Itagaki’s Devil’s Third is now a Wii U exclusive
Um, what?
Tomonobu Itagaki, the Director of Ninja Gaiden and the former guiding force behind Team Ninja, has revealed that his next game, Devil’s Third, will be available exclusively for the Wii U. Speaking to IGN, Itagaki said: “[Nintendo] really understood my vision, so I felt I really had to work with them.”
Devil’s Third has been in development at Itagaki’s Valhalla Studios since 2009. THQ was originally attached as publisher, but after their bankruptcy the action title was left in limbo. Nintendo swooping in to save it is surprising, to say the least, but they did they same thing with Bayonetta 2, which is a similarly styled sword-and-shooting game.
Devil’s Third will be released sometime this year.
Hyrule Warriors will hack and slash its way into stores on September 26
Hyrule Warriors, Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda/Dynasty Warriors crossover will be available in stores on September 26. In addition to a final release date, Nintendo released a new trailer for Hyrule Warriors today, which showcases the game’s four playable characters: Link, Zelda, Midna, and Impa.
The E3 trailer even teases an appearance from Ganondorf, so get ready for at one suitably epic boss battle.
Bethesda teases Doom 4 at E3 ahead of QuakeCon 2014 full reveal
Doom! Doooooom! Doooooooooooooooooom!
Bethesda Softworks has unveiled a teaser trailer for Doom 4 (which, like all reboots, will just be known by the singular Doom) at their E3 Press Conference. The minute-long teaser gives us our first look at the squishy skin and high-tech armaments of a Cyberdemon, but is otherwise short on gameplay.
That’s because this E3 announcement is actually just an appetizer ahead of Bethesda’s full reveal of the game, which will take place at QuakeCon 2014. This year’s QuakeCon will run from July 17 through July 20.
Doom 4 (sorry, not calling it Doom just yet) is the first Doom game in development at id Software without co-founder John Carmack, who left last year to join OculusVR. It’s in development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One and is currently without a release date.
Mario Maker lets you become Shigeru Miyamoto in 2015
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has created a lot of games over the last three decades. Some of them have been forgotten, but a lot of them will go down in history as some of the greatest game ideas of all time. After being in the game development game for so long, Mr. Miyamoto’s next idea was probably inevitable… he wants the players themselves to design the next great Mario game.
In Mario Maker, players will be able to create and edit their own Mario courses. And with the flick of an icon, would-be game designers will be able to toggle their course’s graphical style from Super Mario Bros. to New Super Mario Bros. U and back again:
Mario Maker offers up a Super Mario Bros. dream: the ability for players to use the Wii U GamePad to design levels from scratch. Place blocks and enemies anywhere and play through the level. With the tap of an icon, users can even switch the visual style between a classic 8-bit Super Mario Bros. look and the world of New Super Mario Bros. U in the E3 version.
Mario Maker is currently just a working title, but it’ll be available for the Wii U sometime in the first half of 2015.
Nintendo’s X becomes Xenoblade Chronicles X in E3 2014 trailer
Hey! Hey, you! You heard of this X game that Monolith Soft is developing and Nintendo is publishing? You know, that one that looks just like Xenoblade Chronicles? Guess what, it’s actually a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles known as Xenoblade Chronicles X! Doesn’t that just blow your mind?
Sarcasm aside, Nintendo and Monolith Soft gave us our latest look at X (now known as Xenoblade Chronicles X) during their E3 Digital Event this afternoon. The Wii U-exclusive action RPG is looking as sharp as ever as it’ll be available sometime in 2015.
LittleBigPlanet 3 E3 2014 trailer has all of Sackboy’s new friends
When the screens went dark at Sony’s E3 Press Conference, then lit back up again with LittleBigPlanet 3 plastered all over the screens, I made some kind of inhuman choked noise and lost my senses for a moment. Then, when the Media Molecule team up on stage started playing, I curled up into a ball in my chair and just kept saying things like “This is so cute I could die!” and “No!!” and “Joy puke! Joy puuuuke!!” By the end I was crying because I just couldn’t take it. Luckily, the trailer I cried through is now online, and you can watch it above.
Sackboy is joined by Oddsock, Toggle, and Swoop, three unique characters who all add a little something to the experience. Oddsock can wall jump and move faster than Sackboy, meaning he can run on little treadmills to open up areas and let Sackboy get through. Toggle is oversized and can move heavy things as well as stand on pressure plates to open up other areas; he can also shrink down to super tiny and get through little areas inaccessible to anyone else. And Swoop can fly, and can help Sackboy and their buddies out of jams. As they showed each character, I fell apart more and more, because the cuteness was just too much.
LittleBigPlanet is slated to be out sometime in November of this year (!!!) for PlayStation 4. Oh, and did you know you’ll be able to play all those millions of levels that have already been created in the previous games? Just take a few days off in November – you’ll thank me later.
Whoops! Time outs Star Fox for Wii U ahead of Nintendo’s E3 event
Nintendo’s E3 Video Presentation will be available in a little under two hours, but Time Magazine has revealed one of their surprise announcements a might early. The magazine published (and then pulled) an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto where he discusses Star Fox Wii U and its brand new control scheme. The picture to your right appears to show Mr. Miyamoto piloting an Arwing by tilting the Wii U GamePad. Players will also be able to control the Landmaster Tank and a new helicopter-like vehicle that requires two people to pilot. According to Time, Star Fox Wii U is “at least a year away.”
The interview also mentions two experimental games, “Project Giant Robot” and “Project Guard.”
“Project Giant Robot” is a fighting game where players will bob and weave while holding the Wii U GamePad and punch or grab with the analog sticks. Meanwhile, “Project Guard” is a twist on the popular tower defense genre where players use the Wii U GamePad to jump from camera to camera within a castle to blast away at encroaching waves of enemies.
Hopefully, we’ll learn more about these games at Nintendo’s noontime (Eastern Time) event.
