Supergiant’s Pyre gets an E3 2016 trailer
Just announced two months ago, Supergiant Games is back with a second look at their upcoming game, Pyre. The E3 2016 trailer introduces us, sort of, to Rita, one of the people who will be fighting in Pyre’s purgatorial arena.
Pyre features original music by Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett, and a video for “Forbidden Knowledge,” the song featured in the trailer, can be found after the break.
Pyre will be released for the PC and PS4 in 2017. (more…)
Trials of the Blood Dragon, Siren, a trio of E3 demos, more added to PS Store
Sony Interactive Entertainment is likely very aware that their fans are indulging in a neverending stream of news and trailers from this year’s E3 Expo, because the PlayStation Store update is pretty bare.
As announced Monday, Ubisoft’s Trials of The Blood Dragon is now available to download for the PS4. The “stunt platformer” takes place in the same universe as Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and combines the side-scrolling motorbike stunts of the Trials series with the pure insanity of the 2013 shooter.
Also available to download this week is Siren, the latest addition to the PS2-On-PS4 series. The horror title wasn’t the most well-known game on the PS2, but it had a dedicated core of fans that will appreciate replaying its horrific scenarios.
But speaking of horror, the real star of this week’s PlayStation Store update is the trio of demos that are now available to try out… and two of them will bring new horror experiences to PS4 players. First up is Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, a teaser for Capcom’s upcoming entry in the long-running survival horror series. The viewpoint has switched to first-person and the entire thing will take place in a dilapidated plantation in the American South, but there’s certainly something scary going on.
Also this week, PS4 players who skipped out on Doom will get to try the game’s first level and see what all the fuss is about. A small taste of Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is also available to download ahead of its PS4 debut later this month.
More information on all of this week’s new release can be found after the break. (more…)
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will also be released for the PC and Xbox One on January 24
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was front and center at Sony’s E3 Press Conference, and for good reason. Capcom is offering a short teaser demo of the game to PlayStation Plus subscribers now, and they’ve promised the game will be compatible with the PlayStation VR headset when it launches on January 24, 2017.
But don’t worry, the first-person horror game will also be released for the PC and Xbox One on the same day.
While Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a complete overhaul of the franchise’s traditional trappings, its storyline will actually take place in the aftermath of Resident Evil 6. According to the Capcom-Unity blog, this mansion is actually a derelict plantation located in the rural south:
A horror story is only as frightening as its setting, and Resident Evil 7 pays tribute to the franchise’s origins on this front as well. Resident Evil 7 is set after the events of Resident Evil 6, taking place in modern day and revolving around a foreboding, derelict plantation mansion in rural America. Players must explore and survive the horrors within the mysterious, sprawling estate.
Players who pre-order Resident Evil 7 will receive access to the Survival Pack, a downloadable add-on which will instantly unlock the game’s hardest difficulty, as well as several in-game items.
Seven new Amiibo figures will be added to the “Super Mario” line in November
While Nintendo has put the majority of their E3 attention on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the consolemaker also unveiled a new wave of Amiibo figures that’ll be added to the “Super Mario” line on November 4.
While most of the figures are new designs for familiar characters (Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Wario, and Roaslina), a few are receiving the Amiibo treatment for the first time (Waluigi, Daisy, and Boo). These seven figures aren’t tied to a specific game, but they’ll be compatible with a wide range of Wii U and 3DS titles such as Mario Party 10 and Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U.
Nintendo will presumably add the figures to their Amiibo Compatibility Chart very soon.
UPDATE: The seven figures will also be compatible with Mario Party: Star Rush, which will be released for the 3DS on November 4.
Insomniac’s Spider-Man game won’t be based on any comic story or the upcoming movie
With Spider-Man: Homecoming set to open in theaters next July, it would be easy to assume that Insomniac’s Spider-Man game is just a movie tie-in, and that it’s also in the works for Microsoft’s Xbox One and Nintendo’s NX… but you would be wrong. Instead, Sony Interactive Entertainment was the driving force behind the title, and they’re the ones who partnered with Insomniac to create the PS4-exclusive title.
And according to Creative Director Bryan Intihar (as told to the PlayStation Blog), this Spider-Man game won’t be based on an existing comic storyline or the upcoming movie:
Spider-Man is one of the most iconic and well-known characters in the world, and we’re thrilled to be given the responsibility to create a brand-new, authentic Spider-Man story. Nope, this isn’t the same Spider-Man you’ve met before, nor is our game based on the upcoming movie. This is a more seasoned Peter Parker who’s more masterful at fighting big crime in New York City. At the same time, he’s struggling to balance his absurdly chaotic personal life and career. All while nine million New Yorkers depend on him for their safety… no pressure indeed.
Insomniac is committed to bringing Spider-Man’s acrobatic abilities and webslinging to life, but they also want to create new “combat and blockbuster set-pieces” for the wallcrawler, as well as an increased focus on traveling through the environment with parkour.
There’s currently no release date for Insomniac’s Spider-Man game, but I’ve embedded the debut trailer up above so you can watch it once more.
Zelda Wii U is officially The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild… here’s the new trailer
After years of teasing, Nintendo officially unveiled The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild today at the E3 Expo, and the “open-air” game looks like everything we could have ever hoped for.
The three-minute clip gives us plenty of clues about the amount of freedom Link will have this time around. He’ll be able to climb mountains and soar off into the sky with a glider. He’ll also be able to run through fields and chop down the mightiest of forests. And he can go swimming and manipulate the environment to confuse enemies.
And all of these new tricks will be needed to discover why Hyrule became a “ruined kingdom”:
Step into a world of discovery, exploration and adventure in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a boundary-breaking new game in the acclaimed series. Travel across fields, through forests and to mountain peaks as you discover what has become of the ruined kingdom of Hyrule in this stunning open-air adventure.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released for the Wii U and NX sometime in 2017.
Crackdown 3 was officially pushed back to 2017
Crackdown 3 was a no-show at Microsoft’s E3 Press Conference this year, and that’s because the game’s release has officially been pushed back to 2017. Writing on Crackdown’s official website yesterday, developer Dave Jones said the delay was necessary to give the team enough time to create a game that matches their vision:
Crackdown 3 is a game built for the future with a multiplayer experience that will redefine what it feels like to play games, and as we continue to work on this, it has become clear that our original timeline of delivering multiplayer to fans this summer, while maintaining the size, scope and quality of the game, would be challenging. Our top priority is to give gamers an experience they have never seen before at a scale never thought possible, and sticking to our original timeline would have compromised that goal.
On the bright side, Crackdown 3 has been added to Microsoft’s Play Anywhere program, so players will be able to purchase the game on either the Xbox One or the PC and then receive a free download of the game on the other platform.
Ubisoft CEO says Beyond Good & Evil 2 is “still on the way” at E3 2016
We’ve haven’t heard much about Beyond Good & Evil 2 since it was first announced all the way back in 2008. Creator Michel Ancel has been relatively quiet about the project, but he has insisted all this time that the game remains in development. And when Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot sat down for an interview with Geoff Keighley yesterday, he delivered a similar report about the status of the game:
Keighley: The next Beyond Good & Evil, is that something that is still going to be in development? Are you gonna do it?
Guillemot: It’s still on the way. It’s something at some point you will see, yes.
Keighley: Is it actively being worked on or is it further out?
Guillemot: It’s difficult to say. Michel is working on it. But he’s doing two games at the same time, so it’s coming along, but he has to spend more time on it so we can see it faster.
So Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development, but we still have no idea when it’ll be completed or what platforms it’ll be released for. I guess we’ll hear more about it one of these years.
