now the team’s really focused on Reaper of Souls for PC. So if you look at the past, you can probably infer what the future might bring. We don’t have any announcements at this point.”
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is currently on track for a 2014 launch and it is the first expansion to the PC version of Diablo III, which was released in May 2012. The PS3 and Xbox 360 editions of Diablo III will be released next week. So it might be a while before Reaper of Souls does any reaping on the PS3 or Xbox 360.
