Nintendo @ E3 13: Monolith Soft’s X will be available in 2014
Monlith Soft is back with another action RPG with transforming mechs and a fantasy/futuristic feel. X looks gorgeous in high definition and includes a “large-scale and seamless open world.”
There’s still no word on if its a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles, but we do know that it’ll be available in 2014.
Nintendo @ E3 13: Super Mario 3D World features Cat Mario, four-player multiplayer
After a quick jaunt through Pokemon X/Y, Nintendo wasted no time getting to the big stuff, such as Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U. A follow-up to Super Mario 3D Land, the game is a 2D/3D hybrid with four-player multiplayer. Players can play as Mario, Luigi, Toad, or Princess Peach and each character has unique abilities (a la Super Mario Bros. 2) and “personalities.”
The four are shown running through the Mushroom Kingdom, but also white water rafting down a treacherous river and we’re introduced to a new powerup: Cat Mario. Cat Mario can climb walls, scratch enemies, and will surely be the toast of the Internet before too long.
Super Mario 3D World will be out this December.
Secret Ponchos will be released on the PS4 in 2014
Secret Ponchos was one of our favorite games on display at this year’s PAX East show, so it was great seeing the guys from Switchblade Monkeys on stage at Sony’s E3 Press Conference to announce that the game will be released on the PS4.
This morning, the Monkeys have confirmed that Secret Ponchos will be released sometime in 2014, which is a bit of a delay from its originally scheduled Summer 2013 release. Of course, if it was somehow released for the PS4 in Summer 2013 that would bend the laws of space and time. And I don’t think anyone wants that.
A blog post on the game’s official website reveals that a PC version of the game is also a priority for the developers: “We’re doing our best to bring Secret Ponchos to the PC.”
This is what the PS4 console looks like
Sony @ E3 13: PlayStation 4 will be $399.99
Well, Andrew House, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, just dropped the bomb. The PlayStation 4 will release this holiday season for $399.99 (or £349 in the UK or €399 in Europe).
That sound you here is Phil Harrison’s jaw hitting the ground. Oh, you also heard the crowd at the Sony Press Conference go absolutely bonkers. No joke, there was Arsenio Hall-style woofing.
Get those pre-orders ready, gamers. The next generation starts in five months (give or take).
Sony @ E3 13: Indie developers/games highlighted
During their E3 Press Conference, Sony spent a good deal of time showcasing various indie developers and their games, all coming to the PlayStation 4. The developers/games shown were:
- Adventure game Don’t Starve (Klei Entertainment)

- IGF-nominated Octodad: Dadliest Catch (Young Horses)
- Overhead arena shooter Secret Ponchos (Switchblade Monkeys)
- Puzzle platformer Ray’s the Dead (Ragtag Studios)

All I have to say is… there’s my buddy.
Sony @ E3 13: Used games on PS4 OK, system not always online
SCEA President Jack Tretton just announced during Sony’s E3 Press Conference that the PS4 will support used games. Game sharing is also as simple as giving the game disc to your friend. Furthermore, the PS4 will not be required to check-in online, like the Xbox One requires.
The announcement resulted in a huge pop from the audience.
Sony @ E3 13: Mad Max game announced for PS4
A very gritty trailer for a new Mad Max game for the PS4 was shown during Sony’s conference today. Not much was shown, but I’m sure we can expect open-world, Borderlands-esque gameplay.
The game will be developed by Avalanche Studios, confirming rumors that we’ve been hearing for quite a while now.
