Platinum Games will debut an unannounced title at E3 2015

platinumgames-header

Platinum Games, the developer behind Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101, will reveal an unannounced and never-before-seen game at this year’s E3 Expo as part of IGN’s Live coverage.

The reveal, which will include “an extended look at gameplay,” is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16 at 6:00 PM (Eastern Time). Your guess is as good as mine, but it literally could be anything. Platinum loves creating new sandboxes to play in, such as the Xbox One-exclusive Scalebound, which is being published by Microsoft and will likely be released sometime next year. But the developer isn’t averse to creating sequels and side-stories to beloved franchises, like when Konami asked them to develop 2013’s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

So what are you waiting for? Get to the wild speculation!

Mega Man Legacy Collection collects Mega Man 1-6 on PC, PS4, Xbox One (and 3DS later)

Capcom has announced that Mega Man will make his glorious return this Summer… in yet another compilation of his NES adventures.

Mega Man Legacy Collection will compile the first six games in the classic franchise in a downloadable package for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One this Summer. The collection will also be released for the 3DS, sometime in the Fall/Winter. Capcom also announced they will bring a playable demo of Mega Man Legacy Collection to this year’s E3 Expo.

Mega Man Legacy Collection will be developed by Digital Eclipse, a production house with a lasting legacy of bringing classic games to current consoles. The team plans to rebuild each game in their new Eclipse Engine, which will ensure a “sharp, clean picture” and 1080p visuals.

“Movies have the Criterion Collection, but there hasn’t been anything like that for games,” said Frank Cifaldi, Head of Restoration for Digital Eclipse. “We’re living in the golden age of a brand new form of artistic expression, and we’re not doing a very good job of making sure our games will be available five years from now, let alone fifty. The more we can do right now to take video game preservation seriously, the safer our history will be.”

In addition to the graphical boost, the Legacy Collection will feature a Database section that’ll include information about each boss as well as the ability to jump right into a practice match. Finally, the Museum will include “an exhaustive collection of sketches, art and other visual materials” and a Challenge Mode will package smaller portions of the game into a self-contained gauntlet of ministages. A Mega Man I “Boss Rush” and a six-stage endurance challenge were two of the examples given by the developer.

This isn’t the first time Capcom has put together a Mega Man compilation. The Mega Man Anniversary Collection, which included the first eight games in the franchise, was released for the PS2, GameCube, and Xbox back in 2004.

Battleborn is coming to E3 2015… here’s a new trailer

Honestly, I’m not sure I could explain the differences between Overwatch, BattleCry, and Bloodborn if I had a gun to my head. Overwatch is Blizzard and BattleCry is Bethesda, but they’re both hero-based arena shooters that’ll be available late this year or early next year. As is Gearbox’s Battleborn, which is the game depicted in the trailer above.

Battleborn asks players to step into the stores of 25 “vastly different” heroes and stop a megalomaniac from destroying “the last star” in a story campaign that can be played solo or with up to five players (or two if you’re playing splitscreen):

The universe teeters on the brink of extinction and only the most powerful Battleborn can stop it. This band of badasses will slice swords through enemies, fire massive machine guns, sling powerful spells and much more! Rendain and his evil army must not be allowed to destroy the last star. Do you and your friends have what it takes to save it?

Besides the main storyline, Battleborn also includes a 5v5 competitive multiplayer mode with three different game types: “Incursion,” “Devastation,” and “Meltdown.” I have no idea what any of those are.

Perhaps we’ll all find out together in a few weeks as Gearbox plans to bring Battleborn to the 2015 E3 Expo. Hopefully, we’ll learn a little more about the PC, PS4, and Xbox One game ahead of its Winter release, which is a vague placeholder that could stand in for late 2015 or early 2016.

“What’s next for Gears of War” will debut at E3 2015 as Black Tusk Studios changes its name to The Coalition

Black Tusk Studios is no more. From this day forward, the studio will be known as The Coalition (an allusion to the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) from Gears of War lore). The name change is designed to better convey The Coalition’s dedication to the Gears of War franchise, much like the public links the Halo series with 343 Industries and Turn 10 with the Forza franchise. The Studio Head of The Coalition, Rod Fergusson, further explained the reasons behind the name change in the video above. He also introduced the developer’s new logo.

And speaking of the Gears of War franchise, over on the Xbox Wire, Microsoft has promised that “what’s next for Gears of War” will be revealed on Monday, June 15 during their E3 2015 “Xbox Daily” show at 7:00 PM (Eastern Time). We don’t know if they’ll be announcing the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition or Gears of War 4, but fans of the franchise are surely excited all the same.

The Coalition is actually the second name change for the former “AAAA” developer. Before it took on the Black Tusk moniker in 2012, the studio was known as Microsoft Vancouver. They’ve yet to release a game under any name, but it’s only a matter of time now.

Skylanders SuperChargers adds vehicles to the series this September

Activision has announced Skylanders SuperChargers, the fifth game in the franchise, will be available this September. As rumored earlier this year, SuperChargers will add land, sea, and air vehicles, more than 15 in all, to the Skylanders experience.

Developed by Vicarious Visions, Skylanders SuperChargers will be available on September 20 for the iPad, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. A “unique Skylanders SuperChargers experience” will also be released for the 3DS and Wii on the same day.

Activision will bring Skylanders SuperChargers to this year’s E3 Expo and the publisher plans to reveal quite a bit more about the game during the big show. For now, an extensive “Everything You Need to Know” guide for the game is available after the break and at the Activision Games Blog. (more…)

Fallout 4 officially announced for PC, PS4, Xbox One

As expected, in the aftermath of Bethesda’s countdown, we now have confirmation that Fallout 4 will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. There’s no release date yet, but we did get a pretty great teaser trailer, which you can view above.

In addition to the trailer, Bethesda has opened a teaser site for the game at Fallout4.com. It’s pretty bare for the moment, but I assume it’ll begin filling up once the 2015 E3 Expo opens. And speaking of E3, Bethesda plans to showcase a “World Premiere” gameplay demostration of Fallout 4 during their E3 Press Conference on Sunday, June 14. Fans can watch the entire presentation (which will also include a Doom 4 gameplay demo) at Twitch or YouTube.

“We know what this game means to everyone,” said Todd Howard, Fallout 4’s Director. “The time and technology have allowed us to be more ambitious than ever. We’ve never been more excited about a game, and we can’t wait to share it.”
